Restaurantji unveils Forestdale's must-visit Mexican dining spots.
“Best ceviche I have ever had - and I’m from a costal state where it’s very popular. The atmosphere was great and our waiter was awesome! I had the Masa Custed Trout - 10 out of 10!! My son had Barbaccoa quesadilla, it was great too! Little one had a bacon quesadilla he ate ALL of it shocking for put 9 yo! Seriously though, go! You won’t regret it!!“
“The “vegan” tacos were absolutely incredible! Generously filled, excellent flavor and double tortillas. The mozzarella doesn’t seem vegan, though, so you may want to leave it off if you’re fully vegan. There are no tables or chairs. A place to sit would have been nice. But, the food was absolutely worth it and reasonably priced!!Vegetarian options: Awesome vegetarian tacos! They are labeled vegan, but the mozzarella did not seem vegan.“
“I think his name was Felix, he was the guy behind the bar and serving tables last night. This guy is absolutely amazing he is what's going to make this company succeed. These people like him and his generosity and courteousness and his kindness, he really was something special and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to run into him“
“Went to a food truck near the Galleria on John Hawkins and was told there was something wrong with the grill but come to find out the girl just didn’t want to cook in the heat for a small order. Well, THANK YOU for turning me away because I discovered this food truck and man is it delicious!! Just Wish it was closer to me. I’d probably be there every other day!!“
“Food is consistently good. The brisket is always fantastic. The service can be a little hit or miss, but never terrible. Parking can be difficult at busy times but it’s in a pretty happening area. Margaritas are fresh squeezed and not made with a mix so they’re pretty tasty. Nice patio area when the weather is nice.“
“Walked in because of the sign. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. It felt like an authentic Mexican taqueria. I order two steak tacos, which were absolutely delicious, and Mexican rice, which tasted divine! Very authentic Mexican food for a price that won’t break your wallet!“
“Service was excellent. Great family place with fun decor. But the food was mediocre, and the margaritas were super weak. The mole chicken was just flavorless cooked chicken with mole sauce poured over just before serving. The fajitas had almost no vegetables, just meats. Lots of people like it, but it's not for me.“
“Nice small authentic Taqueria. It's not a big fancy restaurant, what is honest quality food. Amazing. Great for lunch or a quick husband wife dinner. Casual. They got a wonderful Habanero cream sauce for tacos that gives a little kick but tastes great.“
“This is the BEST food truck in the city. Period. I've been going here for 10+ years and this is some of the tastiest food you'll find in all of Birmingham. Do not be fooled by the low prices - this is high-quality, fresh food you will love. Also don't be scared by some of the more exotic choices on the menu. My favorite taco is tripa (cow intestine) which I avoided for years because I wasn't comfortable with the idea of eating it. What a mistake that was! Dos Hermanos is amazing. Don't miss it.“
“It’s nice to walk in, have the menu and you get to order your food, and go to your table. So it’s a different method of placing an order. Food is good, large portions, slightly salty, yet still delicious.Clean location. The outdoors and indoors are open into each other with the large windows opened up. Beautiful location.“
“I'm not the kind of guy that likes to eat the same thing twice in a row. I crave variety like it's sold on street corners, so believe it when I tell you this place is special. I've eaten the same dish for dinner twice in a row because it was just too good. (Cabeza burrito)It's got mostly the options you'd expect from a Taco truck, but some that stand out as novel, too. I've had most anything on a Mexican restaurant menu before, but I've never had Tlacoyos before. They look like tacos with the tortillas fried, in the picture; trust me, I'm gonna try them soon. I mean, my girlfriend is the type to call black pepper spicy, and googles the ingredients before they'll eat them, and she STILL got the lengua! Twice!Listen, I mean what is there to dislike about this place other than the parking? As of March 2024, it's situated near Maya, the Mexican restaurant on Oxmoor Rd, off Green Springs, in a lot that gets pretty crowded quick. An hour or less till closing and they're packed, so try to come a little earlier if you want to find parking. They're lightning fast in that truck! I had my burrito in less than 10 minutes, and some of that time was us ordering. Incredible food, very friendly staff, and a mostly convenient location. You're making a terrible mistake if you don't come get you some. ¡Buen provecho!Parking: Parking lot, but it's got a building that's being worked on, so it might look sketchy at first. Trust, it's fine. They are super worth the tight right turn.Kid-friendliness: There's no dining in, so kids are fine if they don't run into the road or something.Wheelchair accessibility: Fairly flat ground, no need for a ramp. The exits from the lot are doable, but they are quite a dip.“
