“The location is an odd corner of downtown - but don’t let that discourage you! The owner is very nice, the restaurant is very clean, the food is authentic, and the ingredients are of great quality. We wanted to have a delicious meal before traveling to Korea for the first time and it was a perfect introduction. Thank you for a delicious dinner and all the well wishes!“
“Inside this unassuming storefront in Westview is some of the best Southeast Asian food in Pittsburgh. Lovingly and expertly made by a Myanmarese family, the food is fresh, authentic, and delicious. Go for the salads (pickled tea leaf salad, pickled ginger salad, fresh tofu salad, crispy yellow tofu salad, samosa thoke), the soups, the curries (pickled mango pork), and the noodle dishes.Tip: if you can, eat in instead of getting takeout—the salads especially are at their absolute best when they are freshly made. (The crispy and crunchy components tend to sog out a little otherwise.)“
“We ate here on a Saturday evening, with a reservation for two at 7.30pm. When we arrived the restaurant was quite full and we had to wait a little while before being seated. At that point, the service was very strong. We tried several dishes, including the salad, miso soup, sashimi plate, nigiri plate, and some hand rolls (mushroom, eel, scallop). We tried the tiramisu, chocolate pudding, and crème caramel for dessert. All in all, the food was tasty, the ambiance was relaxing and pleasant, and service was good. We had a very nice evening.“
“My husband and I love Kawa. It is the best place to get sushi or hibachi cuisine in the North Hills. We have eaten in the restaurant a number of times and order take out all of the time. The staff is wonderful and very kind. The food is exceptional quality every time. We can’t recommend this place enough!“
“Came to give my out of town friend a taste of local sushi, not knowing what to look for. Saw the good reviews and they are 100% accurate. Presentation was great and we both left happy. My friend said the maya was great, he enjoyed its flavor.“
“During my week-long stay in Pittsburgh, I had the pleasure of dining at Maiku Vietnamese Pho, and it truly stands out as the pinnacle of culinary excellence in the city. I explored various eateries throughout the city, but none matched the impeccable flavors and authenticity of Maiku's offerings. The moment you step in, the aroma of authentic Vietnamese cuisine envelops you, setting the stage for a remarkable dining experience. Their Pho is a symphony of flavors, each spoonful bursting with freshness and depth, reminiscent of the streets of Vietnam. But it's not just their Pho; every dish I tried showcased a dedication to quality ingredients and expert craftsmanship.Beyond the exquisite food, the service is unparalleled. The staff exudes warmth and hospitality, ensuring every guest feels welcomed and well taken care of. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur of Vietnamese cuisine or a first-time visitor, Maiku Vietnamese Pho guarantees a culinary journey that will leave you craving for more.In conclusion, if you're in Pittsburgh and craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, look no further than Maiku Vietnamese Pho. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience that will linger in your memory long after the last bite.Highly recommended!“
“Oh my gosh, no words can express how yummy the sushi is!! Red river and cry baby 2 were absolutely FIREEEEE! No soy sauce even needed for these rolls. The quality of the fish in both rolls were fantastic. No weird fishy smell/taste and it just melts!! Can't wait to try the other rolls. 11/10! Inhaled my food so fast I didn't even take a pic... oops.“
“This place seems to be authentic for me. Small Korean restaurant with few extra seats on the second floor. Waiting time around 15 mins because they are busy with other orders. The counter desk lady is quick and serious. I ordered the most expensive dish in the menu - galbi bento (Korean short ribs). Decent size portion, enough for a man to get full, meat was fresh with balanced marinade but chewy for me. So, I was not able to eat every piece of meat in whole. Nice place to explore. Would order unagi bowl next time.“
“Visiting the city, one of my friends recommended here. Fresh meat and quality rice. I tasted several tuna and salmon roles and was happy with the quality. The wasabi is grated in house and has limited additions. Overall, I enjoyed the time.“
“Awesome sushi joint. Not the most amazing sushi ever but its certainly great, and super affordable. Service is quick so it's my go to place to pick up sushi as a college student. You can sit down inside but there is not a ton of seating and no bathroom. Great spot though.“
“I have been to this restaurant many times. There are so many choices on their menu's that it's very hard to decide what to eat. The food is excellent, the service is exemplary. They have great sushi and since it's not listed here, my favorite is pork with green string beans. The servings are quite abundant and I have never left there without a leftover container.“
“Interior could use a bit of updating, but was clean and comfortable enough (kudos on the St Paddy's day decorations!). As for the sushi, definitely some of the best in town. Had the dragon, rainbow, Pittsburgh, and red dragon rolls, and loved them all.“
“AMAZING experience ! I loved everything I ordered. I got the fried chicken, the fried tempura sushi roll, and the onigiri which was the highest quality tuna I’ve ever had in my life it was sooo good! We got a nice private room for my party and everything about this place is meticulously detailed! Go go go!!!“
“I always love going to Andy's sushi bar on spring break. The sushi is good, and the portions are great. The service is good, and his station seems very sanitary. Every time I've been here it's been a positive experience. Thanks!“
