“My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Chef Paul’s “Valentine’s Dinner” The concept is fine dining at home. Highly recommended.Excellent food prepared with imagination and care and to a particularly high standard. In my opinion the food beats any restaurant in the area, all without the hustle and bustle of the 14thAn exquisite pre cooked four course gourmet meal was packed neatly in little pans for finishing cooking, and serving. The instructions were precise and easy. We popped the included little pans in and out of our 450 degree oven for specific times, one item after another …allowing us to pace ourselves as we chose.High quality, imaginative and delicious dining at home!!“
“Gayle, the owner of What's Cookin's, has carved a place among the very finest food for every palate. She has the most hard working staff, who create so well together. They provide a lovely room in which to dine, and the notable artwork on the walls, and propped up on the refridgertors make it interesting and anusing. The workers are exceptionally polite and engaging, if you want to, but will give you your space for dining quietly. I love going there, and I am pretty sure that you will too.“
“My brother in law arranged for our family to gather here for lunch after gathering at Hammonsett in rememberance of the first anniversary of his wife, my sister's passing. We were not rushed in any way. The staff was very attentive, and my clam chowder was fantastic. We were all very satisfied with our lunches.“
“Wow. Delicious. Cute little diner off the side of the road, with the nicest people around. The breakfast sandwiches were fantastic. And the iced coffee has frozen coffee cubes! No watered down coffee for the drive. Definitely worth a visit!“
“This is like a sports bar but it was crowded but they were able to seat us. Nice atmosphere. Great service and great food. INhad the make your own burger and it was big and delish! My friend had the buffalo wings and she loved them. We had a gin and tonic and it was 10 dollars but it was big and delish! I definitely would recommend this place to stop and eat!“
“Overall, it was a great experience and atmosphere. The location was amazing as well. The service was great. It was a blue grass weekend, and they had a live blue grass band and a special menu. Tried their pork ribs and crawfish. Pork ribs we great, but unfortunately, crawfish was served raw. We also tried their fried chicken and poppy seed salmon. Both were delicious. Drinks were well made. Will definitely be willing to give them another try.“
“I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at The James Madison House, and I couldn't wait to leave a glowing review! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly made me feel welcome.I want to extend a special thank you to our wonderful waitress, Alyssa, who went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Her friendly demeanor and attentiveness truly made our visit memorable. Now, let's talk about the food! The parmesan truffle fries were an absolute delight - crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and oh-so-indulgent. Each bite was a burst of flavor that left me craving more. And let's not forget about the wide selection of tasty drinks! From handcrafted cocktails to craft beers, there was something to satisfy every palate. The atmosphere at the bar was hip and vibrant, creating an ambiance that you wouldn't expect to find in a quiet area like North Madison. It was the perfect blend of sophistication and fun, making it the ideal spot to unwind with friends or enjoy a romantic evening out.Overall, The James Madison House exceeded all expectations, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience. If you're looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a lively atmosphere, look no further than The James Madison House. Thank you for an amazing evening!“
“I stumbled upon this gem. I was in the area due to a loved ones Dr appointment and had time for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised as I drove up to the restaurant and saw ocean views. Upon entering the restaurant, a nice cozy vibe came over me. I enjoyed a fluthy omelet prepared to perfection stuffed with fresh produce. I sat in a very comfortable booth with high backs near a window. There was a slight chill that made me wish I sat closer to the fireplace. The servers were pleasant and worked well together. This was a very pleasant experience.“
“Absolute favorite restaurant. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is amazing. The drinks are amazing. The atmosphere is ridiculously lovely. Would definitely recommend!Vegetarian options: They happily accommodate dietary restrictions. I have brought vegetarian and vegan friends here who have had no problem finding really tasty things on the menu.Dietary restrictions: They are happy to accommodate any allergies. I brought my good friend here who is allergic to nuts and they were very accommodating and helpful.“
“Overall good experience.Appetizer was crispy duck wings which were delicious and perfectly cooked. For the mains I got the poke and my girlfriend, the veggie burger w/ truffle w/ fries. The poke included fresh tuna and the rice was cooked perfectly, however in my opinion the sauce was too tomatoey flavored and overpowered the rest of the dish. The veggie burger tasted good but would benefit from the patty being a little crispier.Had the warm chocolate chip cookie w/ ice cream for desert which was lovely.Overall good experience and would go back. Means of comments above is suggestions to enhance what the restaurant has to offer.“
