“The chef Garry fixed my food I had curry goat first time I ever had boneless goat it was very flavorful. The service was ok, the waitress never checked on me but once because my drink was off and she made a new one.Parking: Had to find parking and the light to turn onto Main Street is a nightmare I sat there 10 min waiting for a turn finally just got out turning lane went down some blocks and over to come back up“
“I was craving Ackee and saltfish today and found this place online… I’m so glad I did… food was amazing, fresh and generous portions…and great/friendly service! I had the Ackee/saltfish with dumplings and the pineapple ginger and everything was really good! Can’t wait to go back!“
“The absolute best Jamaican food I've ever had!!! And I've tried several spots. This place hands down has the best flavors of all of them. I literally licked the plate! Lol! My favorite is the oxtail ???Everyone needs to try this place. You will be hooked and craving it all the time.“
“As soon as I got to LA this was the first meal I had and booooooy. The first bite made me dance. Great menu, lovely food, and the sorrel brought me back to life. I ordered through uber eats but on my next visit I'm coming in for all the yummy eats!❤“
“I had a good experience here. One side of the building is a health store where you can get all your black owned products such as black seed, toothpaste, walkers wood jerk seasoning, And other stuff you can’t find anywhere in other stores. Not size the restaurant where they have a plethora selection of smoothies, convenient drinks, and food on order. My favorite was the four options on Jamaican patties. For what they have there, their options are: shrimp and crab, spinach, chicken and jerk chicken (((spicy.)).“
“This is the spot!! Honestly, everything about it was 5 stars. We started off with their crab cakes and the featured mango ceviche; delicious, fast, and so fresh. The server walked us through the menu, including all of their featured specials of the day which all sounded amazing. I tried the mango mojito and the Brazilian mojito; the mango one was just a little sweet for my liking but still excellent and the Brazilian one was heavier on the lime flavor (less sweet) and I loved it! Next, we ordered the shrimp special of the day which came with a delicious rice pilaf, vegetable medley, and a shrimp and veggie large skewer in a delicious salsa verde, plus plantains. This dish was a great sized portion, definitely could share this between 2 people, and it was absolutely scrumptious. We also had the shrimp pizza, also great, and finally the coconut flan. I definitely recommend this spot to anyone and I will be back!“
“This is a new Jamaican resturant in the Mid City area. Very nice for dine in as well. Authentic cousin that makes you forget you're in LA. The ambiance was calm. Cool and had flat screens around for your viewing pleasure to catch a game or whatever.I tried the oxtail and baby let me tell you that they did not disappoint. The meat was seasoned to perfection. The gravy guicy packed with flavor. I mean I basically ate them with a fork now that should give you a clear example of how tender these oxtail were my friend. The rice and peas I mean you can't mess that up. And the cabbage was packed with flavors. One of its kind. I've had cabbage every which way but never like this. So delicious. Would definitely double up on that next time I visit. And please believe me there will be a next time.I can't go without mentioning the customer service from the boss man himself Bouka. Top tear quality. Attentive and made us feel like we were the most important guest in the establishment. Above and beyond service with offering samples because I found it difficult deciding what I wanted from the menu cause everything looked sooo good.Vegetarian options: SeveralVeggie plate.SpinachRasta pastaCabbage“
“I had to come and give a review, I ordered yuca fries & the oxtail bowl and let me just say, I am soooooooooooooo impressed. everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. fall off the bone meat. crispy and lightly salted yuca. I will definitely be coming back again. this flavor is a mix of soul food and caribbean cuisine together so it's not the most super authentic taste but none the less everything was so so so so good. wow.“
“This place is a local gem. I’ve heard about it but never came due to parking difficulties. Glad I did tho. Everything we ate was delicious! Sauce was spicy and tangy, chicken was juicy, everything was perfect. Will come again. Wish parking wasn’t so “