“Read the mini bio/mission statement of young Luke Wholey at the front of the restaurant; so charming and somehow makes you feel personally connected. The food we ordered was cooked very well with great freshness, flavor and seasoning. The fish and oysters were excellent. We had the unexpected opportunity to meet and speak with R. Wholey who was very generous with his time in answering questions about the history of the family business. What a treat!Personally observed LW with a broom in hand and doing a quick clean of the stairs then also acting as greeter and host as guests came in. It was our first visit, hopefully not the last, and I hope the restaurant continues to have success and longevity much like the related Wholey's fish market and grocery store down the block.“
“It was very clean. The lady that served us and the gentleman that cooked for us were extremely kind and helpful to my sister and I. The food was fantastic and tasted so super fresh!!! My sister came in all the way from Israel and it was our first experience here and I know that I will definitely be back!!! Thank you Cafe Eighteen!!“
“Not as good as nearby Silk Road, but almost as impressive. The sushi was super excellent ? The orange chicken for the most part was good, just a few stringy pieces. Service was a bit slow but they were little busy on a Saturday night. Will visit again.“
“Hands down the best sushi spot in Pittsburgh. If you are looking for something simple, authentic, and fresh, it’s the spot for you. If you are one of those people that likes their sushi to be loaded with bunch of crunchy stuff and all kinds of sauces, it’s not the best choice for you my friend, you may want to stick with Giant Eagle sushi then. This place serves authentic sustainable food, and not junk.“
“This is my favorite local restaurant for sushi! The staff there is so amazingly my and the best part of my meal is the free salad with my three rolls that it order. The restaurant is so clean and well light. Keep up the great sushi. Your sushi making staff is amazing and talented.“
“We come here all the time to eat and buy the freshest seafood in Pittsburgh! The menu changes so we are always trying something new and deliciousDietary restrictions: Plenty of naturally gluten free optionsParking: They share a free parking lot with Bar Marco but if that is full pretty easy to get a street spot in the evening for dinner“
“The best sushi you will ever eat! Service very slowEdit: thanks for response. Yes the service was perfect in getting the food out. We were just left with the check uncollected for 30 minutes.Based on other reviews (even from a year ago) it seems like it is common for the servers to not collect the check toward the end of the dayI can certainly look the other way because those salmon rolls were stuffed and the prices are great!“
“We had the strongman role and it was really good and fresh. Also tried the tuna avocado roll and that was really good as well. We'll go back and try some other things. The only thing I questioned was a strong manual had a piece of lettuce in it why lol?“
“Its perfect for weekday meals when you are in a hurry and need something tasty and filling. There is some seating inside but most people opt for takeaway from my experience. It can be pretty crowded with students but service is pretty fast. I usually go for the poke bowl because of the quantity of rice. The seafood are nice but nothing extraordinary. I love to have shrimp tempura in my bowl but ones here are sometimes soggy because they are sitting there for a while. A bowl can range from anywhere between $10-20 depending on the toppings!“
“If you are going for the all you can eat sushi I think it is a fair deal! $27 and the menu is huge! Go hungry! The sushi was tasty and came pretty quickly. I would stick only to the sushi though! The appetizers tasted frozen and the noodle soup had no flavor. The only appetizer we liked was the sexy jalapeños but still just B grade! But the sushi was worth it! Tons of choices! The waiter was great and checked on us multiple times so we didn't feel bad about placing many orders! It is pretty crowded and noisy in there but a fun time!“
“This was our first time, we would give it 10 stars ?Vegetarian options: YesParking: Was about a 1/2 block, plenty of parking, but it was difficult to get out...we parked on top but had to drive down like 6 levels to get out...they should have access at the top to get out!Kid-friendliness: Not that I had any with me, but saw a couple families with young kids..Very well behaved“
“A good all around Asian restaurant with a varied menu that covers enough bases for everyone to find something they like: Sushi, a broad selection of the usual American Chinese dishes, Pad Thai, Thai Curries, …The prices were very fair for being located on Walnut Street in Shadyside. Noodles or fried rice were in the $13 -$16 range and 75% of the other entrees in the $16 - $20 range. Regular sushi rolls were priced between $6 - $9 and most Special Rolls were $15 - $17.We enjoyed the sushi which was comparatively good for the city in an energetic, above average atmosphere for this type of restaurant. Nice, sturdy take home bags were a plus.“
“I’m very rarely downtown at lunch time, but every time I am, I look forward to eating at this place. A friend introduced me to this restaurant years ago and I’m so glad they are still around. It’s counter service and they only take cash (and FYI, they don’t accept the juror discount vouchers other restaurants in this food court do). Service is brisk and professional. My food was ready in just a few minutes.I always get the kyu-don, and it is DELICIOUS every time. It’s a pretty generous portion of beef, egg, and rice. I like it with the oil added on top to give it a mild spice. I’ve been tempted to try some of the other things on the menu — they all sound good — but the kyu-don is so good I just can’t not have it.I’ll be looking forward to coming back the next time I’m downtown!“
“This place was amazing. The food was so delicious, my friends and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and our evening here. Our waitress was so kind and helpful, I feel terrible I didn't catch her name! The prices were great too. It was a spur of the moment decision to come here and we were thrilled.“
“The food here was absolutely delicious! I can't wait to come back to try more options. We were able to be seated right away, however keep in mind that it is a ONE MAN SHOW so there is and will be a long wait to receive your food, especially if it is busy.I can't remember his name unfortunately, but he was so nice!“
