“Me and my husband came to the bar for a la carte dining, had an amazing time with a very personalized beverage pairing (s/o to Chris our bartender!) We'll DEFINITELY be back to do the entire tasting menu. Lovely atmosphere, not stuffy, great music, GOOD LIGHTING (hard to come by in DC) and overall stellar food. Come here for your next date night or special occasion dinner, you won't regret it!”

“Had dinner before the Oh He Dead concert on Saturday December 17, 2022. We arrived a little before our seating and immediately were greeted and taken to our spots. Ian was outstanding! He was attentive, descriptive and helped create a good experience. Dan, our bartender, was magnificent. He created delectable cocktails and we also chatted along the way (we had bar seats which I highly recommend). This was very reasonably priced, we left very filled and happy. I want to give the highest possible compliments to Ian and Dan. The entire experience was perfect, largely because of the great food, but they took the experience well beyond a 1 star evening!”

“The food was wonderful and the service was excellent. I went for an early Mother's Day dinner on a Saturday night and there were people at the bar having their own good time, but the space is set up well and it didn't impede on our dinner. Great for any vibe”

“I went with a couple of friends and we all loved the experience. For me, having moved to DC a year ago from another city with a very good food scene, Daru has been my most memorable meal since moving here. You could really tell they cared about our experience and making sure what we ordered worked together as a family style meal and pairing the right drinks with it. I haven’t been back yet but I am very eager to return.”

I had the ginger chicken soup dumpling and the crystal shrimp dumplings: delish! For main, I had the Maketto chicken. It was such a good balance of sweet and spicy.Had such a good experience thank you Stella!”

“Wife and I live in DC. We go 4 or 5 times per year. Best dinning experience in DC. Don’t even read the menu. Let Bonnie great server, just bring you food and wine pairings. Blow you away. We usually sit at the upstairs bar. Chefs table was great as well. The wine flight is worth every penny. Bring your Amex!”

“Visiting from Denver for a work conference and stumbled upon this gem on Google Maps. It’s located on top of a CVS so didn’t know what to expect. We were BLOWN AWAY with the Kobe dish on a leaf and the shrimp/scallops were just next level. We had to order a second Kobe beef!! The NC Bluefin Tuna special was awesome too!! So glad we took the risk and remember to never judge a book by it’s cover!! That’s for damn sure.”

“5 stars isn't enough!! From the moment we walked in until the end of our night we were satisfied. The decorations, food, and service was amazing! They even offered me a quiet place to pray :). Give this place a try-trust me (portions may seem small, but it was very filling- we ordered the bowl of fries, which came with a delicious sauce, CROQUETTES, fish burger, beef burger, and gnocchi pomodoro. It felt like we were in nyc enjoy :)”

“most restaurants have some dishes that are the star of the show and others that are more in the shadow. but every dish we tried at albi could steal the spotlight at another restaurant. just when i thought the food couldn't get any better, it did--my widened eyes reflected the gustatory delight of my tastebuds, i was at a loss for words by the end.• started off with mango marinated napa cabbage and olives. both were packed with flavor despite their small sizes. the olives were especially piquant, and together with the napa, covered a duality if flavor profiles.• kibbeh naya: my first time trying this style of a dish, and in such a playful way with the diy lettuce cups. although i think there were too many vegetables and a bit of a simpler dish would've been better to bring out the yellowfish more.• coal-fired mushroom hummus: when the pita came out, my mouth genuinely dropped at how soft and fresh and warm the pita was. the hummus was silky smooth and the black garlic mushrooms was a sultry umami that the rich yolk cut into splendidly. however, i wish there was some sort of incubator that could keep the pita warm.• little gem lettuces: not at all like i was expecting. another eye-widening moment. so many flavors and textures to unpack with this one, creating a complex almost taco-like biting experience.• prawns grilled over coals: my second favorite dish after the lamb. a must order mezze. the shrimp was juicy and large and packed with so much flavor. the garnish was appreciated but honestly not necessary considering the tangy spiciness of the actual meat.• Bbq’d lamb kebobs: genuinely life-changing. first of all, the presentation was incredible. not dainty like most fine dining, but rather wild and natural—like a fallen log in a forest clearing. the moment i bit into the succulent lamb and it melted in my mouth, i knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience. it was the moment i understood all the hype about Albi. (the actual kebobs i felt could benefit from a crunch factor.)• labne soft serve: i can never skimp on dessert and i don’t regret this one bit. probably the best soft serve i’ve had in the US in terms of texture and richness and level of sweetness. not at all icey and the salt contrasted through very well with the milky flavor.overall, while each individual dish were outstanding standalone, altogether they formed a cohesive meal that covered all the flavor profiles, textures, eating styles, and cooking techniques, reflecting the versatility and creativity of the menu and the talent of the chefs.”

“A consistently great spot in the neighborhood no matter what time of day. Excellent coffee drinks and pastry items (especially the Guava Pastry) in the morning, lunch options for a real meal, and cocktails and food for dinner. Food can be a little expensive depending on the dish, but there has never been a bad one! Cocktails are always creative and well balanced as well.”

The chocolate dessert is my go to”

“Not a DC local, but when I visited, I was with my group pretty late at night. This place was one of the few places in walking distance that was open, but I think we lucked out with it. We showed up, were seated pretty quickly, and had some time to look over the menu. There were plenty of options of all sorts, and we ended up eating on the more adventurous side, getting grasshopper tacos and beef tongue tacos. While definitely unusual, it tasted great. There were plenty of other strange choices, this clearly being a great place to try new things. The house made chips were also great, even without the salsa.”

“Everything at Menya is completely mind-blowing and it's the best ramen I've had outside of Japan. It's a little hard to visit here especially with their hours but every time I can make the trip over to DC I always make an effort to come here. Their food stays consistent and service is incredible. It's amazing to watch how in synch the entire team is and they have an open kitchen where you can watch the staff make the endless bowls of ramen! The karaage is a MUST-TRY it's so incredibly crispy on the outside but perfectly juicy on the inside. It's also paired with a yuzu dipping sauce and it brings the chicken to a whole other level, 10/10. My favorite ramen is the Spicy Tonkotsu because it includes a house made chili spice that really brings a nice kick to their traditional Tonkotsu broth. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu because each type of ramen is so incredible in its depth of flavor.”

“Okay, I'm not going to lie. This is a hole in the wall spot that I've been coming up for years. It's not a looker, nor can you sit in and eat. It's legit a carry out. I always get the chicken wings and mambo sauce! The chicken is crispy, and so are the wedges. That's if you get the chicken box. I get salt, pepper, and ketchup on the wedges and still dip in the mambo sauce. It's amazing. If you are not scary when it comes to certain neighborhoods, you should go try it. As far as the service they are polite and work fast. It is always a line when I go. Just a heads up... They are a cash only business, but if you have cash app they take that too.”
