I'm not Romanian, and I have no connection to Eastern European food whatsoever. Transylvania Kitchen knocked it out of the park. I learned of Ciorba de Burta (tripe soup) doing travel research and I couldn't find any to try in Chicago. Tangy and hearty, this is worth the drive. The staff was friendly, even though they seemed to not necessarily know what baked goods they had in stock. Regardless I have full confidence that anything available is delicious and made with care.
Ill preface this by saying I am very home sick. This place is everything I wanted and more. They have amazing pastries and you can also get some traditional cooked food. Most food is sold in larger portions so it's great if you are ordering for the holidays. The cozonac is delicious and they are so beautiful. Highly recommend - I'm a picky eater and I pay attention to hygiene in a food store - the pastries were super-fresh and delicious
