Double Clutch Brewing Company Brewery • $$
2121 Ashland Ave, Evanston

“Our group visited to watch NCAA tournament basketball. Plenty of TVs to casually watch games. First time at Double Clutch. I drank the rauchbeir lager they had on tap. Very unique and great balance. I also tried the house pilsner, equally good. Double Clutch can brew. But what about food? DC gets the food right too! I got pesto chicken sandwich w/sidewinders. Very tasty taken on the chicken sandwich. We all liked our food. The service was on point as well. Comfortable table and bar seating throughout. If you like cars, they have a bunch of unique cars on display. A great find, looking forward to our next visit.“

Temperance Beer Co. Brewery • $$
2000 Dempster St, Evanston

“Another "not my first time here, but first Google Review" for this place! Been going here ever since their first day but not as frequently as imagined. They definitely have some unique beers as well as fun events throughout the years, one notably was an outdoor hip hop concert with Twista, Big Boi and Sleepy Brown, which was 1yr post-COVID. Recently went for their whopping 10 year anniversary (Fri 12/15/23) and the beers were absolutely and generously flowing. They opened up the back for a nice 80s cover band concert and also had pop up food and wine vendors. Videos here of that night. Whether for an event or not, this brewery is worth coming back to again and again.“

The staff (chef/bartender) were extremely knowledgeable, the courses were timed really well, and everyone was super friendly. I had actually never been to Cultivate before; because I’m doing sober January, this event (that I saw advertised on Facebook) was screaming my name. Im really glad I went. I would encourage Cultivate to continue with more events of this nature.“

“If you love hazy ipa's this place is a must. I've been drinking their beers for a handful of years and I couldn't wait for them to open a taproom. If you know anything about Hop Butcher, you know they're constantly making new beers. It's nicely designed, prices are reasonable and they have a store to purchase their beers on the other side. Definitely worth a visit. Great service with a pretty laidback vibe.“

“I really really loved this brewery. It's the perfect spot for a bunch of nice drinks with friends or coworkers. They have an amazing selection of beers - My favourites were the Pickle Beer and the Azadi! While the pickle beer sounds funny, trust me it is very interesting. I also had a lovely stout. The general vibe is like most breweries, easy to chat with friends, nice music and good seating. Definitely going back here again.“

Maplewood Brewery & Distillery Brewery •
2717 N Maplewood Ave, Chicago - 7.89 miles

“Cozy brewery & distillery nestled in a neighborhood and against the train tracks & highway.Great selection of unique beers and cocktails made from in house spirits. Some of the beers you can find in stores, others are unique to the location. They do still do scheduled beer releases you may only be able to get on location. You can bring in food, but there's also a selection of pizza that is pretty good.Only gripe would be that it was a bit difficult to find, if you hug the road that goes against the tracks its very narrow and basically an alley. Part of the charm though, makes the place feel like it's hidden.“

Alarmist Brewing & Taproom Brewery • $$
4055 W Peterson Ave Suite Rear, Chicago - 4.43 miles

“I have enjoyed beer from Alarmist Brewing in the past, but on a recent sunny Saturday afternoon my love and I decided to finally visit Alarmist Brewing and Taproom. It is situated in Sauganash on Peterson, just about two blocks west of the Pulaski bus terminus. There is a free parking lot in case you are driving here. They have an outdoor patio, but we gladly grabbed seats in the taproom that faced out the "front window" for great people and dog watching. The menu lists two different flights, and we went with the Hoppy Flight with six 4-ounce pours. They don't serve food, but the staff was fine with us bringing in some sandwiches and chips to eat.“

Anti-Hero

“TL;DR - If you’re even slightly thinking about coming here, just do it. Revolution has the best beer in the city, fantastic food, and incredible staff.A lot of breweries in Chicago excel in making their one or two specialty styles of beer, and that’s it. Revolution, on the other hand, is able to guarantee high quality and incredibly drinkable beer across just about every style you can think of. I normally hate those dark, boozy, 15+% ABV beers, yet I drink every single one that Rev puts out and I love it. Their “Hero”-series IPAs will make even the biggest IPA hater second guess their hatred. And their sours (usually released during the summer) are so good, you will question how something this good can be alcoholic. Revolution doesn’t put out a beer that isn’t incredible, so you can pick a beer at random and be sure to enjoy it.Recently, the Brewpub renovated their space and, with it, re-did a lot of their menu. The space is cozy, yet upscale (the seating is significantly comfier than it once was with new plush seating). The new food is also really high quality - much higher than you would expect from a brewery. A lot of detail is put into plating and presentation (Mushrooms & Tofu, for example, looks like a piece of art), and still it tastes somehow even better than it looks. In addition to more upscale menu items, you’re also able to get a lot of that “typical” bar food here that fully delivers (pretzel, cheese curds, fries, etc.). The only gripe I could possibly have here is on the pricing of some of the food. This does not apply to the whole menu though, just some items that feel like they are priced higher than they should be (e.g. Lion’s Mane mushrooms, a starter, costs the same as the Mushrooms & Tofu, an entree, despite being significantly less food and sharing some similar ingredients. Why?!). If you can view this less as a bar and more like a nicer restaurant (which, with the renovation completed, is easy to do), then the pricing is a lot more palatable. The ambiance, food, and drinks are all great, but it’s the staff at Revolution that keeps me coming back though. They’re all so friendly, personable, passionate, and professional - they are the kind of people that make your night out feel special. My fiancé and I have celebrated birthdays, engagements, job offers, anniversaries, and so much more here because of how wonderful the staff are in celebrating and creating such a fun environment to be in. They make Revolution a place we want to go whenever we want to have a good time out. There are just too many people to name (Magnolia, Drake, Erwin, Makenna, Amy, Matt, just to name a few) - but rest assured that we love just about everyone who has served us here. So much so, that my fiancé and I are getting married here later this year! This is the easiest 5 stars I have ever handed out. I have so little to say about places that are “meh”, so the length of this review should show how much I love it here. I’ve come here at least every week for the last 2+ years, and I don’t have any intention of slowing down anytime soon. If you’re still reading this, please stop reading and start drinking, and do it at the Brewpub! You won’t regret it!Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options here. Standouts include the veggie burger (vegan by default), Mushrooms & Tofu (vegan), and a delicious pretzel with beer cheese (vegetarian and oh so good).“

