Kings County Brewers Collective Brewery • $$
381 Troutman St, Brooklyn - 6.37 miles

“KCBC Brewery stands out as a beacon for beer aficionados, boasting an expansive space that instantly welcomes you with its warm and inviting vibe. The sheer size of the place allows for a diverse crowd, from casual drinkers to serious hop heads, all finding their niche in this vibrant atmosphere. The selection of beers is nothing short of amazing, with each brew showcasing the craftsmanship and passion of its creators. From rich, robust stouts to crisp, refreshing lagers, there's something for every palate. The vibe is lively yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day or kickstart a night out with friends. However, there's a catch—KCBC's focus is solely on their brews, meaning snack options are non-existent. While this might be a slight downside for those looking to pair their pint with a quick bite, the quality and variety of the beers on offer more than make up for it. It encourages guests to immerse themselves fully in the tasting experience, perhaps even prompting a visit to local eateries before or after. In essence, KCBC Brewery is a must-visit for its exceptional beers and the nice vibe it offers, even if it means planning your snacks elsewhere.“

“Embarking upon the gastronomic journey that is Barnea in the heart of Manhattan, one finds themselves in a culinary dreamscape, where each dish serves as a verse in an epicurean sonnet. This establishment isn't just a restaurant; it's a symphony of flavors conducted by the maestro chefs, with the bustling, yet impeccably orchestrated, service reminiscent of a New York minute—swift, efficient, and without a beat missed. Our odyssey commenced with a parade of appetizers that whispered tales of the sea, the earth, and the ethereal realms in between. The king salmon crudo, a dish that seemingly swam from the ocean depths directly to our plates, offered a refreshing prelude with its delicate texture and zesty accompaniments. The Barnea egg Benedict, a celestial reimagining of a brunch classic, was poached not just in water, but in a potion of culinary magic, making each bite a revelation. The polenta fries were like golden beams of sunshine on a plate—crispy on the outside, whisper-soft within, proving that even the humblest ingredients can be elevated to haute cuisine. Crispy dumplings, a playful nod to the global palate, danced with flavors that were at once familiar and novel. Patatas bravas, a dish steeped in tradition, were reborn here, fiery and bold. The beef carpaccio, a testament to the art of simplicity, melted away on the tongue, leaving behind a longing for just one more bite.As we ventured into the main course, the narrative deepened. The duck confit risotto was a masterful blend of textures and tastes, each grain of rice telling a story of craftsmanship and care. The glazed beef short ribs, tender to the point of poetry, were glazed in a sauce that could only be described as liquid gold. The rack of lamb, an ode to the pastoral, was a symphony of succulence and seasoning, while the tournedos, a ballet of beef at its most tender and flavorful, performed gracefully on the palate. The chef's special miso black cod, a dish of understated elegance, whispered secrets of the sea with every forkful.Ah, the grand finale of our gastronomic ballet at Barnea, where the curtain call was as sweet as the symphony preceding it. Dessert is, after all, the encore that every foodie soul yearns for, a final note that lingers long after the performance has ended. And what a standing ovation our choices garnered! The Key Lime Pie, not merely a dessert but a voyage, transported us to the sun-drenched groves of Florida with each bite. Its delicate balance of tart and sweet sang a duet with the buttery, crumbly crust, a harmony so divine that even the angels paused to listen. This was not just a pie; it was a slice of bliss, a creamy whisper of dreams made tangible.La Noisette, on the other hand, was a masterclass in the art of subtlety and sophistication. A ballet of hazelnuts, chocolate, and cream that pirouetted across the palate with grace and elegance. Each spoonful was a brushstroke of flavor, painting a portrait of indulgence that was as exquisite to the eye as it was to the taste. This dessert was a love letter to the senses, penned in the language of sweetness and texture. To dine at Barnea is to partake in a feast for the senses, a testament to the art of cooking, and a reminder of the joy that can be found in a meal not just eaten, but experienced. Would I do it all over again? In a New York heartbeat.“

