“Loreto lived up to my expectations in every aspect. Last minute they were able to accommodate an extra guest for our table, which was much appreciated! Our server (I forget her name, so sorry!) was so attentive and helpful; we had a gluten allergy and she was able to let us know on the spot which dishes had gluten and which didn't. We were coursed so well, with all of the ceviches and tostadas arriving first, followed by hot dishes. For a group of five, we ordered: -3 Oysters Preparado -yellowtail sashimi -Aguachiles Rojo -Leche de Tigre -Bay Scallop ceviche -Tostada a la Joaquin -Tostada Kondo -Tostada Bang Bang! -Camote Horneado -Mar-Esquites -Empanadas de Camaron -Albondigas de Camaron. My favorites of the night were the Aguachiles Rojo, Tostada Kondo and the Albondigas; however the shining star of the night was the Tostada a la Joaquin. The aquachiles was perfectly spicy and fresh with a lot of umami- I could eat 3 servings of this!! Tostada Kondo was also fresh and the scallops were so soft and buttery. The albondigas were an excellent hot dish to share and the green curry they were served in was flavorful and bright. The oysters and yellowtail to start were also excellent. The Tostada a la Joaquin was absolutely perfect; the otoro melted in your mouth and the yuzu vinaigrette was perfectly rich to compliment the tuna. Everyone was so impressed by this dish. The Leche de Tigre and Camote Horneado fell a bit flat for me, but were still enjoyable alongside the other dishes. We had a round of drinks; I ordered the Todos Santos Milkpunch and loved it. Everyone enjoyed their drinks as well! I took not one photo (which is rare for me) because the food and company was so good. We had so much fun here and will return so soon!!“

The mini sides of choclo (sweet corn), cancha (corn kernels), and sweet potato add so much texture and flavor to the overall dish. Definitely a must try! “A sleeper hit in Pasadena. I’m probably in the minority here but my staple dish to get at a desi place is the bhindi masala. The execution at Akbar is impeccable. Fat, fresh okra sautéed with the sweetest caramelized onions topped with crunchy roasted cumin and a splash of what I’m guessing is amchurs bright acidity to cut through the meticulously charred edges. The paneer makhani and coco lamb were also enjoyed by my more mainstream butter chicken craving compatriots. The sides are also worth a mention - the raita is a perfect companion to the coco lamb, and the garlic naan is so long you could fit the Mahabharata on it compared to the standard soft taco sized offerings of other establishments. Oh did I mention free parking next door at the Green Tree motel? My only regret is waiting 2 years to come here after passing by it so many times.“

We had the pork chops and salmon. In particular, we felt the meals were very tasty, well presented, and the carrot cake dessert was unique and simultaneously light and decadent. The service was also excellent. Our drinks were regularly filled, and someone was always checking in with us to make sure all of our needs were fulfilled. The only thing I would change is better signage for parking. It was unclear which parking lot was specific for the restaurant, and because the road is one way, we both, in our separate cars, ended up having to go all the way around the block before figuring out precisely where to go. I had to call for specific instructions, and the person with me called me for further instructions. Better signage outside, and also signage for precisely where to once you get out of your car, would be helpful. It's not the usual fatty pork you'd get from other chinese food places, but it's delicious either way. Less fatty, but still full of flavor. Portion is what you paid for. Spicy level is true to what spicy is all about. Will come again to try their mapo tofu and kungfu boiled beef since from this simple dish alone it does look promising.“