Life on Marz Community Club Brewery • $$
1950 N Western Ave, Chicago - 8.83 miles

“Found a spot that's perfect for remote work! I love the laid back, artsy, and friendly cafe vibe of this nano-brewery! I came by on a weekday afternoon with my laptop and ordered a matcha latte. I was a little worried I had missed coffee service because it was just past 2pm, but the barista was friendly and accommodating and made the perfect cup of matcha! The space itself is perfect for working because it has ample table space, comfortable chairs, and several outlets to plug in your laptop. My favorite part is that it stays open late until 11pm (as opposed to most cafes that close around 3pm-6pm). This means I don't have to rush to finish my work, and I can switch from coffee to beer without having to move locations! Between 4-7pm they have a happy hour deal for draft beers. Once I closed my laptop around 5pm, my friend came to join me and we ordered some beers, and grabbed a card game from their collection. They have a variety of board and card games that you can borrow while you drink and hang out. We played Sushi Go, which was straight forward and easy to learn and easy to chat while playing. I drank the Mystic pale ale, which I really enjoyed! I love that they have a variety of snacks available! And a staff member mentioned that we could bring in food if we would like. There's a lot of good food options in the area. What a relaxed spot to hang out, do some work, and drink some delicious craft beer! Will be back soon :)“

The pizza was ok, I really liked the crust, just not enough sauce, essentially the only pieces that had any were the 2 middle ones. The music selection was really good and they had a good selection of beer or hard seltzer. The establishment was clean over all as well.“

“We came here for a sushi making class that accidentally was set up for a pasta making class. (That had nothing to do with the bar, plus we enjoyed it anyways) but we tried a few different kinds if their christmas flavors. Oh. My. Gosh! The war on xmas and I dont remember the exact name of the cult one but it was chocolatey and spicy. Not to mention the war on xmas tasted like butter beer from harry potter world! They were all amazing! The bar and restroom were also very clean.I also like how different the decor is. Reminded me of Salem. We bought 6 cases before making the drive home. The staff was so welcoming and helpful by the way even found us cases rhey thought they didnt have! We will definitely make the 1.5 hr drive to come back here. Looking forward to trying the new flavors next week! Thanks again for making our trip memorable!“

“Great spot if you’re looking for a brewery so purist in its ways, it might brew by the German standards of brewing. No gimmicks, just fresh, hoppy beer that still feels creative. I don’t know much about beer or brewing but I dig the way they play around with barrels. My old man used to get beers from the monks when he went to Germany on business; this is the quality beer I’d like to imagine he’d get.Too preoccupied with pinball to nab pics of the space or beer! I had the Irish Nitro and she had the cherry sour. The food truck outside provided us a breakfast burrito which we shared. Inside was lovely, outside was lovely, pooch dog friendly, I imagine this place is slammed in 'good weather' months. Pints were a $1 off. Come, be with your people.“

“okay, so we’ve been to Ørkenoy several times before and we always enjoy it. the food has a unique twist (Nordic modern) relative to Chicago’s culinary scene but it’s very accessible, a good value, and the drinks are solid. it’s usually just us, but this day we were a party of 8, including 4 children, which is kinda daunting for most restaurants. our server was totally great, friendly, and informative, and really welcomed the 5 folks who’d never dined at Ørkenoy before. the burgers were delicious, the kids loved the meatballs with lingonberry sauce, the pickled eggs were a hit, plus we adults all enjoyed our cocktails. one cool thing about the space is there’s a claw machine and freethrow hoops at the other end of the Kimball Arts Center, so the kids (with adult supervision) were able to divert their energies while the kitchen prepared everyone’s meals. i am uniformly amazed when i talk to chicagoans who have yet to dine at Ørkenoy, as it’s obviously very much worth checking out!Parking: Plenty of free parking options.Kid-friendliness: We brought 4 kids to lunch and nobody batted an eyelash. The kids were down to try everything and generally had a great time! Plenty to explore!“

I believe I saw three bartenders working and I'm having a hard time doing the math on this one. I've worked enough bars back in the day and can't recall seeing a single-file line.