The burger is decent, but no special sauce and the 8oz patty was in our view too large to be properly complimented by the ingredients, so recommend the 5oz for a more optimal taste compilation. The fries were tasteful but unfortunately soggy even though we had a 5 min transit time only, so can only give 4 stars for the takeout experience. “I was meeting a friend for dinner and it was pouring out. Being wet and cold instantly disappeared once I walked into this magical restaurant! The place is cozy, tables well spaced, clean and comfortable. The wait staff was super friendly, made good suggestions and brought the food out timely. We had the crispy chickpeas with rosemary and black salt. This is listed under snacks. I suggest you order these as soon as you sit down to snack on while deciding what to order. The chickpeas were deep fried with wonderful seasoning and had a delightful crispy taste. They have a wonderful wine list. We had the Chateau De Chantegrive Graves 2012. It is a Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon, France. It tasted like a mixture of a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay and was not too sweet. It also is a great value at $11 a glass. We started with the Steak Tartare appetizer with fresh Chile and ponzu sauce. The chef at this place is a master at spicing, the true art of cooking. Fresh Chile and ponzu are two very flavorful ingredients where each can dominate. Just the right amount of each was added and the flavors blended perfectly with the tartare. We then had the Wild Dover Sole with salsa Verde and the Salmon Rice Bowl with coconut rice, seared salmon, avocado, seaweed, sesame seeds and ponzu sauce. I had never had wild dover soles and wanted to try them. The dover soles were incredibly light and almost melted in our mouths. The Salmon Rice bowl was extraordinary with oodles of flavor. The coconut rice was cooked to perfection. We finished with a cappuccino and latte and the coffee flan. I love flan and coffee so it was heavenly for me. The flan had a strong coffee taste and was not overly sweet as some flans are. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes.Even though I do not live in the neighborhood it is worth the trip!“

The hidden location adds an element of exclusivity to the experience, making it an ideal spot for a memorable evening.During our visit. I had their house cocktail, Charlottes Dilemma, and it instantly stood out as one of the best cocktails I ve ever had. The unmistakable presence of strawberry and cucumber notes added a delightful twist to the overall flavor profile. Meanwhile, my partner opted for the classic A.M. Prescription. Both drinks were well-executed choices with visually appealing presentations. The servers at The Boardroom proved to be both knowledgeable and engaging, enhancing our overall experience. A particular highlight was an impromptu whiskey-tasting session facilitated by one of the gentlemen on staff for my partner, where the two forged a genuine connection over their shared appreciation for whiskey. The small bites menu, though not sampled during our visit, offers a convenient option for those looking for a quick bite to complement their drinks. Though the prices tend to be on the higher side, I found them to be justifiable, considering the upscale atmosphere and the attentive service providedI'd absolutely recommend The Boardroom to anyone looking for a refined and sophisticated evening out.“

“This place is a gem among a very busy borough of bars and lounges. I went with a girlfriend in February to catch up. I had first come here years over eight years ago and was so happy it's just as quiant as I remembered it. Service was quite nice too. I will definitely come back soon.“

Beer Street Bar •

“A tight little bar that has a classic vibe. There is always a small, but well-curated beer list. Service is to-the-point as most NY service is, but also quick. It's a now-classic craft beer spot and a great place to kill a couple hours any night of the week.“

“You can get booze anywhere but you go to a bar for the staff and atmosphere. This place has both, the staff is down to earth and makes you feel like you belong there. The place is huge and very clean with lots of entertainment along with having the best wings in town. I love to play pool there and hang with the bartenders while enjoying the sun setting on the place. Two thumbs up, would recommend to a friend, 5 out of 5 dentists approve.“

The Local Bar Bar • $
41-04 31st Ave, Astoria - 4.37 miles

“We had the VFW in Astoria booked for a celebration of life for my mom and brother. We waited and waited and no one showed up to let us in. A crowd began to gather and still no word from the VFW. My wife and sister searched the area and stumbled up The Local. They explained our situation and the bartender was more than accommodating. We were able to use the outside area which was quite spacious and bring our own food!!! All they asked was that we bought some drinks(which were amazing!!!) I will definitely visit the Local whenever I'm in Astoria!!!“

“Cracking little scottish pub. I went down for the Monday night "session," some great fiddlers, and a few songs. Very warm welcome when I shared a song and a drink on the house at the end of the night. Great crowd, and we even made a few new friends. Slàinte Mhath.“

“A very nice bar with a variety of beers that you will find interesting. The ambience and the decorations are something you want from a Manhattan sports bar. The bar tenders and waiters were super cool and polite. I had a great time there on my last night in NY.“
