“We arrived and couldn't get either door open. We ended up having to wait until another patron came out in order to get in. Word of advice, pull hard. Once inside, we ordered the frickles, but, as another patron said, there were enough there for three or more people. They should offer a half order so as not to waste so many. We also ordered the red bean gumbo, which was excellent, and the grilled shrimp platter. The shrimp were in a blackened seasoning and were quite good. I know another patron said the shrimp could be locally sourced and therefore fresher, but I thought they tasted just fine with the seasoning. The hush puppies that came with my platter were awesome! I am not a hush puppy afficianado, by any means, but I am picky about them and I thought they were one of the best things on my plate and wish I had had a couple more. Our waitress was polite and checked on us often. She kept our drinks filled which is one of my husband's biggest basis for leaving a tip. Overall, I thought it was good for our first Louisiana Creole restaurant and would eat there again.“

Buddy B's Restaurant American • $
2788 River Road East, Garyville - 6.54 miles

“Food is amazing, hot, fresh and timely. The service was great and very friendly. The building it self is almost hidden in visuals that it's a restaurant. It's interior is old and outdated but it gives cafeteria vibes. But the food makes you forget all those things.Parking: Gravel section to left of the building.“

Spuddy's Cajun Foods Cajun • $$

“We visited Spuddy for his Cajun Cooking experience (personal cooking lesson). We made Andouille Sausage from scratch. We cooked Jambalaya, Gumbo and Smothered Okra. The food was amazing and the experience with Spuddy was unforgettable. This is a great thing do do when you visit the plantations.“

Buddy B's Cajun Cabin Cajun • $$
2788 LA-44, Reserve

“Buddy B's Restaurant has been a popular go-to destination for breakfast and lunch since 1998, when Gary and Fege Boe opened what had been a gas station and convenience store in the 1950s into their pride and joy. Located at 2788 Highway 44 in Garyville, Louisiana, along the Mississippi River Road, the business was purchased in 2021 by Buddy Boe and chef Natasha Clement to continue the family legacy. Looking for good Cajun cooking, andouille sausage, gumbo and fried shrimp? Take it from an old-time Yankee, once you are introduced to Cajun cooking, you're hooked. Buddy B's is open from 7 to 1 Monday through Friday. For breakfast, I recommend the breakfast platter with two scrambled eggs, smoked sausage link, hash browns, toast and jam. And a breakfast sandwich with egg, sausage patty and cheese. For lunch, I had a bowl of chicken and andouille gumbo with potato salad and bread and a platter of fried jumbo shrimp with coleslaw and a baked potato loaded with butter, cheese, bacon and sour cream. My wife opted for a fried chicken tender dinner with coleslaw and fries. By the way, I finally figured out why so many restaurants close early. Everybody goes fishing in the afternoon.“

“Good food, pleasant setting, good prices, but nothing to write home about. The day I went they had run out of hot sausage and other menu items so I settled for a roast beef poboy. It was okay. I'll try it again next time I'm in the neighborhood and see if my opinion changes.“

Crevasse Restaurant Cajun/Creole • $$
6554 LA-44, Convent

“We visited Crevasse on April 14, 2023 for lunch. They have been on our ‘have to try’ list for quite some time, but they recently changed ownership. The facility itself is wonderfully rustic and housed in a very old building that has a long history of varied uses over the decades. The beautiful drive along River Road is the perfect pre-meal gift offered to all who make the wise choice to visit. We arrived early (as we often do) so did not encounter any ‘lunch rush’. The menu is not extensive, but there are adequate choices to please most anyone, including a “kids’ menu”. We were immediately greeted and seated. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. They do a daily lunch special, and there were two options today. Each special includes a generous house salad as well as a dessert (with ice cream as an option) My wife and I each ordered one of the menu specials, with water as our beverage of choice. My wife ordered the crab cake and fried shrimp (3). The specials were served with fries. The crab cake and the shrimp were done very well with nice seasoning and full flavor. The crab patty had a good balance of crab meat and “stuffing”, and was delicious. I ordered the fish and shrimp plate. I was served two nice-sized pieces of fried fish as well as fried shrimp (3). The portions on the sides of fries are adequate, while not the over-sized type you often see when a restaurant is trying to ‘fill the plate’ and falls victim to the quantity over quality path. The fries were obviously hand cut, very freshly fried and delicious. My wife order the vanilla ice cream as her dessert. I passed on the peach cobbler, since I was more than satisfied with my meal and didn’t need the calories. Overall, we had a very positive experience and look forward to visiting again and inviting family and friends to join us.“

“This was an excellent stop after our tour. My husband and I shared the Cajun medley after sharing swamp fries. Both were very good. We also had the mint juleps. Hard to beat a KY mint julep. The weather was perfect so we were able to sit outside. Great stop!“

“My husband and I stopped on Wednesday early evening. We split the meat lovers pizza and house salad, which were delicious. We had the bread pudding to-go (wish we had gotten a double order). It is a local place with delicious food and great service. It was our first time eating there since they reopened (Hurricane Ida). It will definitely be a regular dinner spot.“

Oak Alley Plantation Cajun/Creole • $$$
3645 LA-18, Vacherie

“Would we recommend? Absolutely!A historic, large, & luxurious plantation full of dark history - history nonetheless. The lives impacted by this operation is truly saddening to contemplate! Eerily, as we walked onto the property, we felt a profound awareness of what tragedy transpired on the grounds! We toured the mansion/house, and as we walked among the homes of the slaves and the mighty oak trees on the ally, we pondered, "If these trees or walls could talk"!“
