“I came here for dinner during DC Restaurant Week. I was really looking forward to trying this place out because I’m a huge fan of their sister restaurant, Daikaya. We made reservations, but were kept waiting after we arrived. To the manager’s credit, he made us comfortable while we waited with a drink and apologized for the inconvenience, which we appreciated. We were seated upstairs next to a large diorama of…well, I’m still not quite sure what it was lol. The decor in the restaurant seems disjointed and not at all cohesive. I thought it was odd.We started with the arugula salad which was fine. I also had the Brussels sprouts which were very good. I had a slice of the Tonari pizza and my friend had a slice of the Mentaiko & Corn pizza. Both were super delicious! The corn pizza has a very unique flavor that’s hard to describe, but it works. We also both ordered the Mentaiko pasta which was equally delicious. For drinks, I had the Daidai, which has zero alcohol and was good; it’s pretty fruity but not overly sweet. They were offering dessert when we were there, and we both had an espresso affogato. All in all, I thought the restaurant was great. They had recently opened, so I could tell they were still working out some kinks, but I think it’s a great addition to the food scene in downtown. The prices are also reasonable. I would return!“
“Believe the hype, this place is outstanding. Service was impeccable and the omakasi was delicious. Yes, this place is expensive and yes it's worth it. They have a fantastic wine list and very knowledgeable staff. Get your reservation in now as it is very popular and it is fairly small.“
“Amazing! The sushi tasting menu was exceptional and filling! Delicious and whimsical cocktails. Bar in the back, very hip and chic workout being pretentious. Wagyu beef skewers from the bar was one of the best things I’ve ever had. All the skewers were amazing and the fried chicken and other bar snacks are classic bar foods, but way elevated- can not wait for the rest of the space to open!“
“Shōtō is a very trendy Japanese restaurant, great for special occasions. The sushi is pretty good, not phenomenal for the price (8/10). Their tofu avocado salad was great! Refreshing and light (9/10). The beef skewers were disappointing. Super oily and fatty, not pleasant to eat (4/10). The tempura was perfectly battered and fried! (9/10)The highlight of our meal was the dessert and the black cod. THIS is the entrée you should get when coming here. Just melts in your mouth! (11/10) The panna cotta and the cheesecake were both amazing! (11/10)Overall, a nice experience. Not everything on the menu is great. The vibe was super nice though!“
“In a spot where the sushi's divine,Far from Japan, but tastes like its own shrine. The staff, with smiles, swiftly glide,Explaining each dish with knowledgeable pride.A saki selection that brilliantly does shine.Beyond seas, this place holds its fame,With flavors no connoisseur could blame. Here, fish tales are more than mere notions,Served with a flair that stirs deep emotions.A top-tier feast, in every aspect, it came.“
“This review is very late. OMG AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! My partner and I came in to celebrate our job promotions, and it was the best service! We were late for out time but everyone was understanding, we were swiftly seated upstairs. Everyone had a great attitude, but I want to shine light on the star; our server Lark. She made our night more memorable than I could have imagined or hoped for. She did more and then some for us and it will forever be remembered. If she gets to read this I want you to know personally, you are an amazing soul and may you keep shining so God can shine on you.“
“An awesome place for dinner! Drinks were delicious as was the sushi. We got the japanese sangria- very floral and tasty. A surprise winner was the fried rice- so simple but so flavorful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the portion size on the shishito peppers was very small!“
“Beautiful decor and views of the river! Kevin, the GM, should be acknowledged for his friendliness and ability to connect with guests. Shout out our waitress who navigated our request for a non-menu item successfully. We will certainly be back.“
“Had a Great time celebrating a friend’s birthday! Food is amazing, sushi is fresh! Good atmosphere! Owners are Super cool and really knows how to make their guests feel special. Kudos to the entire staff for the Great service. Highly recommend!“
“Nondescript restaurant in old town that serves excellent Japanese food. Small and intimate, the staff were conversational and friendly. I had the prie fixe with sashimi, lamb chop, sea bass and dessert. Price is reasonable for quality of food. Will return if in town.“
“Akeno is my new favorite sushi spot! Not only is the food amazing, but the people that own and run it are the kindest, most appreciative people I have ever met! We get great service, the ambiance is perfect and we have fun with the staff. If the truffle salmon is on the specials menu, do yourself a favor and ORDER IT! You can thank me later.“
“CAN I SAY THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST SUSHI I'VE HAD IN ALL OF DC!! The flavors in their Seaweed Cucumber Crab salad, and Rainbow and Unagi specialty rolls were music to my tastebuds, so much that we ordered a third one!! My dirty martini and my sister's plum wine added great spirit to our evening and our server was attentive and flowed with our jokes. They also followed great COVID protocol. You must pay them a visit TODAY!!“
