I have very bad lungs and I was thrown into a coughing fit so bad both times I went to the bathroom that it made my chest and throat hurt and made it hard for me to enjoy my food. To add, the next day I was violently sick throwing up. I will never come bacj again.”

As amazing as the space was the entire service and food team. Our servers – Jenn on night one and Ella on night two – were so friendly, knowledgeable and everyone went above and beyond to ensure our experience at Echelon was something we would never forget (and we won’t!). We even got visits from the kitchen with Chef Joe VanWagner coming by to greet us, expediter and professional forager Marc Jacob Qualls-Sanchez coming by for a long session on his foraging expertise (amazing!), and even their new tiki bar (coming soon!) manager Max giving us the DL on that space and renovations. We felt like royalty! For a special treat above and beyond the food, service, and overall experience, the Echelon team passed around menus that night to have all the front and back of house staff autograph it for us! I am so excited to add this to the unforgettable memories of our trip to Ann Arbor. It’s absolutely no wonder that Echelon was nominated for a James Beard award. I've eaten there for my birthday celebration meal, and at other times, in the five or six years since. It's rare to find great food, great service, and at a great price in the post-Covid era. In my experience Everest is the best of these combined categories in the Ann Arbor to Dearborn corridor along I-94. No where else that I've eaten since moving back to the area in 2011 comes close.”

“I’m a regular here as it’s near my workplace and has generous portions of a variety of Asian foods. Depending on my mood and how hungry I am, I regularly order the salmon nigiri, the spicy crispy chicken, the beef chow fun or the dumpling soup, although I’ve tried most of the menu at this stage. The photo is of one of the current specials (taiwanese rice roll with pork, egg, pickles, youtiao and meat floss) which I found really filling and tasty, and not a bad price at $8! The staff are almost always friendly and helpful, and the older lady who seems to be the boss seems sweet. They will sometimes make suggestions for new menu items, one of the younger Asian female staff members had great recommendations for the pad Thai special and fried flounder, and the older Asian lady who I think is the boss will sometimes ask for feedback about new dishes on the menu. The prices have risen a little within the past year or two, but I find that the large portion sizes and tasty food justify it for me. There are also some good reasonably priced items if you’re looking for a smaller meal too, like the classic salmon rolls, the soups, and the crispy chicken starter.
If it wasn’t clear already, this is one of my favorite local spots!”

She put the items on the table and left without saying a single word to us. I usually expect them to say follow me or tell me who will be our server. She didn’t say a word. Seemed mad. Today I'm down in the westside of Ann Arbor and this new restaurant Ricewood BBQ, OH MY GOD!!! On the recommendation of the lady behind the counter I got the Brisket bowl with sesame cucumbers, pickled onions and the spice was medium. A "real", in my opinion BBQ place, you even smell the smoke from the wood smoker walking up. I went to the one on North Maple and by far the best lunch I've had all summer!!!”

We stood out of the way where someone helped me dry her pants & replaced her water. The staff cleaned the mess then moped/dried the floor within ~3 min. It was AMAZING. Thank you!!”

You have to wait to be seated, once we sat down we were given water right away which is a wonderful way to show good service early. I ordered the spicy pork, fried rice with chicken and hot sake. Before we got our meal, we were given all different types of sauces and appetizers. Like coleslaw, broiled and seasoned broccoli, some kind of spicy fish which I really enjoyed and a very spicy sauce that looked brownish and another sauce that was bright red & black and was also a bit spicy. After making conversation and enjoying the appetizers, 10 to 15 minutes, the spicy pork was brought out on this grilling plate, sizzling and looked very appetizing and tasty. “We visited Mani for the first time with our group of 6 friends. The restaurant is cute and the different levels and layout was nice. Very cool to see the open kitchen. The tables were very small and cramped. We were at a table for 6 but with 6 adults we barely had room to move our arms comfortably due to how short the table was and how close to the wall. We visited around 8 pm so it was very busy but even being that busy, our cocktails took an exceptionally long time to come out. We got the calamari and the focaccia to share. The calamari was good and the focaccia with the honey butter and chili oil was honestly the best bread any of us have ever had. The combination of the bread and the butter and honey and chili oil was unexpected but absolutely fantastic and delicious. I got the Cacio e Pepe which was very good. I tried my friend’s shrimp scampi pasta and it was fantastic. The pizza was also very good. I got the isalita margarita and the espresso cocktail which were both delicious. Our sever was good as well overall. The only other complaint is that for the 6 of us all of our meals came out separately. I have never been to a restaurant where they don’t hold the food until it’s all ready to come out. There was almost 10 minutes between the first person who got food and the last of us who did. Luckily the phenomenal food and drinks will bring us back but hoping next time the service is a little more organized and we can get a table for 6 in the middle and not crammed against the wall.”

“Hot Pot Chen will forever be one of my comfort restaurants and one of my favorite Chinese spots in Ann Arbor. My family has been going there since I was little, back when it was still Gourmet Garden, so every time I eat there it honestly feels like getting a taste of my childhood again.
Some of my staple favorites have stayed the exact same all these years because they’re just THAT good. The lamb in two styles is seriously one of the best dishes I’ve ever had at any Chinese restaurant anywhere. I genuinely don’t think I’ve had another place prepare it quite the same way. Absolute perfection every single time.
Their sesame beef is also unreal. Crispy, sweet, savory, rich, beefy — it almost tastes like savory candy in the best possible way. I think it’s genuinely one of the best Chinese entrées in Ann Arbor.
I’ll also forever ride and die for their garlic chicken because it feels like the perfect balanced comfort meal with tons of vegetables and the most fragrant garlicky sauce. And as a lifelong dumpling lover, their pan-fried dumplings and dumpling sauce are always mandatory. I love a dumpling with a slightly thicker wrapper that can really soak up all the delicious sauce, and theirs absolutely hit every time.
Another longtime family favorite is the mango beef, which sounds unexpected but somehow works so well.
I also just love the nostalgia of the restaurant itself — especially the big back room with the massive round tables and spinning lazy Susan trays that always made dinners feel special growing up.
Now that I live only a few minutes away, it’s become even more dangerous for me because I crave it constantly. Forever one of my go-to spots.”

The wait was around 10-15 minutes, not too long, but I did notice there were a lot of booths available. Maybe they were just cleaning them up, who knows. Once we sat, our waiter was so kind and patient as it was our first time at this restaurant and area! We order a breakfast burrito, french toast, and an omelette. Everything was amazing. I loved the hash-browns, they were so soft and crunchy on the outside.

Watched the Ad video and read the comments and was like I gotta check this place out. Staff was very friendly so let’s start there. I ended up getting the BBQ burger, some fries, the Biscoff milkshake for me and the Nutella milkshake for my daughter. When I tell you this was the best burger I’ve ever had I sincerely mean that. I had to grab another to go for the road back home. Came back again today to get another one and it tasted just as amazing as the 1st time. These guys do not miss!!! Only thing is I wish they were closer to where I live which is the Kalamazoo area. But any time I’m passing through like today I will definitely stop as long as they’re here!