“we ordered togo here for a team lunch we were having near by- and it was ready just a few minutes early! which i was excited about! and they labeled all of our food and sauces so it was easy to distribute and it was all delicious!!! highly recommend“
“FOOD/DRINK: They make such a great cortado coffee, would definitely get it again. Also had two vegetarian arepas - black bean and cheese, and mushroom chorizo. The latter was my favorite, but both were delicious! These came out on the quicker side (maybe 5 minutes?), though I know can take up to 20 to make from the other reviews. Tasted flavorful and fresh, and were a great portion size for breakfast or a mid-day snack. They have a decent-sized breakfast and lunch menu (along with some pastries), plenty of vegetarian options, and fruit juices that looked really refreshing. AMBIENCE: I really enjoyed the ambiance here. I went on a weekday, so it wasn't super crowded. There's a few 2-4 seater tables, a larger window-facing table with comfy chairs, a ledge for those who want to park with a laptop, and some outdoor sidewalk seating. More of a casual vibe, very bright and airy and open. On a corner. There is street parking (up to 1 hour directly in front, and up to 2 hours a few blocks down on Ocean). That's my one qualm, is that it'd be hard to spend more than 2 hours here due to the parking situation. SERVICE: So friendly and kind.“
“Discovering Akee Bamboo Jamaican restaurant is like finding a hidden treasure that takes you straight to the heart of Jamaica with its authentic fast casual dining experience. The moment you step into Akee Bamboo, you're greeted with vibrant Jamaican vibes, from the colorful décor that echoes the island's spirited culture to the warm, welcoming smile of the cashier, Lauren. The star of the menu has to be the generous Jerk Chicken plate, a dish that truly captures the essence of traditional Jamaican cuisine. The chicken is succulent on the inside with a flavor-packed exterior that leaves you craving more. Served alongside a good helping of rice and beans, fresh, tasty cabbage salad, and sweet fried plantains, each bite is a symphony of flavors that perfectly balances heat, sweet, and savory notes.Whether you're a longtime lover of Jamaican cuisine or a curious foodie (like me) looking to explore new flavors, the Jerk Chicken plate at Akee Bamboo is a must-try. It's no wonder this gem is beloved by locals and visitors alike. So the next time you're in the mood for some delicious Jamaican fare, let Akee Bamboo be your go-to destination.“
“Wanda at the cashier was so nice to me today. I was coming from eye surgery and she pleasantly read off the menu for me. Also hooked me up with a scotch bonnet. The red peas soup with chicken foot was the best I've had, and the oxtail was delicious. Good portions, and that oxtail gravy will make your mouth water. Only minor quible is the plantain could have been sweeter/ riper. While they don't serve pork here, check it out anyway. The chef knows what he's doing!“
“This place is a hidden gem ? I had the goat meat plate everything was delicious from the cabbage to the peas and rice. I also went to the market connected to the restaurant and bought some Oxtails that comes seasoned or none seasoned. Loved it! I am a forever customer, Thanks ?“
“Only have had breakfast here (i wish places skimp on the white rice.) Eggs with vegs, rice, plantains n fryjacks. The fryjacks are amazing, i left with extra to take home & they were still amazing 2 days later.Vegetarian options: Options available with no meat“
“Very beautiful restaurant. Lovely fragrance of the tropics upon entry. It has a Belizean ambience all on its on. Clean and very dignified. The gentleman taking the orders makes you feel cherished and welcomed. He makes his customers feel at home with his hospitable mannerisms. The cook who remains to be seen is the talent that brings you back. I must admit I didn't like the fact that the table menus weren't updated. A friend of mine who introduced me to this establishment were under the impression they were, only to get to the register to find out certain items had gone up. That can be very misleading. We went with the dinner plate that consist of your choice of stew beans and rice or rice and beans, white or dark meat stew chicken, potato salad and plantain. This dinner plate takes your taste buds to Belize. We also decided to order a chicken tamale. It had an awesome taste but it was a little too moist. I'm not sure if due to the temperature it caused the tamale to fall apart but I'll give it another try on my next visit. This no photo was provided of the tamale. Parking is easy to find if they're not too crowded and the prices are reasonable for the amount of food that you receive. Some items are made at a certain time. So pay closer attention to those. I'll definitely be back. I'm thinking more like tomorrow!!!“
