“Tried it for the first time last week, and I have to say, it’s quite authentic. Delicious. Thinking about returning again today with my family. Ordered the string beans with beef the first time. Rice was perfect. Service was good. The coconut jello desserts was good and so was the iced lemon tea. This is Cantonese style food for the most part. Plenty of parking. Place is tucked away in a small plaza. Place is clean and modern.“

“They are known for their 譚仔阿姐 with her infamously quirky-accented Cantonese, and if you're expecting that, sorry! Service was nice though, just a little rough around the edges with some of the staff. Still not bad, and still professional.Food is decently priced, and not bad. Didn't disappoint at all! I'm glad I tried their house noodles they're famous for ?. The 魚蛋 (fish ball) is not shaped like a ball, more like they just scooped it and then made it in that shape without balling it up, but that's OK! Actually makes it easier to pick up with chopsticks ?. After finishing halfway through, I thought the toppings:noodle ratio was good, but was afraid the soup ratio to both might have been lacking. But really, the shape of the bowl is much deeper than you think. In the end, the Noodle:Topping:Broth ratio was actually PERFECT ?!My friend had the 雙拼湯麵 (Two-Topping Soup Noodles) with 雲吞 (Wonton) & 牛腩( Beef Plate), which is normally my go-to. He's not a thin noodles guy, but he thought it was flavorful. Plus, the noodles were springy!Their 蝦腸粉 (Shrimp Rice Rolls) looked a little messy, but was really good! Sauce was savory, slightly sweet, and the rice rolls themselves were really smooth! Wrinkly and folded up, yes, but it's the softest and smoothest I've had in a while.咖央西多士 (Kaya Toast) was interesting! If you're wondering what Kaya is, it's coconut jam. Admittedly though, the spread inside was a bit too thin for me. I would've liked a more liberal lathering of that Kaya. Otherwise, the cut of the thick bread ? all toasted up with egg batter around was OK. I wonder how it would've been if they soaked that bread in milk ahead of time though... ? Still worth ordering! Oh, and they bring out a thing of 蜜糖honey ? for it, but I'd rather pour the 煉奶 condensed milk over it, that's intended for the 奶茶 (milk tea).Which leads me to the segue into 奶茶. A little tame. Not heavy on the flavor. Really needed the condensed milk to give it some. But a good milk tea should have that nice Assam Tea smell to it. Although, not a lot of good milk tea places around the area, so what's given here is about par average.Parking: Parking used to be easy here, despite the weird design of the lot, which has more parking on the bottom. But then, the restaurant options got better, and holy mackerel! It got SUPER tight! Navigating here is no joke! People are trying to come in and out, you don't know whose coming from where, or how to fit.“

“Highly recommend Happy Morning. Met a couple of friends here for a nice family style dinner. The service was very quick and staff was very kind and welcoming. The place is tucked in a corner of the Vons plaza by Rite Aid, on the other end of the plaza to other eateries, popping yolk, four seas, boiling point. The food was nicely portioned, perfect for family style and everything was fresh and very delicious. The decor was modern and very clean. 5 adults and 2 toddlers left very full and satisfied with left overs to boot. We tried a variety of veggie, noodle soup, fried rice, half chicken and everything tasted great. Growing up in San Gabriel/alhambra this place reminded me of the spots I grew up eating at, now I have a great food spot not far from the house. Can't wait to come back!“

“Wah Sing Dim Sum, on San Gabriel Blvd., is just below Las Tunas Drive. The only time they've disappointed me is when I forget they're closed on Wednesdays. Other than that they make some of the yummiest dim sum around. They make my favorite charsiu.... chasu? chashu?? -- anyway, favorite bbq pork steamed bao here. I don't know what makes them so good. I think there's a hint of ginger in that filling. Their stir-fried noodles, $5.89 under the "Chef's Special" section, are also a steal. Their steamed sausage rolls are good as well. I've only ordered my food to-go. I've only seen diners inside one in a while although admittedly I usually stop in the early afternoon. The ladies behind the counter are no nonsense but sweet; they've thrown a sample my way once or twice. The wait for your food can be more than a few minutes, especially if that item you want isn't fully steamed yet, especially if they're busy, but the extra wait is worth it. They're a dim sum hole-in-the-corner of a strip mall dominated by a Good Fortune Supermarket, which means tons of parking. In fact, every single time I've been there, there's always another customer-- or several customers-- waiting to order, or waiting to receive their order. Speaking of ordering, they have the standard golf pencils (next to a bottle of hand sanitizer) for filling out the order form. There are also laminated menus with photos. Wah Sing is a dim sum dark horse that won't disappoint. Unless you go in a Wednesday“