“This was like the fourth taco place I drove to on a Monday night and it was the only one open. I’ve driven by this place a lot and never gotten food here. I’m so glad I did! Service was amazing and fast. I got three tacos for under $10. The flavor was better than the surrounding taco trucks. I will be coming back! Also one of the only places I’ve ever been too that automatically gives you a cactus and onion side that is very unique.“
“The service received was very good and the margaritas were on point! I highly recommend the Guacamole Casera as an appetizer. I had the Chicken Fajitas and my date tried the Fiesta Bowl, it was fantastic! The brightly decorated dining room and bar area just add to the ambiance. My only reason for not giving a five star review is due to it taking almost 30 minutes to receive our food after ordering. They were very busy and the server kept us stocked on drinks and chips and dip. Maybe after my next meal I can update to five stars!“
“LOVE ?????? fattest n most SCRUMPTIOUS quesadillas I had in a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I overestimated myself, ordered 2 quesadillas, and couldn't finish because they were so big fat juicy ?????????????????????????? words cannot describe my delight...Wheelchair accessibility: Not really wheelchair or mobility disability friendly sadly. Many stairs n not much ramp“
“Everything is fantastic here. It's always a wonderful experience. The food is excellent. I have tried several of their dishes. Nothing disappoints. The staff is all very welcoming, friendly, and courteous. The restaurant is very clean. The drinks are a must try.“
“Rojo is a staple in the area and I can’t imagine Birmingham without it! Tucked in beautiful Highland Park this gem is a must stop for the local atmosphere and diverse eats. Many gluten free/vegan options, dine in or to go… stuck at home? DoorDash it!!! You have to try the David’s Quesadilla, it’s a personal favorite. Stop in for open mic night for a good time or visit during any other special nights/events. Thank you for everything Rojo!❤️Dietary restrictions: Dairy free, Gluten Free, Vegan options“
“There were 8 of us who went to lunch at the Gardendale location about three weeks ago. It was one of our first warm days and they had the garage door open, it was fantastic. We ordered our food and it arrived in a matter of minutes. Everyone was so friendly and attentive to be sure our food was exactly as we had ordered. It was my first time eating at a Taco Mama restaurant and it was awesome. The food was fresh and the salsa was just right. I built my own burrito bowl with the shredded chicken and can’t say enough positive words about how tasty the food was. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. We will certainly be returning soon.“
“Incredible food at a great price. Your kids will love this place. The service here is super friendly and helpful. They'll do what it takes to ensure you have a great dining experience. Ashley for example is 5 stars. Thanks Ashley.“
“My husband and I have dined here many times and love the place, so we decided to invite my brother and sister-in-law to celebrate her birthday. It was just excellent!!First, the restaurant is beyond beautiful with the murals, decor, tiny ceiling lights, etc. We started with cocktails - Paloma (I always order this and it's the best in town), Ranch Water and a tequila neat. We shared the Sol y Luna Sampler, which is guacamole & pico de gallo w/ interesting assortment of chips - so fresh and delicious! For dinner, I ordered the grilled salmon w/ garlic mashed potatoes while my brother got the cantina house salad topped w/ grilled salmon. Both were excellent. The salmon was cooked perfectly with a wonderful sear on the outside and so moist inside. My husband and SIL shared the Gambas al Ajillo (the cooked garlic in olive oil w/ red pepper is outstanding!), Shrimp Diabla on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes w/ crispy potatoes, and Red Snapper al Mojo de Ajo w/ shrimp and an amazing tomato & onion sauce and all this came with baskets of bread to soak up all those flavors. As you can see from the pictures, each dish was just beautiful. And, each of them tasted amazing (I was lucky enough to get to sample their dishes). The seafood was not overcooked and each tapa was so unique and flavorful. In addition to the delicious drinks and food, the service was excellent. The hostess made her rounds throughout the night to check on customers and our server took great care of us. The owner, Jorge, was also very attentive, periodically checking on us and helping to make my SIL's birthday very special. So, based on this as well as our previous visits, I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed. We will be returning soon!!“
