“Once is a fluke, but four times is consistent. A week ago, my wife and I ordered Norwegian Salmon. It was the first time ever I was able to enjoy and eat the tasty, savory crust. The chef told us that he heats the salmon on high for 20 minutes to make the crust so memorably delicious. Last night we returned to Taylor, the amazing server, and ordered the exact same dishes. They were exactly as superb as the previous week. So we topped it off with the absolute best Chocolate mousse either one of us ever had. The multiple textures and ingredients made it memorable, and worthy enough of this super 5 star review. We will back to repeat this experience with Taylor, Bistro 112 and their amazing chef. Meeting owners Jae and Lars at the end was an added treat for us. Smiling, Dr. Harvey Levy and Lena Rotenberg“

“We were here for a getaway, and we are so glad our innkeepers recommended The Press Room. Very pleasant dining room, great service, excellent menu options, and we particularly liked the special items. Our waitress, Angie, was terrific in every way! She loves her job, and it’s obvious!“

“We visited a few local restaurants during a visit to the area, and this was one of our favorites! The outdoor garden seating is lovely! The stream is a little loud, but, personally, I liked hearing the sound of nature while enjoying my meal. The overall vibe of the restaurant is very casual. A great place to enjoy a burger or wrap - which is what my husband and I both got. We also got the hummus appetizer, which had delicious warm pita bread with it! The hummus was a little saltier than my preference, but overall good! Similarly, the turkey wrap that I got was a little on the salty side, but still yummy. It had lots of fresh veggies in it, which was delicious. We had our 11 month old with us. They had a high chair for her, but it was a little tricky to use in the outdoor seating. The brick floor by our table was a little uneven, making the chair rock a bit when she moved (which our little one thought was fun, but Mama was a little nervous ?). Staff were kind and friendly to all of us. The individual any gender bathrooms were cute and well maintained. There was a diaper changing station in the larger bathroom. The one bathroom did have a messy toilet seat (the rest of the room was clean), but I told a staff member about it and they promptly took care of it. Overall, this is a great casual and relaxing lunch spot.Kid-friendliness: There are high chairs. The outdoor seating has brick ground that is slightly uneven in spots, so some tables are not the best for high chairs, but it worked for us. There is a diaper changing station in the bathroom. Staff were very friendly to our baby. Food was a little on the salty side, if you're watching that for little ones, but overall, there were some appropriate baby led weaning options, including the hummus appetizer, if that's what you're looking for.“

Bavarian Inn, Resort and Brewing Company Vegetarian • $$$
164 Shepherd Grade Rd, Shepherdstown

“The thing with the Bavarian Inn (BI) is that they thought they were something they were not. The rooms--especially the Potomac view ones, are remarkable, though a bit aged. The infinity pool is remarkable. BUT, they modernized the main house in a slick way that compromises the arhetiicural ethos of the place. And, they added a brewpub. God am I tired of brewpubs. Just give me a Budweiser. Keep your coffee stout for some yuppie want-to-be who pontificates about beer like he's a seasoned sommelier. The real food gem is the Rathskeller, down the stairs and with no sign. It's filled every night, with a throw-back piano player crooning Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra and such. It is dark and calm. The food is terrific. I'm a wiernerschnitzle man with plenty of anchovies and brown gravy, accompanied by soft red cabbage and spaetzle. It's a huge plate of food, as are all the German dishes. (They have a contemporary section of the menu but it's food I could get any where). Go German. It's always busy but the young waiters and staff move at just the right pace. If you like beer, go here. Twenty ounce Spaten lagers and all the classics. Why the Rathskeller is only open Friday and Saturday nights is a mystery to me. It's one of the main reasons people come here. The BI is worth every penny but do the weekends to you can enjoy the charms of the Rathskeller.“

“The food was good. I had the wienerschnitzel with spaetzle. Be warned, there was something on the lemon that turns out to be an anchovy. Thank God i didn't eat that. Pricewise, it is on the highside at $32 for a pork wienerschnitzel. The rahmsauce that came with the schnitzel was too thin to be called a cream sauce. It tasted fine but was more like broth than cream sauce.“