“If you're looking for authentic Cantonese/Food off the beaten path (on the west side of HH) without having to compete with all the traffic (between Azusa Road and Nogales), check out Cocoin. It's run by a really cool couple. I'd say their food is definitely a strong 4 but their service and how nice they are bumps it up to a 5. There's plenty of seating inside. It's not huge but if you need tables for large parties of 8 to 10, they have those as well as smaller tables for parties of 4 or 6. There's plenty of parking outside. I've visited numerous times over the last few years and I'd say everything we've eaten so far from beef chow fun to hainan chicken hovers around 4 stars. Their hainan chicken is bone-in unlike Cluck 2 Go. Their portion size like their pork chop dishes (i.e ging do pai gwut) is a really good value (especially now a days) and their wok hay for their stir fries and chow fun is good. I particularly enjoy their herbal drinks which can vary from day to day.“

“Had dinner with my family last Friday and boy is this place fancy. We arrived around 5:30 and it was pretty empty. There are private rooms and apparently, that's the place to be because our server kept disappearing into those rooms with some amazing dishes of stir-fried clams, crab, and whatnot. But, back to my dinner: we ordered a sampler platter: bbq pork, duck and roast pork with cracklin' skin. The center portion was goma wakame seaweed salad, stir fried string beans with (very salty) minced pork; beef shortribs that were tasty, but kind of tasted like pork (it was definitely beef), fish filet with tender choy sum, seafood soup, and one other dish. If you want steamed fish, it will be market price (pricey, no surprise). Generally, the food was very flavorful and well executed, espcially the veggies and roast pork -- the string beans were the best! I would say some of their dishes are not what I'm used to from other Chinese restaurants flavor profile-wise (not that it's a bad thing), so I'll have to come back to try some of their seafood dishes. Service was pretty good. Our waiter was dressed up and wore gloves. The place has a hotel banquet hall vibe. Seems this place is popular for dimsum as I've heard, so I'll have to come back during the day and see how that goes. Will be back!“

