I tell you that I can smell this place an avenue away! When I walked on the Broadway intersection toward the Amsterdam, I spotted the luring hints of the tomato, the wheat, and fragrance of wood fired dough.Straightly came to eat pizzas, pretty nice addition to the neighborhood so I don’t have to go all the way downtown. I'm shocked at the inconsistency of the quality within one meal. The first Tartufata pizza was excellent, flavorful, with a crispy crust. The second, a Margherita, was terrible: the dough was soggy and chewy, the topping was extremely wet and it was very bland. The rest of the meal was fine but a bit bland.
Love the food here. Came with a friend. Shared the calamari fritti; it was crisp and tender and not a hint of oil, with a few fried vegetable crisp and some lemon. Tried two pies: the white porcini with truffle cream was amazing; and the red eggplant parmigiana was scrumptious. As always, the crusts were charred but delicate and chewy.