“Very nice restaurant. It doesn’t have a lot of tables so the space is small and cozy. You can see how they prepare the food from your seat and the owners are very kind. Good value for money. We especially recommend their boxes. The sushi was also very tasty.“
“Today I was in this place, and my first impression when I saw the beef soup I ordered was that it was very good, abundant and light, we also ordered some wings with the sauces on the side, and the frying of the wings was on point, crispy and juicy inside, it has been a very good experience, pleasant music and very good service. We hope to return soon.“
“Went here during happy hour with the kids on a Sunday. Found the service to be friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Drinks were stiff and delicious (half price during daily happy hour 4-7). Food was delicious, broth for ramen was complex and hearty. Food came out quickly and was exactly as ordered. Kids loved the menu and vibe. We're sat right in front, great place for a family to chill.Kid-friendliness: We went around 6 pm and it was a good vibe for 12/7 yo.“
“I had the fried chicken fried rice and my friend had the drunken noodles. Both were generous portions and a good value. The food came out quickly and services were excellent the entire time, that glass of water was never left empty for long! I highly recommend this place!“
“I’ve been to many of the ramen places near or around Chinatown and this is where I keep returning. The portion sizes are bigger, cheaper, and most importantly - tastier. I love the old records on the wall and overall ambience. It’s never too loud in here despite being downtown.“
“Someone shared a review of how they didn't appreciate how the DJ said their song request was annoying. They forgot to mention how they were making the request with their phone and that is very annoying to every DJ. Also, it's called a "request" meaning the DJ can or cannot play if they choose. As far as I've experienced, every DJ at Death Punch has been on point and plays to the crowd and not the individual (there have been so many terrible song requests). This venue is fun and always vibin. To the other poster...go listen to Grammy winning Olivia Rodrigo in your car if you want. The rest of us will dance to whatever the DJs choose to play.“
“Good selection of sushi and other options, with small portions. The spicy octopus salad was super small, without heads-ups. Small and tight space. First come, first serve. Limited 1h eating per table. People took a lot of take out what it makes sense for the space.“
“Great food hall for a quick bite or to link with friends or family. A bar in center, with booths throughout dining area.Variety of Asian foods familiar and authentic cultural cuisine , great way to try something new in an open environment.“
“Having lived in Japan before, I’m very critical of Japanese restaurants. But this one was pretty good! Bulgogi was very good and the fish they used for my nigiri tasted fresh. I’d only recommend they use more rice in their sashimi - I don’t know if it was because we were the last order of the night, but there was almost no rice with my nigiri.“
“It's a small sushi restaurant on a busy street but there's a public parking garage a couple of feet away. The workers/owners? were nice and quick with service. Even offered recommendations. Not sure if they get a lot of dine-in customers because my friend and I were the only ones there around 6pm. At the end of our meal the server gave us a small plate of fruit, yum! I would definitely go back for a second round.“
“Had a fantastic meal at Kusshi Sushi in Silver Spring last week. We ordered maki and nigiri sushi as well as gyoza and shrimp. I lived in Japan for 8 years and was impressed by the size of the fish in the sushi and how fresh the fish was. Also the service was excellent. The only possible drawback is the atmosphere. It has a hip, young vibe and is a little loud, so it feels somewhat atypical for a classic sushi restaurant. That said, the sushi was so good - and reasonably priced for the size of the fish - that I will definitely be returning as soon as I can!“
“This restaurant has a great atmosphere with a hip ramen place vibe. I love their big Japanese mural in the back. The ramen was excellent and worth every cent, you will definitely leave with your belly full! It is super easy to get to from campus. The staff were friendly and helpful.“
“Absolutely some of the best ramen I ever had. Every element was flavorful. I also enjoyed the pork bun and the cold sesame noodles (the pickled ginger was such a nice touch!). This was my first time eating from her, but it definitely won’t be my last!“
“Really neat, cozy spot for homestyle Japanese food + interesting wine and a large sake menu. We enjoyed sitting at the bar upstairs, and particularly loved the special black cod with miso, the snap peas, and the fried rice. Everything was made with care and presented in an elegant yet approachable fashion. Looking forward to returning the next time I am in DC.Vegetarian options: There is a section of the menu devoted to vegetable dishes, as well as tofu, vegetable tempura, and vegetarian fried rice or noodles.“