“The girl that was hosting was absolutely phenomenal she was really sweet and really kind and really personable. All the way back to the Cook and everybody in between. This place was really a great experience for me and everybody was kind and courteous and they helped me out along the way, this is a great place I would suggest anybody go here I can't wait to get back over there! To the owner...Great job and I really think that you're doing a tremendous job in this community“
“This tacos had been on my tummy for a long time, and they still delicious as the first time. I don't usually take pictures of my food, but today I decided to take one. I ordered some CHICKEN FLAUTAS, these are crunchy rolled tacos, they're not ready when you order,no,it only take 10 minutes to cook them, but trust me,it's worth the 10 min waiting. So,for those who order FLAUTAS, ENJOY MY FRIENDS ??“
“Definitely the best addition to the Vestavia City Center from these last few years. This Taco Mama is so close to us, has such a cute atmosphere with the outdoor sitting area, and is always delivering the best quality food! I'm a sucker for any kind of rice bowl and Taco Mama hits the spot each time. This location never skimps on the portions or sides which is for sure a plus. I usually get tofu since it's cheaper than the shrimp, but the shrimp is by far superior!! Always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Service is extremely fast and the workers are very tentative in all they do:)“
“Absolutely the greatest food in Birmingham!!!!! A must amount must!!!!! It taste it looks like there's no way something this complex would make sense. And it never will. They pulled off greatness from what literally seems like they threw darts at a globe and made the menu. Absolutely my favorite spot will always comeback again!!!!!“
“I grew up in Hueytown,Al and Speedy's was our Sunday, after church, tradition. When I was little I honestly couldn't stand Tex Mex, Mexican food, but I always LOVED Speedy's humungous taco salads, and their mind blowing Combo burritos. There's nothing out of the norm with their recipe, or ingredients, nothing that's a radical departure from any other recipe, as far as I can tell, but there's honestly nothing better. Their salsa is phenomenal. I don't know what they make it from, but I've never had another like it. It haunts my taste buds, in the greatest way possible.I moved away from Hueytown over twenty years ago, and I found myself always wanting their food. i have seriously driven over 7 hours on occasion, just to go get some of their amazing, delectable, other worldly food and salsa. I've lived all over the country, lived in Texas, around some of the world's most authentic, best Mexican and Tex Mex restaurants, food carts, street taco vendors, and as amazing as that experience was, I still always found myself wishing that it was Speedy's.Perhaps it's a psychological, childhood association, leaving a deeply seated love for their food and salsa? Perhaps they're evil geniuses, and brainwashed my taste buds, using the world's leading experts on food based psychological warfare? Or maybe it's just really and truly that phenomenal? Sadly, I don't get to go there nearly as much over the last few years. The only time I do ever seem to pass back through my hometown, is when I'm there for a loved one's funeral. And yes, it may be able to be inferred, that I may possibly choose to make that long drive, for my combo burritos and salsa, more so than being the dutiful family member. But that's because of the taste bud brainwashing, right?! I'm always horrified that I'll find out that they've closed or retired, or sold the restaurant off to someone that doesn't honor old ways. I'm always so fearful that I'll never again taste the sweet nectar of their salsa, the ambrosia that is their burritos. I can't recommended enough selling massive bottles of said salsa, and cryogenically frozen burritos. One day those could save the world, or at the very least, satisfy my intense cravings.Until we meet again, hopefully sooner than later, never close, never stop doing what you do, and feel free to franchise to other states, please.TL;DRFood really really good. Me like a lot. May or may not be secret taste bud, mind control agents, hell bent on hometown taste bud domination.“
“First time to dine here. Very busy on Friday night. We were able to get immediate seating at the bar. The bartender was fantastic! He always had a smile on his face! He chatted and made sure we had what we needed without being intrusive. The beef fajita taco salad was delicious and the prices were terrific! We will definitely be coming back!“
