“I'm not generally one to write reviews of restaurants unless they hit a high bar. Canard hit that bar and then some. I went with my family for my birthday dinner and every dish was an absolute standout. Additionally, the service was outstanding, cocktails amazing (the digestifs on the menu was a great touch as well ) and a really inviting setting that lets you know you're in a quality restaurant but doesn't feel stuffy. Don't sleep on the steamed burgers too! Will absolutely be returning!“

I had read that they are reserving some tables for walk-ins, so we got there a few minutes after they opened. It was a fun spot, as there was only two of us, and we got to watch the bartender making all the festive drinks. He was very chatty and nice. I had the Marshmallow and Unicorn and my husband had Santa's Secrets, which was zero-proof. Of course, true to Miracle Fashion both were served in fun mugs/glasses. Of course all the staff and the bar looks like Christmas threw-up on it (in a good way), but what we really got a kick out of, was how well decorated the bathroom was. Even Hallmark movies you don't see decorated bathrooms. I can't recall ever taking a picture in a public bathroom, but this one was absolutely photo worthy.The bartender did mention we were smart to arrive early, and he was right, as when we were leaving I only saw two seats free. “The origins of the name of this pub-like lunch and breakfast restaurant are not known to me. I have had Friday lunch here for nearly 6 years on a regular basis. Just before the Covid plague, the previous restaurant closed and my vice opened. It stayed open, unlike many of the nearby restaurants, during the plague, and eventually flourished. The chef — whom I have not met — is an unlikely burley fellow who is one of the most creative cooks I have had the pleasure of sampling his menu. The creativity is remarkable, especially considering the limited menu of a breakfast lunch type of restaurant. The names of his dishes alone are worth the visit. He also succeeds in keeping the costs down, which makes the decision to drop in a much easier one. It has a full bar with excellent, equally creative, cocktails, and very limited, but well-chosen wines. The service is remarkable, and the waitresses greet me by name when I come in. Totally unnecessary, but totally pleasurable. Every dish recommended below I have had at least twice and sometimes as many as five times. The average, huge, main dish is about $15-$17.Vegetarian options: I am not familiar with the vegetarian options, but there appear to be plenty available and look to be delicious.Parking: 9 Parking places just outside the restaurant as well as street parking nearby.Kid-friendliness: There are not a lot of children there, but it is a friendly, public atmosphere that welcomes kids. “Thanks to Yelp reviews, we decided to give this a try. I have to say this was excellent. Service was great - our server was knowledgeable without being condescending. Ambiance was also very nice, cool decor, dark and cozy. I will note that coming in there was a weird air freshener smell, not sure what they were trying to cover, but I would rather have smelled the delicious food. Speaking of food, I just can't say enough about how great our meal was. I started with a caesar salad which was excellent (except a few croutons were so hard they were rocks). My husband got the polenta cake and is still talking about it. For my main I got the creamy ravioli - I think that was the vegetarian special, hubby got another veggie pasta dish (which was also excellent.) It seemed almost everything was noted whether there was a vegetarian or vegan option, which I truly appreciated. We each had a glass of wine, and also opted for tiramisu - which was unique with chocolate covered espresso bean chunks (I think?) on top, and nice a boozy. Sure there were a few things I noted about that weren't fabulous (weird freshener smell, rock croutons) but we cannot wait to go back and bring friends.“

“This was my family’s first time eating at Mestizo and we were not disappointed. I have Celiac and my daughter has a severe dairy intolerance. For once, all 3 of us were able to order several dishes to SHARE! This never happens at restaurants with our many dietary restrictions. My non-GF/DF husband loved everything, too. Note: the entire restaurant is 100% gluten free and Celiac safe, but there is dairy present in some of the dishes. However, it was very easy for them to accommodate us by taking an ingredient off, etc. Our favorites were the fried shrimp, elote, fish tacos, and the chicken tinga tostados. The drinks were also amazing. The waitstaff is attentive and kind and our food came out super fast, but still incredibly fresh. The flavors are what put this restaurant over the top for me. Everything had a very specific (delicious) flavor that made the dish special. Do NOT miss out on the GF gem! (I suggest getting a reservation for weekend nights and possibly even weekday night.) Thankfully not a lot of people came out at happy hour time for cocktails so there were only four other sets of folks in there with us. The noise level was perfect for me who is struggling with some minor hearing loss due to my 40 years of living. I like very simple drinks so I ordered an Old Fashioned. It was delicious. And they use Old Forester as their "well bourbon." I love Old Forester. Our server/bartender (doing both jobs) was very nice. He was patient with us. He also wanted to make sure I knew that the Brie was covered in a puff pastry since I said I needed cucumbers instead of bread. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance so there's not a ton of the menu I can eat. That's fine. I went for the booze. All in all it was a good experience. It's definitely not a place I would go on a Friday night. But I will definitely go back during the week. (I don't like bumping elbows with strangers. I'm too old for that crap.)