“Donburi, you surprised me. The food was spectacular and filling. Worth every cent. I ordered the Donburi bowl, curry tonkatsu and a side of the shrimp tempura. The donburi bowl looked small but boy was I wrong, it is FILLING! The curry was one of, if not, the best tasting tonkatsu curries I’ve had in the US. The curry was light (in a good way) and lets the flavor of the crunchy tonkatsu through to your palate, so that it’s not just a fried piece of meat. The breading for all of the fried foods was very authentic to the Japanese way, panko breading. You could hear the crunch but it wasn’t chewy like you’d think. The only way I could replicate the texture is if I were to bite into a Cadbury Flake bar. Smooth and satisfying. I’m usually very critical when trying a new place out, but this place has blown my expectation out of the water. To the owners, keep doing what you’re doing. To newcomers, definitely give this place out. This will not be my last time.“
“First time eating here, it was a win. I ordered the spicy beef bento box and shrimp bento box takeout, and it was fresh, hot, great portions, with a side of yamm yamm sauce and rice and steamed cabbage.Gotta be the best deal in town. Place was clean and the employees nice. Will definitely be ordering from here again.“
“Camouflage! This daytime only, casual looking lunch spot hides great sushi.Decor is utilitarian and reminds me of Tokyo business office worker lunch spots.I've been five times and all the fish has been fresh and expertly prepared.Sushi snob makes going into the office less painful. If fish is not for you, my buddy consistently has the beef Pho and loves it. They have a few other bowls that look great.Let's fill this place up and keep it thriving! Next time, lunch omakase!“
“Sushi Hachi is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts. Their sushi is made with precision and attention to detail, and the omakase experience is truly exceptional. The intimate setting and attentive service add to the overall dining experience.“
“A true, small independent restaurant. No fancy decor, but very, very good food! Excellent sushi, outstanding ramen, at fair prices (we spent less than $40/person incl. tip).We went on a Sunday early evening and had no wait for our table, fast service, and did I mention the food? SO GOOD!!Tip: there are two parking spots to pull into right before you get to the restaurant on the right“
“We haven't been here since the pandemic, and it was a wonderful rediscovery of the place. We had the Triple Delight Sushi and the Shrimp and Veggie tempura;they were both very succulent and fresh. The servings were huge, for me at least.Service was excellent, and the service charge was already added to the bill, which is a nice change from having to do the math ?, though we did give additional tip as the service was really good.“
“This place is so cozy and delicious. We really enjoyed dinner here and ordered a variety of sushi. Everything tasted really fresh and the service was fast and welcoming! I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants a great vibe and a sushi dinner date.“
“I got the tonkatsu ramen. The broth was rich. The slices of pork were fresh, juicy, tender, slightly sweet, and abundant. There were at least 6 slices in that bowl. The assortment of vegetables and narutomaki added unique, delicious tastes and textures to the dish. Their food presentation is perfect. You'd have to see it to believe it. The ramen actually looks like it's straight out of those food commercials and restaurant food posters. All in all, it's a great place to eat.“
“This place is my go to lunch/sushi place. Such fresh fish and amazing flavors. I always go right when they open to get the freshest pick. I will gatekeep this place and what my order is at all costs but had to leave a review. The staff are so kind and will help you with anything you need. If they don’t have something I always ask if they have it and they make it to order for me!“
“This is a great little place. We were looking for a quick place to get sushi without spending a fortune. Ordered the fried cream cheese wontons (not fantastic but tasty), and two sushi burritos (raging bull and the crouching tiger). Both were excellent and filling. Definitely recommend this place. It is a small place in a strip mall setting.“
“This place really deserves 10 stars, the food was exceptional and the service was top notch! I have been to Michelin rated restaurants that cannot compete with this place. Me and my wife came here for a wedding anniversary dinner during our visit to the cherry blossom festival staying for an extended amount of time. The first server Maher and the second server Cassie both are super professional, went above and beyond, we never felt rushed. We never had a dull moment over dinner and we never felt pushed. Next time we are in DC we will be back here!“
“The place to go when you want to eat sushi! I usually eat salmon sushi, and I think it's reliable because it's fresh and the quality of the raw fish is good. The manager and staff are friendly, so I think I'll come here often ? It's a place worth visiting even if you don't like sushi because you can taste not only sushi but also a variety of Japanese food!++ I received a dessert as a service, and it was my first time trying it, but it was so delicious. This was a hidden dessert restaurant... .. It was a dessert called croissant pudding, and the combination of soft pudding and vanilla ice cream was a work of art. I think I would go back again and again just to have this.“
“We are from NYC. Had lunch with my family here and left my backpack in the restaurant. The guy in the front found my bag and hold my bag till I contacted him 2 hours later. People make good food and look out for community really touched my heart. Good people are always blessed?? thank you Sakura Express!“