“Taco Mama Downtown, you've knocked it out of the park once again! Last year, we celebrated my 16th Colon Cancer Free-Versary with an epic lunch at your spot. This year, we raced in the Rumpshaker 5k and headed straight to Taco Mama for our 2nd Annual Luncheon. The vibes, the grub, and the service (shoutout to Lee!) were top-notch as always. Thanks for always making us feel like family! Can't wait for the next visit! ?? #hardystrong #rumpshaker #family #fightingcolorectalcancer #survivor #goodtimes“
“Ate here with some coworkers, so I'll forgive them for getting my order wrong. The food was pretty good, and the drinks are what you expect. I got their lime margarita during happy hour for a decent price, and I wasn't disappointed. Next time, I'll have to try the strawberry one! ?Parking: Tecate Bar and Grill shares a parking plaza with other businesses nearby.“
“Best shrimp taco I've ever had (and I've had plenty). Mama Coco is my new go-to place for shrimp tacos and other Mexican delights. The décor features huge displays of characters from the Disney/Pixar movie Coco (loved it), and the restaurant is well maintained and welcoming. The only problem with the menu involves decision-making...yours! Efficient servers deliver generous entrées on warm plates, and the colorful arrays of spiced and sauced foods will satisfy even the hungriest of diners. Exceptional!“
“One of the best hidden gems in town. Not many restaurants have birria tacos, but theirs are top tier.Kid-friendliness: Very spacious and accomodating for kidsParking: Tons of parkingWheelchair accessibility: They do have handicap parking and the entrance is easy to get into.Dietary restrictions: They can accommodate just about anyone. Just ask.“
“Great food, friendly staff.Every experience here is a good one. The portions are large and the prices can't be beat!Parking: Parking is typically easy to find here. We've been here for lunch and dinner times and never had any problems.Kid-friendliness: Very kids friendly. The servers are great with the kiddos and the kids meals are portioned perfectly.“
“Love the food. Gluten free peeps - this is a good place for you! They don't have a gluten free "menu" per say, but you can order just about anything with corn tortillas instead of flour and the food has never made us sick, so they don't use gluten-containing spices in their meats, etc. at least not in a concentration to cause issues. Very fast for to-go orders. It's usually pretty loud inside, but feels like home. Drinks are reasonably priced as well.“
“Great food great prices at baja California. Staff is always friendly. With quick service. Love this placeDietary restrictions: I get corn and gluten free stuffKid-friendliness: Kind staff kids menueWheelchair accessibility: Flat surface to get into it.“
“This place is a gem, it's not the cheapest restaurant in town but is one of the best value for money . They take pride in serving local organic food and will happily tweak dishes to suit your taste, allergies etc. We started with the quiche and a "bit of salad" which included mango, pomegranate, beetroot, peppers, avacado to name but a few. The result was amazing. My main course was strips of tuna served on asparagus with green beans and potatoes topped with a poached egg. I have stopped eating tuna in UK restaurants after some bad meals but this reminded me how good it can be. Being greedy we finished off with the famous chocolate brownie. Looking forward to the next meal there!“
“I love the place. Mexico Lindo steak fajitas are the best in town. The fajitas arrive at the table, steaming with big strips of steak lying on top of the veggies. Unlike most Mexican restaurants, where the streak is chopped into pieces mixed in with the veggies. Everything I have had on their menue is really good. In addition to steak fajitas, the steak burrito is terrific. They have the best salsa. The menue has the best bang for the buck. I highly recommend you give it a try. The only thing missing is fresh lemon as they only have limes.Parking: Depending on the time of day, the parking lot can be pretty full.Wheelchair accessibility: There are no steps to enter the building, and dining is all on one level. There are plenty of seating options with tables and chairs that should accomadeate a wheelchair based on my observations.“
“The food was decent, and the chips were white corn, not flour. Salsa was thickly based more like Campbell's soup, and I couldn't detect the cilantro flavor at all. I would have also liked more cheese sauce over the chimichanga. That said , the Dinner portion was huge , the chimichanga wide not long with a nicely marinated shredded chicken, and the rice was good, not dry or underflavored like so many. Though there were only 3 tables filled, my server 1 of 2 didn't really check on my drink or the food and was held up from delivering my dessert as he was in conversation with a patron at the bar. Oh, and I learned that I don't care for chocolate on my flan , but loads of great tasting whip cream abounded.“
