Goose Island Taproom Brewery • $$
1800 W Fulton St, Chicago

“Borrowing the wise words of our epic Chicago historian Shermann Dilla Thomas Goose Taproom is one of the dopest places in the dopest cities (located near the United Center) Why so?Not surprisingly, the crew that works is there is above and beyond amazing! From the tap manager to the bar tenders, to the tour guides, to the brewers, and the list goes on. This is a must if visiting town and especially if your a local. This place benefits from local patronage as we can be part of a tourist’s experience! Despite Chicago’s segregated neighborhood design, this place embraces love and diversity for all folks. I know this first hand having organized diverse musical events. They of course are know for their beers and you will find on site ONLY options that are amazing and very LIMITED.You can bring your own food, family, and they have menus onsite to order in.You may run into amazing Goose Taproom reps like Nick, Chris, Brian, Johnny, Julian, Kelsie, Eliseo, and more that provide top notch professional customer service that you just won’t find at most places. It is a rather magical dream team.Parking is usually easy and there are dope spots within a 2-3 drive to get coffee Metric (pricey yet good) pizza - Dante’s or Tortorice's Pizza, vegan food - Liberation Kitchen/Upton’s, and a bakery - Publican Bakery (pricey yet good). This place is a must, again for all tourists (yes families are welcome for well behaved kids ?; and especially for you beautiful Chitown locals (yes born and raised or yuh been here most your life).“

“Food was great, but service was lacking.Wait was quite long on the weekend, but that was expected. If I were to go again, I'd probably bring my own latte for the line, ha. But the maiz con leche was everything I hoped it would be. The longanisa was superb. I couldn't identify the spices, but it had such a different balance than what I'm used to in Latin cuisine. They have an odd ordering/seating system where you order at the front, pay, but then they don't sit you for a while, then they sit you, then they bring you out your food. They came by 4 times during our brunch to tell us that they couldn't find our lattes in the system. Not once did they ask what the lattes were. They eventually brought out the lattes as we were just finishing our meals (and obviously found them in the system since they brought out the right ones). Since we already tipped, I guess no incentive to do anything about the poor service. They didn't comp the lattes, they didn't bring out a little dessert, etc. like you might see in a any other restaurant.Obviously they need to make the ticketing system more accessible to their waiters or train them on it better.“

“Small interior, but very nice outdoor patio space to eat at. Started with the chicken pot pie. Nice crispy crust and a great balance of peas, carrots, and chicken. Great flavors but the chicken was a little overcooked messing with the overall texture of the pie filling. The reason I came was to try a sweet pie and ended up getting the chocolate pud’n. The pudding and cocoa whipped cream had perfect consistencies with the pudding being slightly thicker. Dark chocolate curls on top being a nice touch and everything being encompassed by the crust which reminded me of brownie brittle. The slice was not overly sweet but gave me all the chocolate flavor I needed. Can’t wait to come back and try some of their other sweet pies as well the mushroom pot pie.“

“Rejoice! The place for some great Chinese teas had arrived near you! Yes, it does share the fad with the Taiwan born boba drinks. But our eye was caught by the nice website with images of nice teacups and ambiance. Only 23 miles away from home we discovered that the trip in a hot and still pandemic day was totally worth it. In few words owner, Shaolong picked the teaist vibes in us and offered us a great real experience of sharing a favorite tea - he introduced us to the wonders of Zhang Ping Shui Xian (漳平水仙). Unlike the real "black tea", the Pu-erh, this one also comes in bricks, yet is a type of oolong with an amazing floral scent. We were honored with 4 different samples which we are currently slowly and thoroughly testing (3 pics). And yes, the fermentation levels are different - some definitely will give you a great oolong taste, but others are just a unique elixir on its own. But back to the house itself. I see and hope for great unrolling potential. This could become a place for tea lovers and teaists in training. Why not theme days, classes, shared experiences, a club? We would join. The 23 miles are a drive, but there isn't much of a real tea-drinking place in our Chicagoland (unlike smaller cities in North America like Portland and Montreal). However, Living Water Tea House is a great promise and it totally won our full support! Keep the cups warm!“
