“The friendliest staff in the city work here. Also, a killer cocktail menu and the food was superb, we had a proper Guinness with a beef stew and fresh soda bread and it was absolutely delicious, one of our favorite date night spots in the city!“

“Got a great parking spot across the street in front of Now Valley Bakery, which is not always the case on 24th Street. We were meeting friends there in the back outdoor area. TVs at every booth and you just ask the server to change the channel - we wanted to see the Giants. Midday beers on St Patrick’s Day weekend and it was lovely out. Lots of locals go there, so we saw a few friends. Service was great and I was introduced to the Black Velvet: Prosecco and Guinness! Sounds kind of awful but it was great. Our server was Shanna and she’s so much fun and works hard. Took great care of us!“
“This is my go-to spot in the Castro for a well crafted cocktail, good conversations and fun. I always end up meeting with and talking to so many random people. And the fact that I can order a Paper Plane, Naked and Famous, Aviation, or a Last Word with the bartenders not blinking in confusion is priceless - CJ in particular is the BEST.Bonus points for the content on their TVs where you never know what random movie on DVD will be playing from Death Becomes Her to Rat Race to random horror flicks.“

“I've had the good fortune of experiencing The Napper Tandy both as a patron as well as a music performer. As a patron, I can tell you that the food here is the BEST pub food you will ever find (I particularly recommend the reuben - the best I've ever had, hands down!)! As a performer, the staff as well as the crowd have always been extremely friendly, accommodating, and inviting. There's just something about the vibe of this place that seems to make people happy! The managers, Marissa and Nicola, are are absolute gems of human beings and their staff reflect their personal awesomeness! I'm looking forward to my next meal as well as my next show at The Napper Tandy. Hope to see ya there!“

“Taking the N-Judah out to Ocean Beach, I find myself walking south on the paved walkway along the Great Highway trying to avoid zealous joggers and bicyclists. Not easy given how rude some people like to get. By the time I get to Taraval, I'm ready to make a left and head back into the city. However, before I set off on my journey back, I sometimes make the very first stop available right here. But only after 3PM because that's when they open. It's a surprisingly large space for a tavern, but the wood paneling, brick fireplace sometimes with a roaring fire, and overall old timey vibe make it feel cozier. I'm usually on the early side, so it was just me and the lone bartender. I've ordered the $12 Mama P's Shaken Pina Colada which always surprises me to see a tiki drink way out on the edge of the Sunset (photo: It's a mix of Malibu coconut rum, cream, and pineapple juice shaken and served over ice. Simple but quite tasty even on a brisk day. Recently I took advantage of their holiday menu and ordered the reassuring $12 Nutty Hot Chocolate with Baileys and Frangelico (photo: My one takeaway here is that it's definitely a locals' hangout, so when they trickled in, I felt very much the outsider. If I came later for an event, I would think that might offset that isolated feeling. DRINKS - 4 stars...not the best tiki cocktail I've had but I like that they make it AMBIANCE - 4 stars...cozy, vintage feel offset by the exclusivity vibe from the regulars SERVICE - 4.5 stars...the bartender is always cordial TOTAL - 4 stars...a nice find way out west RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? “Best damn brewery in SF. This place had a cozy neighborhood feel while being friendly and welcoming to guests from all over. The brewer has decades of experience and has pioneered a true onsite microbrewery atmosphere with a dynamic tap list and simple yet tasty food menu. Perfect for after work drinks or grabbing a 4 pack of freshly made cans to go!“

“Food was amazing such a great staff. We split the Lamb Burger and Monk's Burger both had their own unique flavors which complemented them in their own way. The ambiance is always warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the neighborhood. Huge shout out to Lomo for always taking care of us and making us feel like family.“
“lovely bartenders, strong drinks, dog friendly, great ambience, ample seating. clearly a place regulars love and newcomers are welcome in. don't take your drinks outside the door, that is a dumb move that I did. high recommend drinking the drinks inside of the bar though.“

“I've been a Shotwells customer for over a decade. They have a great selection of beer, a pool table, a conversational atmosphere, and great bartenders and regulars. If you live in the neighborhood, you owe it to yourself to stop by, enjoy a pint, a good conversation, and on a sunny day, be sure to sit outside in their beautiful parklet.“
“Well first off if you're going there for food, you're not gonna be satisfied they might have some chips but that's not why you come here. You come here simply for the atmosphere and the great prices on drinks and mind you this is cash only. They do have an ATM there and there are several ATM areas there in the area like a chase bank in a Wells Fargo. Please come in prepared don't order your drink and expect them Lady at the bar to hold your drink for you forever. They didn't have a live band or anything they did have a jukebox on the wall and the place got pretty crowded and it's in a well lit area very safe area. The day I saw what look like 28 year-old girls walking down the street by themselves without an adult that is a safe neighborhood. So many Uber drivers dropping people off and picking people up like I said the area is very charming. It's very small, but very nice. I would suggest having the espresso martinis.“
“It was a nice place, they have different of beers selection and nice alcohol drinks.Nice neighborhood bar for a busy day and kind of get a nice drink in good pricesWe got some food and it was all right, I will say food it’s not the strongest but if you’re hungry then grab a bit it’s okay. The service was good the guy was always making sure everything was all right with us.Adding photos!!Hope this help“

“Great spot. The bartenders and regulars are always nice, it's never terribly packed without being totally empty, they bring in vendors to do free tastings of liquors, allow dogs and outside food, and it's got a cool almost saloon-like vibe to it. They have a decent selection of beers and of cocktails. I'd specifically recommend their old fashioned because they do them well.“

“A group of us go for trivia on Wednesdays and we love the vibe! The trivia is a great mix of difficult and doable questions which makes it fun. The staff is friendly, the owner came up and introduced himself the first time we went in and now stops by to our table to say hi. They have a little kitchen that they rent out (I think) and the food that they serve is yummy! not sure if they've changed the menu since I was last in, but they didn't have chicken as a meat for the tacos which was a bummer since I don't eat red meat/pork.“
“My husband and I met at Blackthorn at Blackthorn 8 years ago. I've had many happy memories including new years, world cups, and other great moments in my life. It would be detrimental to the SF community if this bar closed, and I WILL NOT come back if a new bar opens. McGrath, do the right thing and let Blackthorn have that space!!!!“