“Despite being a Cuban food restaurant, the place immediately transports you to any other Latin city, (Caracas, Santo Domingo, San José....) it is a place with typical Cuban food, the decoration is not exquisite at all, a Informal atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable, super excellent service, super good food, it has parking. I tried meat sandwich and fried Maduro, also a delicious soursop smoothie, excellent. Others ordered Ropa Vieja Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, empanadas and suckling pig. All very pleased with our choices. The photo I published shows my bite of the Sandwich as proof of tasting. Recommended.“
“I've been indulging on Shabazz's bean pies for years. Rosalie's Caribbean Cuisine has the famous Shabazz bean pies. I had to buy a few of them, so I did ( dint judge me). I did share with my family as much as I could. Anybody that has never tried a bean pie ever in their life, should try Shabazz bean pies first and foremost, you will not be disappointed! Let me know what you think. I promise it's delicious.“
“The food was just delicious. We ordered Oxtail, cow foot soup, the sampler plate that has salbutes, panades, garnaches, and tostados and had a slice of milk cake . Everything was very good, the portion sizes were great. Will definitely be returning.“
“I use to live up the street from the restaurant off of Brett Street. Every Friday I’d treat myself to a plate of brown stew chicken and two on payday Fridays. I’m now living in Ohio, and I I’ve thought about your food more than a 1000 times in the past two years. Your food is not just good. It’s the best I’ve ever had.“
“Probably some of the best food on Slauson Ave hands down. Got blessed and had the opportunity to meet the owner himself, big shout out to the chef himself he knows what he's doing in the kitchen! Highly recommended, the perfect spot to grab something to eat and visit Nipsey's Memorial.“
“You can always expect yummy for your tummy. I appreciate the portions that are served compared to other places. Great customer service and you can definitely feel the friendly energy exchange amongst all that enters there establishment. The price is fair, like I said 2 can eat from one plate. I definitely say try it cause you will enjoy it???“
“This is the best Belizean restaurant we’ve had! Being married to a Belizean from Belize he is hyper critical of his food. He loved everything we got! The service is fantastic, the girl that was serving us was attentive, kind, and very personable. The restaurant is very clean! I must say the stew beans (chefs kiss) soooo good!“
“The aroma when u step in would keep u in looking at the foods.Trying the chicken patty before eating food that's like appetizers. Then I recommend jerk chicken, curry goat yea with riceDamn it's goodThere are other meals tooCurry chicken ,Oxtail too“
“Great experience overall. I ordered pinot grigio to drink and hubby had a Negra Modelo beer. Had a small hiccup with my first wine order but the server fixed it at once!Meals are in the pic.We definitely took leftovers! Tasty and nice environment. Certainly recommend.“
“The food was great. The host was pleasant. The vibe was awesome. My husband has missed Trini food from back home (Brooklyn, NY.) We traveled far away to this spot, and it was well worth it. The chicken roti, dblz and potato roti were all to my husbands liking. We'll definitely take another trip west for this cuisine.“
“Delicious, cheap Cuban food, the last business of what was once Little Havana. Close to Silverlake and Echo Park, but tucked away in much less curb-appealed HiFi. That means the prices are low and there's nothing trendy about it. But it also means less atmosphere than Tropical, say. Most customers are Spanish-speakers, and it's good to have some of the language when ordering. The coconut flan was especially delicious! Ropa Vieja and Medianoche too. Half a point off for the tv screen menu (can we just have it written down?) and the fluorescent lights, but otherwise, a perfect hidden gem.“
“Chef Bensford's food is delicious! I highly recommend The Island Kitchen. My wife and I have ordered for ourselves and I have catered with him for a short film project. Positive experiences both times. His food is authentic, intentional, and tasty. The oxtails! Oh my.“