“We had a nice meal here before the show. I had Salmon with Grits, meatballs, crab/crawfish cake, and cheesecake. They had a nice IPA (Capt Lawrence) as well. A friend liked the chicken creole and my wife had the beet/walnut salad with salmon and enjoyed it. We're not in this area often but when we are this should be a place to return to. Very nice.“
“Stopped by for lunch while travelling through the area and was a much better option than the chain options. They have a small building I almost missed as driving by - had to turn around to go back. I highly recommend the burger with spicy mayo and a side of potato salad. Some great options for those that like seafood too.“
“Ten stars if I could, what a phenomenal place. We eat all over and know good food. From the portions to the service I can not say enough good things. The scrod Florentine was amazing! This place is a must try and we will continue to go back. Thank you for a delicious dinner and great night.“
“I go here almost every Sunday and no matter what time it is the staff is always happy to serve you. They are so kind and always want to start a conversation even after two or three times go in they recognize you. and the food is absolutely to die for.“
“Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in Connecticut! The French onion soup was AMAZING—the combo of caramelized onions + crispy onions was ? plus the gruyère!The duck was melt in your mouth tender with an incredible pepper crust, seared to perfection. The crispy polenta cake was also done really well. The swiss chard + pancetta added a nice, zingy contrast. For dessert, I had the turtle cake which was fluffy & moist with caramel + candied pecans.Big kudos to the chef & kitchen staff! My server was also very kind & knowledgeable. The manager graciously sat me at a lovely table even though I was a solo diner.I left my phone at the hotel, otherwise I’d share pics!“
“Exploring small eateries closer to home is at the top of my to-do list in 2024, and starting with Pa's Place was a total win. I needed to burn off some anxiety while waiting for my husband's surgery to finish, and one of the nurses was kind enough to give me some ideas on where to go. Naturally, I immediately got lost, but it resulted in my stumbling into this gem, so no complaints here.Pa's is set right beside the water with easy access to parking. They have an outdoor pickup window, patio seating and live music in the warmer months. The inside is small, but solid. The furniture is beautiful and sturdy. No wobbly tables at Pa's! There are some long seating options, too, so it would be easy to bring the whole family. The menu has a lot of options, which I love. I settled on Pa's Cubano with sweet potato fries and maaaaannnnn did it deliver. Salty, tangy, a little bit sweet, and the cruch factor was on point! The perfect combo if you ask me. The fries? BOMB. 10/10 will go back again. I can't wait to bring my husband there once he heals up!Live in or around Guildford? Visiting friends? Just on a vacation from life? Go to Pa's Place for your next meal. You won't be disappointed!“
“Nestled across the street from a venerable shoreline favorite, the Turtle Cafe is another absolute gem. Chef Ricky and Mariah, who was at the counter, were extremely welcoming and make for great conversation. The menu is vast and all of the food was amazing. I had eggs Benny with a side of hash, I highly recommend this place.“
“My family and I had a great dinner at this restaurant that I believe was recently remodeled. Food and service were excellent and they made the place so nice inside- very cozy, warm and inviting. Two great bar areas inside as well. Looking forward to more dinners there!“
“Dined here with a party of 15. Private room upstairs was the perfect size. Wait staff was extremely accommodating and helpful in planning and executing a surprise for my father's 70th birthday. Only down side was that our waitresses seemed overwhelmed and forgot to bring out salads. Otherwise, it was a fantastic experience and great food!“
“Lovely atmosphere, warm, calm, and clean. I ordered the scallop pasta dish. The chefs prepared the scallops perfectly, light sear on the exterior and juicy, soft interior. Well done. I was not fond of the pasta, undercooked and tossed with an insipid sauce. Would return to try another dish.“
“Love, love the food and staff of this fabulous breakfast lunch restaurant!Great specials. The sausage and biscuits best in CT.The homemade muffins and breads out of this world! My favorite is the Cinnabon bread. Yum!Outdoor seating if you have a dog with you.Right on Main St, Deep River if you want to pop in one of the local stores after very nice unique gifts and clothing.“
“Absolutely delicious. Wow. I liked everything we ate. My buddy told me about this place and we were in Chester for work that morning.Had an omelet and egg and cheese and cookies and a scone and a muffin. They also have a gf coconut cookie which is yummy. We'll definitely stop here next time we're around.Keep up the awesome work.“
“Very comfortable laid back place. Usually locals that frequent the place. Staff is very friendly. Monday nights Joel is there and they have live music. His wife is one of the singers and she is amazing.Place definitely needs some updates but has that country feel to it!!“
“Local sports bar serving standard pub fair: really good wings, sandwiches, and dinner options. The bar area is separate from the dining area. Very family-friendly with a good kids' menu. Even when busy service is fast and food comes out of the kitchen pretty quickly. Very affordable: a family of 4 can eat dinner for about $100 including tip and a few drinks.Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu with several options. We were offered activities to keep the kids entertained like coloring and small games.“
