“We had lunch here today and everything was SO GOOD! We arrived about 10 minutes before opening time, and it was raining. The staff were considerate enough to open early for us; we truly appreciated that act of kindness. The vegetable dishes were fresh and cooked with the perfect touch; the clay pot rice was so flavorful and a great counterpoint to the other dishes. Definitely a gem!!!Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian dishes, including one we had that was super flavorful! Chinese kale with garlic“

“At only 7 months young, this was a delicious treat. The service was very attentive and food fresh. So fresh and delicious that we forgot to take a pictures of all the dishes. The salt and pepper squid was perfect and not spicy at all, peanut and pork dumplings delicious, and sizzling steak flavorful. We would be back if we lived closer.“

“Been here several times, the food is consistent and never disappointing. At times waiters have to be called over again and again, but apart from that this is a very good place to have dim sum at all hours. Pretty cool to see how at lunch time the staff sits down and prepares an off menu meal to share with each other.“

China Pearl Restaurant Chinese • $$

“Just came here yesterday so here's the COVID break-down: - When you walk in, you'll immediately see 4 tables set somewhat apart, but still a bit too close in my opinion. - The right side of the restaurant has an entrance that opens up to an area that is much larger and definitely worth boasting about. Not only were the tables set apart from each other, they had these very impressive tall and transparent separators set up between every table. - As you can expect, there are no carts. You scan a QR code for the menu (or just go to their website for the menu). - All of the staff were wearing a mask. For drinks they only offered three options: Bottled water, hot jasmine tea, or home-made soymilk. The home-made soymilk was delicious. They asked me how much sugar I wanted in it. I usually don't like mine super sweet so that was nice of them to ask. The 5 things my friend and I ordered are listed below from most favorite to least favorite: - #27 Steamed B.B.Q Pork Bun 蒸伹燒包 - The filling had a really authentic cha shao flavor! They also didn't cheap out on the amount of the filling. - #18 Steamed Tofu Roll w/ Minced Pork 蠔皇鮮竹卷 - I really liked the texture of the tofu roll and the filling was full of flavor. - #36 Rice Noodle w/ Chicken & Shiitake Mushrooms 雞絲腸粉 - I didn't think the flavor of the the chicken and shiitake mushrooms was very prominent, but honestly I love rice noodle rolls so I'd definitely get this again (maybe just with shrimp instead). - #24 Steamed Spareribs w/ Black Bean Sauce 䋬汁蒸排骨 - This was a bit of a miss in my opinion. The pork just wasn't as tender as they should have been. - #25 Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf 迷你珍珠雞 - This is a hard pass for the future. In my opinion, sticky rice should taste simple, yet fragrant. Instead, there was a foul flavor with every bite. Not sure what it was. Could even just be my preference in taste doesn't match with the flavor. Meh, who knows. It's really a pity because this was the item I looked forward to the most. It took awhile for us to get our order taken and it took awhile for us to get our check. Regardless, the server was really nice. I could tell she was really busy and the place seemed severely understaffed. However, once we ordered, the food came out immediately - so that's a plus. You can make me wait on many things, but don't make me wait on food, hah!“

“I have been coming to Hei La Moon for weekend dim sum carts for over 12 years. (See the picture at the very end from 2013). The food quality ranges from very good to excellent, with the one exception being the pork buns, which I would rate as simply “good”. The shine on them is very nice, but the pork filling is not as generous as some other places. The dumplings are always on the medium- large size, compared to some restaurants, so for the price point, I think we are getting a good deal. In fact, I have seen some of the reviews compare the pricing and say it’s high, but based on other dim sum restaurants we've been to, the dumplings here are larger and, thus, priced correctly for their size.Service was really spotty. Never received anyone coming to our table to ask if we wanted anything. I probably would have ordered Bubble tea. We had to flag somebody down for water, and they never came, so we had to flag somebody else down. But we loved the fact that hot tea was on the table when we arrived. (The spotty service is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5).The carts came by with good frequency. At some places, they all come at once at the beginning, or you find yourself waiting for carts near the end of a meal, but these came with a nice frequency.I tried chicken feet here for the first time, and they were delicious! On my list to try for years! Did I use my fingers? Yes. Was it probably rude? Yes. But I was really trying to navigate eating them for the first time. Next time I will tackle them with chopsticks! The decor has changed over the years, and I love the decor now. The black and white floor is beautiful, and it seems bright and airy and cheerful. We are usually just a party of two or four, but it’s wonderful to know that they accommodate larger parties. We see lots of larger parties at the bigger tables enjoying themselves. We will come back each time we are in Boston. It is always a priority to come on the weekends for rolling carts.Parking: Don’t try to park in Chinatown! Take the orange line to the Chinatown stop and walk a couple of blocks.“

“I have been coming here since the early 2000s, and my visit yesterday did not disappoint. We went for dimsum around 11am on Saturday and were seated right away. My friends got a kick out of the preservation of the theatre in the dining room, which has elaborate and ornate decorations on the wall. A funny and endearing mismatch to the place being on the dingy side overall.I only speak English and most of the staff doesn't, but we were able to easily order our dimsum usuals by pointing to the carts roving around. (To me, dimsum must have carts to be a true experience!) My personal usuals include chau siu bao (pork steam buns), hakow (steamed shrimp dumplings), shao mai (steamed pork dumplings), sticky rice in a leaf, and hong kong egg custards.A lady came up toward the end to ask us if we wanted anything else. My friend showed her a pic of an egg custard steamed bun, and a few minutes later, she was enjoying one to her delight. When I ran out of water, there was promptly a water pitcher added to our table. Same with the tea refills, very prompt. When we went to pay, they brought to go containers without us having to ask.I was a little surprised and pleased to see how many non Chinese guests they had. Maybe 20-30%. Years ago, I recall few and far between being non-Chinese.If you're accustomed to Chinatown dimsum, I believe you will enjoy this place as I have for decades now. If not, this is still a great first time dimsum place as long as you come with an open mind and an empty tummy!“

“first time here today, ordered online for takeout and decided on their lava egg yolk french toast with sauce on the side, spam bolo bao, curry fish balls, and house made soy milk cold. everything was so delicious! the lava egg yolk french toast was sweet, crunchy, and dry (they forgot to add in my sauce on the side) so i didn’t really get to enjoy the whole thing as is. i would get it again because it was tasty! the spam bolo has to be my favorite, perfect balance of sweet and salty. it’s light too, i could eat two myself ? curry fish balls were also good but not worth $5 for 4 balls, wouldn’t get it again because of the high price and low quantity. house soy milk is sooo good! goes great with the food. look forward to trying out the rest of their menu!“