“This review is for 2 sushi rolls; I'll update this later if I try some other items. Bento Express opened about a year ago, across the street from my neighborhood. Its fast food Japanese, which is new to me. I was late coming home last night and in a pinch for food so I finally gave this spot a try. I got two salmon rolls, the Salmon Lover and the Spicy Salmon Roll, which were $9.95 and $6.95 respectively. Compared to a normal restaurant the pricing is great, especially given that the fish and ingredients were all very fresh. Downside is that neither rolls had much flavor, which is kind of odd considering they were both drizzled with spicy mayo sauce. Usually I don't need soy sauce for a lot of my sushi but in this case I did. Food Quality: 5 stars Food Flavor: 2.5 stars Value: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambience: 4 stars Honestly, despite the lack of flavor in the rolls, the food seemed so fresh that I'd give it another try.“
“Everything was excellent. We shared the Korean beef and the Thai BBQ chicken and both were so good. We argued over which was better and settled on the Korean beef. They did chicken and rice for the kid. All the portions were generous and the service was very friendly and attentive. If we lived here, we'd definitely be back.Kid-friendliness: They were ready with lidded cups and extra napkins!“
“My family and I have been about three times now. Each time we have enjoyed our meals. We have always taken out. It has been a good quick meal that's not too expensive. Which. And be hard to do now-a-days! Service is always pretty fast. No complaints here.@_Unk_RP“
“I ordered two rolls to go and I can’t say much about the customer service provided but I took away 1 star because they didn’t provide chop sticks or any utensils with the order. The spicy tuna roll didn’t really standout to me and lacked flavorThe sushi rolls were pretty good. Sweet Potatoe roll with cream cheese is delicious! 1 dollar extra to add cream cheese, kinda ridiculous but it’s ok. The spicy tuna was ok! Just lacked flavor and it simply wasn’t all that good.“
“BYOB.Astonishingly good fish. Some of the best imaginable. The chef opened with cuts of fatty tuna that would be the star at a different restaurant. And the price extremely reasonable for what you get. 6 stars. That said, a little wall art would go a long way for ambience. For now, just focus on the fish.“
“I grew up in Seattle and recently had a craving for just some basic Americanized teriyaki. First I tried Go-Stir Fry Express in Wheaton mall... was a bit disappointed, but it scratched the itch. Then I tried Hibachi Express in Kensington - Much better, not bad at all. But I like this one even more. They ask if you want extra teriyaki on top at the end, and they have more vegetables and chile sauce available (If I were to guess, probably just your run of the mill Huy-Fong Chili Garlic Sauce, but it's a nice contrast on your veggies and rice to the sweet . There's a white sauce too, but I cannot hang with mayo and I am 99% sure it's probably based on mayo. Only problem is that if I am going to Bestway across the street now, I have to decide between this, Aarash Market, or Pupuseria Vanessa if I'm hungry.“
“EGG ROLLS! EGG ROLLS! EGG ROLLS! So this is one of the last restaurants in DC that actually makes their egg rolls by hand. Most of the other restaurants order them from a central kitchen and they're basically spring rolls instead of eggrolls. I've never done drugs but this place is basically my eggroll dealer. Just last night I picked up six egg rolls 10 minutes before they closed and four of them are left. The rest of the menu is fantastic and they don't really skimp or cut corners on anything. The interior is very modest but let's be honest you're probably just doing takeout anyway or ordering on Postmates/Ubereats. This place is a diamond in the rough and I will continue to be their faithful customer until my last day on this earth.“
“Quality Sushi that is better than many off airport restaurants. Service with attentiveness with an eye for the efficency needed at an airport. Atmosphere, comon this inside an airport. A key here I have been eating here for over 10 years and it has been consistent over that time.“
“If you go anywhere in DC. Go here. I’m not playing around, this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I ate the most beautiful fish with the most spectacular service and amazing beer and every single penny was worth it. ありがとうございますAlso, I never like Eel, I like Eel now.“
“The chicken and shrimp teriyaki dishes were both delicious (the small size is perfect for one meal, I even had some leftover). Our order was ready within 15 minutes to pickup. The lady at the front counter was attentive and kind! Even offered a free soda for orders over $30. Would highly recommend this place to anyone in the Fort Washington area!Vegetarian options: Tofu teriyaki is offered, along with salads and various vegetarian sushi rolls.Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access from parking lot. Sidewalk has wheelchair accessible ramp to access main entrance of restaurant.“
“I always love coming here , the food is excellent, especially for the price , the only thing that's keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that they don't have sriracha sauce anymore , that was my favorite sauce and the fact that they don't have it anymore makes me not wanna come here as often because there's other locations that do have sriracha“
