“We have been going to the Frontier since we moved to Iowa in 2015. It is a small town cafe with a home comfort feel. When we need some really good food that reminds us of being kids, we drive over an hour to eat here. There is plenty of seating and plenty of people eating, and the staff is always friendly. I love the signs in the bathroom and it shows that they enjoy a fun atmosphere. The chili is some of the best you will ever have and if it’s cold outside, getting the chili and a cheeseburger just can’t be beat! My wife loves their Special Club and soup of the day. Homemade pies and deserts always look good but we are usually too full to get any.Parking: It’s street parking and sometimes we have had to park a block away which isn’t an issue for us but could be for older folks.“
“Came for breakfast in-between track events. I had a western omelet with mushrooms, and my party had hickey cakes with chocolate chips and a hillbilly skillet. Service was quick and attentive, and the food was enjoyable. It's a really great throwback family style diner.“
“Good food. Good service. Fun diner on a Saturday for lunch. We stopped there on our way through Grinnell. Guys had the loose meat sandwiches & said though tasty, not as good as Maid Rites. My tenderloin was good. Friend had small order of nachos & said they were fine. The loose meat is just like the sandwich meat. You add your own salsa. Fries were hot & crispy & onion rings were good as well. Good place for a quick lunch--reasonable prices.“
“When traveling it is rare for us to stop for a leisurely meal, but in Grinnell we found ourselves with time and wanted a place where we could sit outdoors with our dog and enjoy a bite to eat and an adult beverage. This place delivered on all fronts. After too many heavy midwestern meals, the Mahi salad on romaine with mango and avocado was refreshing on this warm evening. My husband enjoyed the bbq pizza with a couple IPAs. I treated myself to a Manhattan that was on point. Service was brisk and there was no pressure to free our table. It was family friendly. They brought our pup a bowl of water. The restaurant and town is a couple miles off the interstate, but we will make a point to stop again. Lastly, we found ourselves close to the college campus which was a nice area to spend some time walking around after the meal.“
“We love this restaurant for a date night or special evening. The chef specials are always excellent & the waygu beef is over the top excellent. Service is always prompt and attentive. Leave room for dessert, because they have great creme brulee and several other fine choices. The bar will not dissapoint either. We gladly drive 45 min to get here to enjoy an evening at the Prairie Canary.“
