“a true gem. there are no frills here and the sushi speaks for itself. I have never had to wait for a table and the service is direct, and courteous. they provide incredible ginger that they will refill throughout your meal, so go crazy, it’s addictive. and the wasabi. freshly grated, sweet, fluffy, this is the real deal.
my favorites are the sweet shrimp, the uni served with hokkaido and santa barbara side by side, the halibut, and red snapper. but it’s all very very good.
every time i am seated, the waiter reminds me, no special roll, no california roll, and I couldn’t be happier.“

“DELICIOUS!! My hubby and I decided to pop in on a whim and we’re so glad we did! Our server Mark was sooo attentive and had delicious recommendations. The yuzu albacore and spicy scallop hand rolls were so fresh and stood out. Chef Joab made every roll and nigiri we ordered to perfection and was very friendly, making the experience memorable! Honestly, even the host and other staff were kind/welcoming throughout the eve. We will definitely return!“

“Mori Teppan Grill is one of those mom-and-pop gems you just have to experience. The walls are covered in photos and history, with legends like Muhammad Ali among them.
What makes it truly special is Mori himself…he greets almost everyone personally, and his care for the food and customer experience hasn’t changed over the years. The food quality is consistently excellent and the atmosphere is really welcoming. 5/5.“

“I visited this restaurant today, and I was really impressed! Under the new management, the manager, staff, and sushi chefs were all kind, attentive, and provided excellent service. The restaurant has been newly renovated -- it looks beautiful, clean, and very comfortable.
I went there to celebrate my birthday with my family, and it turned out to be an unforgettable afternoon filled with wonderful surprises. I truly appreciated the warm hospitality and attention to detail. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and an exceptional dining experience!“

“I have enjoyed yakis to varying degrees for many years. It's been a staple and usually the food is fairly good. Thier teriyaki sauce is what takes it to a better place. If you like spicy, you can also try thier Bravo sauce which has a spicy cilantro kick to it. I enjoy my bowl with a scoop of thier potato salad. Also, if you want a little something sweet, the yakisito fits the bill. It's tapioca pudding in a egg roll wrapper.I only ever take my food to go, as the shop itself is not so comfy. Also service can be a bit off at times, especially if they're busy and English communication can occasionally be an issue. Overall though, give it a try
if you want some pretty good teriyaki in our area.“

“We came in for lunch at Kopan Sushi and had an amazing time — mostly thanks to Chris, our server. He was on it from the moment we sat down — super friendly, fast, and genuinely cared about making everything perfect. The food was great, but honestly, Chris made the experience. Give that man a raise, a bonus, and maybe his own sushi roll.
Now… about the music. Why does it sound like we’re riding an elevator to nowhere? 😂 It’s pure elevator music energy in there — not exactly what you expect when you’re eating spicy tuna rolls. But hey, at least it gave us something to laugh about between bites.
We’ll definitely be back — just maybe hoping the playlist goes as hard as Chris does at his job!“

“I loved the food! Everything was served so quickly, and the staff was fabulous. I especially liked the waitress named Sunny. Even though it was my first time there, she was very kind, asked me how my day was, and even brought me a glass of ice water with lime. I highly recommend this place!“

“Music was horrible with cussing. when there was a kid in the restaurant. And they didn't notice that there was a kid in the restaurant and did nothing about it. And just played cussing music.
Kid-friendliness: No, had cussing music“

“Blue Fish Japanese Sushi – Where the Mountains Meet the Roll
Montrose feels like a town time forgot - in the best way. Tucked beneath the shadow of the Verdugo Mountains, the main strip holds onto something rare: a rhythm that hasn’t been rushed. There’s a sense of place here. A walk down Honolulu Avenue is part small-town Americana, part hidden food haven.
And in the middle of it all sits Blue Fish Japanese Sushi - a spot that doesn’t scream for your attention but earns it bite by bite.
Start with the spicy tuna on crispy rice. No frills, no flash - just flavor done right. The edamame is fresh, the vegetable tempura hits that perfect light crunch, and the rolls? However you choose to roll, they’ll deliver.
There’s a seasonality to the experience here - not in the menu, but in the way it makes you feel. A quiet kind of comfort, a reminder that good food doesn’t always need a spotlight. Sometimes, it just needs a seat at the sushi bar and a view of the mountains.
Bluefish is a must - not just in Montrose, but for anyone chasing the soul of a place through its food.“

“I grew up in Glendale so I known Mitzee’s for at least 15-20 years!! Your Chef AKA ( your cook ) has been there if not mistaken the same amount of time. Food taste and presentation has been the same since the first time I had it, their hot sauce it’s AMAZING! if you love spicy, if you don’t have high tolerance for spicy stay away or have just a little lol. I know leave in Downtown and when passing by Glendale I make it a stop…“

“I heard about this place from theskedge.com so I decided to check it out! I judge sushi place by its Spicy Tuna roll because it is simple to make and one of my favorites. No, like I order it everywhere I go. This restaurant had one of my favorite spicy tunas in LA. Fantastic job. Other rolls were great as well :)“

“Joon Shabu Restaurant is a hidden gem! Their lunch special is an amazing value, offering high-quality ingredients at an affordable price. We opted for the Large lunch combo. The service is top-notch - our server was attentive and friendly.
The meat is sliced thinly to perfection, and the variety of options is great. We loved being able to customize the broth to our taste, which added to the overall experience. The restaurant has plenty of seating, making it easy to get a table even on busy days.
Overall, Joon Shabu Restaurant is a must-try for Shabu lovers. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and generous portions makes it a standout in the area. We'll definitely be back!“