“In business since 1850 and for good reason! Charming historic tavern with a small restaurant. The menu is surprisingly huge for a neighborhood pub and they have daily specials. Located in the heart of this enchanting village of Chester this no-frills eatery is a gem.“
“First time!!We were in Guilford for the day and we stopped by here to have a couple of drinks.Calming and clean atmosphere. The bar seats maybe 12/13, there are tables as well. There is also a bar-like seating area behind the bar, that seats maybe six people. The bartender, Heidi was great!!She is the bartender that you want to have for a laugh, to listen if you need to talk, she was staying pretty busy - as the bar was full.Overall she had a great presence and I will definitely stop by to see her again, when I Guilford ?I saw a couple of dishes served and they looked really appetizing. We ate before we got there.Next visit I would like to try a food item.I was with a friend and we both ordered the Lindoo And it was really good. A very well-made drink. We were there for a couple of hours and we finished our visit with Heidi's specialty, and Espresso Martini... All I can finish off with is yum yum yum ?The bathroom was super clean and I definitely appreciated that.I was also given a cool little rubber ducky because it was my birthday ❤️Thank you again Heidi for everything!!You rock!Parking: I'm really not sure about the parking. This business is on a street next to other businesses. And we walked from the train station, so we did not need parking.I did see street parking and there is a lot in the back.“
“We had a great time at Doc’s bar and Grille. Very friendly staff great double burger fresh cut fries and some good old boys playing music. Doesn’t get any better than this. If docs brings the right bands in We definitely will go back. Five stars coming from Rocky Hill.“
“Visited here over a year ago and cannot stop thinking about the best ever Lobster Roll..... planing a trip to the region and trying to figure out how to sneak in a two hour side trip!Update: Still the best. Traveled the northeast coast and tried several other places and decided to change departure plans so we could have it again. We bragged so much that a couple of friends from New Jersey made the drive to meet us.“
“I used to come here all the time and not really sure why I stopped. Finally came back and it's better than ever. Delicious food, great chopped salad and fried zucchini. Cozy place but never feels cramped. Make a reservation as it is small inside. Great service as well. Adding South Lane back into my rotation.“
“A friend chose this location for her birthday dinner. Nice, varied menu. Everything the 4 of us ordered was very good. My spaghetti d'angelo was a generous portion that was not only aesthetically pleasing, but tasty as well. If you are in the area, give it a try.“
“I recently stopped by this restaurant with my family on our way home from Mohegan Sun, CT, and I have to say, it was an absolute delight! This was Monday at noonish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly service. Our waitress, a young lady with long dark hair (unfortunately, I didn't catch her name), went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of excellent. She was incredibly attentive, catering to both my family and my sister's family with equal care and enthusiasm. Not only was the service outstanding, but the food was really good.To the owner and management team: if you're reading this, please pass along my heartfelt gratitude to the waitress and the entire food staff. I will definitely be returning on my next trip through the area.If you're looking for a great dining experience with exceptional service and food, look no further than this restaurant. You won't be disappointed!Thank you once again to the wonderful staff.“
“We love everything about this quaint welcoming tavern, especially when Carla makes the margaritas ;)The Ivoryton Tavern has charm, lots of history & the bathroom soap always smells wonderful!Highly recommended if you are in the area or attending a show across the street.“
“Food was delicious however, way too expensive imo.$2 per wing and no deal when you get a double order.$15 for 3 small arincini balls. Also, make sure to review the bill. They miss charged us and had to fix it when I brought it to their attention.“
“Hadn’t been in the area for quite a while so decided to try sn old favorite. What a wonderful experience. First the place is clean and warm ( the fireplace was going but not what I meant) and was warmly greeted. Sarah, our waitress, was attentive and friendly. A page of specials and the regular menu was presented. We enjoyed a bit of home baked bread just as I remembered. A white and a molasses bread, both delicious. No appetizers as we are not giant eaters. I had the swordfish which was grilled to perfection with done grilled zucchini and tomatoes with a bitter green salad with a lite vinaigrette to balance the other flavors. My wife had a delicious grilled salmon cooked as she likes it with a mashed vegetable side and vegetables. Both plates were licked clean. Although dessert is not something we eat always, we decided to share the carrot cake with a dollop of cream cheese frosting. It was baked in a ramekin which was special. Even the coffee was fresh brewed for me. The attention to detail is appreciated. This locally owned restaurant is a real gem and we wish we lived closer. We will definitely be back next spring.“