“Haven't been back here since it's been sold from two owners ago. The switch to Shanghai cuisine is nice! I like the way the 馬蘭頭 (Indian Aster) was finely chopped. It's the smallest I've seen anywhere! The 油爆蝦 was cut down the middle to better let the oils get all the way in, making the skin really crisp! Their 外灘香酥鴨 ("Outer Beach" Crisp-Fried duck) was really good. It looked like it would have been dried out, but the juices stayed inside, and still maintained a crispy skin. The 蔥烤立魚 (Scallion-grilled Snapper) was alright, it featured a sweet-soy sort of taste, that smothered the entire fish with. The 紅燒肉 (Red-braised Pork) is pretty standard, but still good! Just make sure to be ready for the Heart attack! Then we topped it off with the 白果污泥甜湯 (Gingko + Tarot Puree Dessert Soup).Parking: Shared with the Tasty Choice. Be careful of parking at the back. No ginger dip provided because it's already mixed in.Beef offal has sweetbread (pancreas ) , tripe and stomach. Very good flavor and good sauce.Lamb hotpot is very good to excellent, miso dip will persuade people who don't like the lamby gamey to love it.Three are recommended, but similar could be available elsewhere :Stir fry pork liver has good temperature control resulting in good texture, but the sauce is a little heavy for my taste.Long beans with minced pork was good to fair.Hot pot rice was fair. Good flavor but I want more crispy burnt rice at the bottom.Only dish I don't recommend is the noodles in Peking sauce. The flavor was off, not what I expected. Also tried beef offal rice noodles soup. Good to very good. And the serving is huge. Best buy.The steamed egg white desert is fair to good. I probably judged this bowl unfairly as the memory of wontons in Hong Kong is still fresh in my mind last week, but the noodles itself is soft and doesn't have that springy wonton noodle texture. “Nestled in its modest space, Mr. Champion invites patrons to savor the essence of Cantonese cuisine with a menu that may be succinct but is rich in authentic flavors. The small size of the restaurant doesn't hinder its service; on the contrary, the staff's attentiveness adds to the overall dining experience.During our visit, we sampled the BBQ pork rice roll and the fried rice noodle with shredded pork. The culinary magic unfolded as each bite revealed a symphony of flavors, highlighting the skillful use of the wok, resulting in that coveted wok hei essence. The dishes were not only delicious but also a testament to the restaurant's dedication to maintaining the true spirit of Cantonese cooking. The rice rolls, while undoubtedly tasty, did leave us wanting more due to their petite portions. However, the quality of the ingredients and the expert execution compensated for the size. It's worth noting that Mr. Champion is an excellent choice for those seeking an authentic Cantonese breakfast or lunch experience. “Poached chicken (Hainan chicken 海南鸡) is at the best (9/10), most delicious I had in a while, as we always order it as an appetizer in Chinese restaurants. It’s hard to understand the greatness if you have not tried to perfect it as a home chef. Poached chicken is considered one of the most difficult. It needs to be tender, flavorful and juicy. The tenderness comes from the perfect timing in cooking which YouTube has lots of videos I am able to follow. However it’s hard to achieve the rich flavor of the poached chicken at home which requires (1) a rich soup where you repeatedly dipped and poached the chicken (2) sourcing the high quality free-ranged chicken while average home chefs like myself who buys the chicken from Asian market or a butcher in Chinatown. AND the most difficult and missing in most Chinese restaurants is the gelatinous juiciness. It’s a thin gelatinous texture layered between its meat and skin which is done by perfecting the cooling process. I believe most good Cantonese and Shanghainese chef knows how to achieve it but it’s too much of work to do it in most restaurants. I admit I have been little show-off my love and understanding of the poached chicken. But I am really amazed with what they have done here beyond my expectations. The set comes with the tasty chicken rice which is cooked with garlic/ shallots and chicken fat. It can also be order without the rice as one quarter ($12), half ($22) and as a whole ($32, which is little pricey, but definitely worth it as it is the best I had in US. Just a friendly reminder, their chicken is traditionally served with bones, following the customary Chinese presentation found in many Chinese restaurants. The second must have dish/ desert is their Coconut Custard/ pudding(椰子奶冻)in a whole coconut. It’s a first for us. We were surprised to discover it have tow layers, one clear and one milky. It is not so sweet with pleasant aroma of the coconut. As it is presented in a whole coconut makes it very unique and highly recommended. I ordered the takeaway of their ginger milk custard(姜汁撞奶)which is considered another signature sweet of theirs. The other dish we ordered with their French stir fry beef fillet(法式牛柳饭)with onion fried rice in red. It is very tasty. I have had them in some Vietnamese restaurants and couple fancy Chinese restaurants. The meat was tender and the taste were sweet and savory. We enjoyed it.Their house daily special soup is also very delicious to have. The one we had is pork soup with watercress and dry Chinese apricots(例汤:南北杏西洋菜瘦肉)which Cantonese Chinese believes it is good for internal balance of body wellness. The daily special soup(例汤)at most restaurants is cooked for hours. I hav seen they have coconut chicken soup on the menu and wish to order next trip there. We stepped in this pleasant surprise finding by chance. We were at the famous Taiwanese tea shop “Chi Cha San Chan” (8/10) next door. Since we were still full from an over ordered lunch in “Sushi GEN” (9/10 for its food only), we want something simple and comforting. However the menu is nothing simple as we have expected initially. Although it doesn’t have those expensive live sea food, it is a full extended menu with most of the traditional comforting food includes beef briskets noodles, pork wontons, beef stir fry rice noodles and most of the dishes you can find in an authentic Chinese restaurant. The boss lady is very nice speaks both mandarin and Cantonese. She reminds my of one the old TVB movie actress. I highly recommend this place as home chef and foodie.Vegetarian options: Large selection of vegetarian offerings. However, you needs to explain to the waitress while ordering without confusingKid-friendliness: The boss lady is friendly.“

Yinji Rice Noodle Roll Chinese • $$

“Specialty Chang Fun restaurant? Count me in! Their Chang fun had such amazing texture- it was thin but had that je ne sais quoi. It almost as good as the one in Flushing, NY but they have much more varieties of flavor here. I was expecting the typical umami sauce like at dim sum places so their milder sauce took me aback. I'm guessing it's because they want the ingredients to shine, which it really did. To order:They give you a menu picture, a pen, and a scratch paper. Each menu item has a number, which you write on the scratch paper and hand to the waiter to order. Got the:1) pork & shrimp Chang fun: 9/10- Delicious and lots of ingredients - shrimp was a great texture, I only wish it was a tad bit bigger2) The fish rice noodle was amazing: 10/10- the fish was very soft and tender and just falls apart in your chopsticks. - They also seasoned the fish really well with white pepper - would get again and again3) beef stew Chang fun: 8/10- looks like their beef stew is very popular because they have many items with beef stew and I watched him scoop some from a large vat 4) egg Chang fun: 8/10- great, I mean, It's eggs in rice noodle, what else is there to say?5) chicken Chang fun: 9/10- one word: scrumptious 6) Preserved egg and pork congee: 9/10- the theme of this restaurant has been amazing texture- and this congee had exemplary texture- it was perfectly thick and had lots of ingredients - it comes with some chopped veggies and cilantro- I only wish there was more cilantro - there's white pepper on the table if you want to add any Can't wait to come back again. They get a bonus in my book for playing 90's HK films on TV, lol.“
