“Great food, great beer, great vibes, great prices. Went with a group of 12 and had a blast. The fish and chips were light and delicate yet incredibly crispy. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Huge beer selection at eight dollars a pint, great value and amazing staff.“

Shenanigan's Pub Bar • $
802 Caton Ave, Brooklyn

“Many years ago when it was known as Ryan’s bar my dad was always there. I remember it well. He would take me there often as a youngster and I’d sit at a table and have a coke and bite to eat. It was there this li girl learned how to speak Brooklynese and play shuffleboard table. The original owner was a nice man. My dad Artie still frequented the place as he got older. I know the last time he was there was about 7 or 8 years ago. He was there so much that as a child I had the phone number memorized as a kid. I was on li and if I wanted my dad I’d call him there. It was just a hangout for many in the community like the pubs are in much of Europe especially Britain and Ireland. My dad hated and I mean hated to leave Brooklyn and wanted to buy a home in east 8th but I was sent to li. But you couldn’t take the boy out of the city. He always found ways to stay in Flatbush. Hence me knowing the number by heart. My mom being also from Flatbush and for many years not driving felt the same so she let him be. I miss that place and saw some of the photos and they immediately brought back happy memories. Especially of those of st paddy’s day. Now I’m in Florida. In the country. I mean real country. No Miami etc. cows and horses all over. Acres of property. Never in a million years I’d dream of leaving ny and especially nyc. The insanity made me look at life for my child and make a most agonizing decision. Sadly she will never know the joy of going with her papa and sitting on a barstool and having a coke and a bag of chips or having some corned beef and cabbage on st paddy’s day at Ryan’s/shenanigans. And just hanging with her grandpa and we will include her dad as well. It’s something this country forgot. Just time with your dad. Just being with them. God bless you all in ny and may Jesus protect you!“

Paddy's of Park Slope Sports Bar • $

“Best pint of Guinness in Brooklyn! The bartender Paddy (not the same one on the awning) is friendly and remembered my wife's order, she having only been there one other time before. The second Wednesday of every month is the Conradh na Gaeilge session, so if you've got some Irish or like trad tunes, or both, bígí linn (join us) for some good craic!“

The Leif Bar Bar • $$

“Why would yelp say Leif is closed? Shows youre as useless as teats on a bull yelp. Great bar, amazing bands like the Electrics, Hellor High Water, Bill Kirchen, Panama Dead, Headin South, Rock Farm, Mike Falsarano....This is South Brooklyns best music bar, with a large backroom and outdoir area attached. Closed my Irish butt.“

“The most important bar of the neighborhood (and beyond really). Always open when all the other ones have closed way too early, great atmosphere, mixed audience. A great hang to chat with friends, talk to strangers at the bar or simply sit by yourself and decompress.“

“I loved it! My first visit despite leaving in the area and seeing this place. I stopped by on my way back home after missing my train stop because I felt asleep on my way back from work, I had to walk a long distance back to my neighborhood because trains ran on express track due to an unfortunate incident. I was supposed to have only one drink, I chose Moscow Mule. After a long while, I tasted UFO and "kept" Irish Cider, I liked it! Great play music, English and Spanish, I might come back to karaoke tonight despite working tomorrow and getting up st 5:30 am. No food though, only pizza, no kitchen here. Management, how about serving popcorn, "chicharrones" (easy to find in this neighborhood), or any other "salty snack" upon request to keep us drinking??? That's the way we do in Mexico at the "cantinas" (bars"). i don't want to go home just blocks away!!!“

“Terrific Irish pub. My colleagues and I stopped by after a late night project. They have 22 beers. Lots of other drinks. Food was standard fare but very good. Generous portions. You have to get up and look around the pub. The ceiling above the bar, the statuary and the stained glass were just a few of the neat items at the Wicked Monk. Our waitress and the bus boys were awesome!“

“We enjoyed the food, drinks, and vibe. We’ll be back again. The place is brand new, but some how feels like it’s always been there. Very clean, and friendly staff. It’s easy to get a table now, but you can tell that by summer this place is gonna be packed. So try it now!Had the fish and chips, my partner had the rib eye steak. The steak had a nice seer to it, juicy on the inside. The Buffalo wings were really good, and came in a nice portion. For we had an old fashion, and the Brooklyn lemonade.Overall it’s great quality food, in a nice clean atmosphere that wasn’t overly fancy. It definitely made my list of spots to meet up with friends. Will check out the brunch this spring.“
