10 Best Craft Breweries near Ossining

Sing Sing Kill Brewery Brewery • $
75 Spring St, Ossining

“Small taproom with big reward. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and the bartender could not have been more welcoming, informative and attentive. The only downside was the inability to sample all beers on Tap due to a couple of really interesting ones kicking, but no worries we will return to catch them.“

“Update: when I reviewed a month or so ago the beer in cans was not available. It is now and WOW! “Otis” is their West Coast style IPA and it is amazing! So fresh. I’m totally a raving fan! …We discovered Miles the Prince purely by chance as we were getting gas and got a recommendation from a local who had eaten there. What an undiscovered gem! Super atmosphere and very fresh, happy place. The owner just opened and was so passionate and proud. He told us about his extensive experience and journey to starting the business. He clearly cares about the food and went the extra mile (no pun intended) to make sure we were well cared for. There is a full brand new brewery downstairs and we sampled all the beers. Heaven— I subscribe to what Ben Franklin said: “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Well, Ben would love this place. I can’t wait till they start selling it for take out. The owner said it’s coming any day now. Truly tasty!“

“This is a great place for the whole family on weekends with a good kids menu, especially on Sunday when kids eat free! They have a bunch of games for everyone and sometimes have live music. Food is good, and they have a wide variety of beers they brew. Staff is very friendly as well.“

Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Brewery • $$
444 Saw Mill River Rd, Elmsford - 6.83 miles

“Captain Lawrence Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Pleasantville, New York in 2006. It was founded by head brewer Scott Vaccaro. In 1995, Vaccaro saw a high school classmate's father homebrewing and asked if he could help assist. Still just a teenager, Vaccaro was told that he would be allowed with parental permission. He later enrolled at Villanova University to study accounting, but transferred to UC Davis to study fermentation science when he realized that beer was his true passion. Vaccaro interned at Adnams Brewery in the UK and later worked at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. He opened his first brewery on Castleton Street in Pleasantville. He named it "Captain Lawrence" in reference to the street that he grew up on: "Captain Lawrence Drive" (named for the 18th century militia captain Samuel Lawrence). In 2011, after outgrowing its 20-barrel system, the brewery relocated to a larger space in Elmsford that had a bottling line and a larger brew system. In May 2019, the Elmsford brewery expanded to 33,000-square-feet and added a full-service restaurant. In October 2020, the brewery opened a secondary Barrel House location in Mount Cisco which focuses on barrel-aging and blending both beer and spirits. My son and I recently visited Captain Lawrence Brewing for lunch. My wife and I visited the brewery a couple of times when we first started dating. The brewery had changed a lot since my last visit; I love the new restaurant space that they have now. One thing is for sure, the brewery is very family friendly. I couldn't help but notice that there were a lot of people who were like me: late 30s/early 40s, got into craft beer about 10 years ago, who now had young children, etc. Although the food menu features a variety of different dishes, my son and I were in the mood for wood-fired pizza. We decided to order the "Pepperoni Pie" (marinara, mozz, pecorino) and the "Honeybear Pie" (marinara, mozz, sausage, hot honey, whipped ricotta, oregano). The pizzas came out super fast and they were super delicious! To pair with the pizza, I ordered a beer flight which consisted of "Hop Commander" (IPA), "Jam Juice" (Hazy IPA), "Golden Delicious" (Belgian Tripel), and "Dark Chocolate Cherry" Imperial Stout). They were all pretty good, but the tripel was my favorite. Overall, we had an excellent experience at Captain Lawrence Brewing and I look forward to visiting their Barrel House in Mount Cisco in the future!“

River Outpost Brewing Company Brewery • $$
5 John Walsh Blvd, Peekskill - 8.87 miles

“If you're looking for a quiet restaurant, this isn't the place. The noise and energy come from the games and sports bar vibe but with lots of kids running around. The best choice is to order from the bar and eat outside ( weather permitting of course). That said, the food is good - pub/ bar-like menu. The views make it worth the trip. Overall a good experience on the Peekskill waterfront.“
