“I recently visited Happy Valley Village in Sanlitun, and I had an amazing experience! The atmosphere is both cozy and stylish, making it perfect for a catch-up with friends or a casual date. There’s a great variety of restaurants and cafes, each with its own unique vibe, and the food quality is excellent—definitely satisfying.

The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready to help, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. The location is very convenient, with easy access to nearby areas, so you can easily explore Sanlitun after your visit. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed and enjoyable dining or hangout spot!”

I had the beef rice noodle rolls and salted pork congee, and both were absolutely delicious—the rice rolls were soft and chewy, with tender beef and just the right amount of sauce, while the congee was smooth, savory, and deeply satisfying. The portion sizes are generous, and everything tasted fresh and authentic. The vibe is cozy and clean, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. “AKASAKA. WOW. I was on set and got hungry so me & G3 went to the sushi joint that’s literally tucked away and VERY IYKYK (if you know, you know). All I gotta say is that the Yellowtail Cut Roll got me dancing. The hospitality was great, we were given Iced Green Teas on the house because we were waiting for our to go orders. I gotta dine inside soon & get the real experience.

Seating is very limited and the menu gives off a bit of a dated feel but you really can't argue the classics when they're done well.

Sushi rice had just a bit of tang and was light and fluffy.

Dishes were presented very well and our server was thoughtful and cautious enough to make sure our table wasn't overflowing. We ordered about 6 items and by the 3rd plate things were crowding up.

Blue crab avocado roll ($9) - A little heavy on the Japanese mayo and rice but it made for a great presentation on the plate it was on.

Tempura mixed ($9) - 3 pieces of shrimp and 3 pieces of veggies. I'm on the fence with this one since I really enjoyed the presentation but felt like the batter on the shrimp was heavy and the veggies were mostly extra starchy items.

Mini spicy tuna bowl ($9) - This was a pleasant favorite! Just the right amount of heat and a decent amount of tuna over that delicious sushi rice. The first couple of bites where the cold tuna contradicts the warm rice was like being able to eat that feeling of walking on the warm sand and letting the chilly ocean water cool you off.

Amberjack/Hamachi Tuna ($5/piece) - This was interestingly a lighter flavor than what we were familiar with. The cut was thin but blanketed the rice with just a small swipe of sauce and a dab of yuzu paste on top. Playing perfectly well with the tangy rice but also all being a star of the bite while being clean.

Grilled Tuna Belly ($12) - This was the star of the table. Lightly grilled with a bit of crispy edges, seasoned and topped with garlic and micro greens and paired with a dipping sauce on the side to choose how heavy or light you prefer to dip.

Tempura Ice cream ($7) - Couldn't leave our first visit without trying a dessert item. Classic fried ice cream that is wrapped with pound cake and rolled in their delicious tempura batter. Saving room for this is a must if you grew up demolishing these in the early 2000s.

Hidden gems are great to find and it feels like this place has a lot of classics that give you a homey feel where you don't know where to start. Just dive in and make sure you mark off the ones you've tried because there are a good amount of dishes that were of value and quality here.

The best suggestion is to focus on the sushi and always check the sushi list.”

“This is the best rice noodle I have eaten in the United States. The ones in the Bay Area are not as delicious as this one. The crispy skin is super fragrant. The rice noodles are extremely soft but not chewy. The other noodles are either hard or broken. I will go there again before returning to the Bay Area. once”

“Very good atmosphere, many bread selections including drinks and cake, and is packed on weekend. Wait line to purchase items is usually short maybe 5-10min. But overall, very good place.”

“This place was referred to me by a co-worker, since I don’t know the area very well. What a great referral the pizza is like you build it how you want, but with an old skool pizzeria. It isn’t like Pieology. They have canned soda drinks, or two liter bottle soda, no alcohol. Vito the guy who made my pizza to perfection was telling me they have a really good Sunday BBQ from ribs, Tri-tip, 1/2 chicken, etc. They are only open in the evening hours, and the pizza is good size portion. Their small is the size of most mediums at other places. I highly recommend this place. A little more in price, but well worth the fresh ingredients and they won’t take tips.”

“Soooo good for authentic Cantonese food! My favorite dishes were the XO sauce rice rolls and the beef brisket noodle soup. The rice rolls were soft in the inside with a slight crispiness from being pan-fried. The beef brisket was tender and the broth had great flavor. Ok and their CHILI OIL. Excellent. I think they make it in-house. It has a nice, roasted chili pepper flavor and definitely packs a punch.

The service was amazing. We called in advance for a party of 7 and they had our table ready right when we walked in. We were treated so kindly by the servers and the food came out quickly. Note that it does take longer for the rice pots and the rice rolls to come out.

Ambience was lively but comfortable. Good for a party of 2 or 12. You can bet I’ll be here the next time my family and I are craving some Cantonese food.”

“I love coming here and it's very close to my house, reminds me of my grandma baking growing up. They make great tamales as well with lots of meat, very delicious. Their sweet bread are great a big variety to choose from. They open at 5am you won't be sorry if you stopped by and bought some thing to have with your coffee in the morning.”

“We had a 10-people reunion gathering and it was a perfect excuse for us to enjoy this authentic and delicious Shanghainese restaurant.

All of the dishes we ordered were perfectly made, and we enjoyed everything (there were a couple of vegetarians in the group so we ordered 3 vegetable dishes which was great.

The overwhelming favorites were: the special Grilled beef short ribs ($48 so count it as 2 dishes), celery with Lily, and SH braised pork.

The service was prompt, but we got the sense they didn’t prefer us to stay too long and catch up after we were done with our meal.”

The broth was rich and flavorful without being too spicy — absolutely delicious 🤤. While the service isn’t super fast, it’s definitely worth the wait. Their homemade horchata and Spanish latte are some of the best I’ve ever had 😋. And don’t miss the 99¢ tacos — they’re packed with flavor and such a great deal!”

“This restaurant is really delicious! ! It's not a cheap and large-volume route, but a very high-quality Sichuan cuisine. The ingredients are rich and fresh, and the taste is spicy. You can feel that the boss is pursuing the food! The service is also very good! Only one of its kind in Los Angeles! “Classic looking dim sum place with chaotic service.

Dim sum dishes start at $5 and can increase to $9 really quickly if you're not careful of the size chart they point out at the top of the menu.

Be aggressive with getting attention from staff and make sure you're asking for everything in one shot. This will either work in your favor or you will have to find someone else to bring you what the other forgot about.

Nothing entirely wrong if you're not familiar with that kind of dining experience but definitely bring someone that isn't anxious about acting like you're at a hole in the wall.

All that to point out that the aesthetics outplay the service. It's still a very old school style restaurant.

As of Aug 2024 your best value dish to order for 2-3 people will be the 22.99 lobster special. It's about 2 pounds of lobster with options for sauce and noodles.

Overall, dishes were good and they try to crank out the siu mai as quickly as they can before running out but if you're waiting a bit for it then it just means you're getting one fresh off the steamer.”

Taiwanese fried chicken is very famous for its crispiness. We loved the J&G ones!!! Special mention for the “King Oyster Mushroom” ??????”
