I know that sushi in the Bay Area has a good rep… But I was certainly not expecting the quality that I got here tonight. I basically ordered off of the specials menu after I started with the SB Uni. Ama Ebi to Otoro, and everything was melt in your mouth fresh and delicious. If I could do it over again, I would have definitely gone with the Omakase because these sushi chefs will not disappoint!”

“I have lived in San Bruno 30 years. And just the other day discovered "Big Joe's" restaurant at 487 San Mateo Ave. Apparently, they have been there forever. What an amazing culinary discovery ! Tucked away among the local stores is this inconspicuous gem. American cuisine at is very best. Portions are generous. Quality is five stars. Try their burgers and steaks ! Breakfast OMG. The open kitchen is another plus. Service and cleanliness is top notch too. don't let the unexciting appearance discourage you. This place is 5 stars.”

“I am from SoCal, so I tend to compare it to my local restaurants. With that said, it is definitely good but definitely not 45 mins to 1 hr wait for the food. I can get the same @ Pepe in SoCal in 10 mins or less. That would be my only complaint. The food is definitely delicious.If you are in a hurry, you will be disappointed with the long wait. Their asada was really good.Basically no parking except street parking and that was limited.”

“Hello...I had the opportunity to stay overnight in San Bruno before heading to Austin, TX. My sister and I decided to walk to Roma Deli for our dinner. I probably was a pain to the gentleman taking my order...sorry...just very picky about my sandwiches. People...without a doubt, this sandwich was the BEST sandwich I have ever had in my life. My wife found this restaurant via Google and we decided to visit because of the good reviews and proximity to our Airbnb. We were not sure what to expect as this restaurant was so close to airport and there were many open tables. We had an excellent experience!!! The food and wine were top tier as well as the service. For entrees we had rack of lamb and the linguine lobster. The food was perfectly prepared and of extremely high quality. Towards the end of the meal we go into a discussion with the owner on wineries to visit in Napa/Sonoma. We were both very passionate about wine and at the end she comp’d us a bottle of very expensive wine from her favorite winery. Don’t hesitate to try JC Bruno- you will love it.”

“This is just a review/request to their new added delivery/pickup app options for Grubhub and Ubereats, etc. Please update to split out the three side choices for the plates as I like to get the same sides and add on a smaller side options. Tried ordering it the way in the apps and even calling, but they always mess up the order, so would be easier for the workers to get a straightforward receipt with it clearly listed out instead of hoping they take the time to read my notes????”

“We always choose Big Mouth when we're craving burgers! Their menu is so big, everyone will find something they like. I usually choose the salmon burger and I'm never disappointed. I also learned you can put the beyond patty in any burger if you're looking to have a vegetarian option. We also love their onion rings. The service is usually quick, but be patient if they're super busy. They're super friendly and whether you're eating in or taking it home, the quality never changes. The place is a bit small because, however, there's outdoor seating to enjoy on sunny days.”

“Had beef ribs at Tony Romo's, Lucille's, and many other joints. The beef ribs here are absolute fire and these best I've ever had. Mae is sweet and might take her time, but her product is superior. Only downside is she uses many different alcoholic spirits in her sauces and sometimes her dishes. If you have sensitivity to that just let her know. Mae hails from an old SF family so her craft is authentic to the Bay.”

However, the cuisine at Taqueria mi Durango has undoubtedly surpassed those expectations and stands out as one of the most authentic Mexican food experiences I have encountered in the United States.The portions at this establishment are generous, and the flavors and textures are truly outstanding. “Very good tasting pate a choux cream puffs can be found here. I have made these beautiful pate a choux with a professional in Paris during my 30 days stay to explore baking in France year 2020. This place have good tasting and good quality pate a choux. Staffs friendly and helpful. Not a huge store and not many tables or chairs inside these days. It is certainly unique since there's not much like it around here. Definitely give them a try. For around $5-$6 each, you'll find something for your tastebuds if you have the appetite for it. Delicious. Got the oreo one and a mango cream one. Strawberry looks tempting too. Huge and fulfilling pieces. Beautiful work of pastry art. Although it's a very small shop, there's actually a beautiful and cute backdrop on the wall in back. People would enjoy taking selfies there. Highly recommended for sweet treats. I just wish there would be more tables and chairs to sit inside. Takeout is not bad, but I do enjoy eating these cream puffs fresh while still inside the store. Be your own judge.”

“I love this place. Every time I come here they are so friendly. And their food is truly the best. A fusion of Thai, and Chinese cuisine. My favorite dish is the butter garlic crab with french fries. If you order it with a side of garlic noodles it's truly amazing. Their spicy Fried rice has chicken and shrimp in it and is actually very original in taste. Stephanie and Allie have always treated me well. This place is a gathering point of this particular community and most importantly, it's open very late. When everyone else is closed, this is the place you go to for gourmet food when you don't want to have a slice of pizza or fast food. I have met so many good acquaintances here. And this is where I bring guests that are flying in from out of town first. They are right next to the airport......”

“The most authentic Peking duck I’ve had in the U.S. The duck is baked per order. So if you didn’t make reservations for the duck, you will have to wait for an hour for it to be ready. The duck is served on a plate with little candle underneath it, in order to keep it warm.The duck skin is must try. It is so crispy and tasty. The best way to have the skin is to dip it in the sugar and eat it right away.Hawthorn (not always available) is a great addition to add another layer to the overall taste. You put the duck in the spring pancake, together with cucumber slices, green onions, hawthorn slices, and some sweet bean sauce. It makes a perfect Peking duck roll!!!Highly recommend this place for people who loves Chinese food and Peking duck!!”

“Arrived by car 30 minutes before closing. We had a parking spot right in front of the taco truck on the street. I found this place searching Google seafood restaurants near me! It was to my surprise that it was a taco truck! No worries, we ordered the tacos dorados. They come in a plate of four for $14. They had avocado and the best tasting shrimp combined with the crunch of the taco shell! So good. Came with red salsa that turned up the heat. The tacos were like the kind of food that you keep eating even though you are full!! I felt great after four, but honestly could have had another four! There are plastic chairs to sit down, but it's way better to take the food to go. I'm glad Google suggested this place, perhaps it was the best seafood near me!”

“I have been going past this place for long time, next to the pizza place and several Japanese joints all serving sushi? Anyway I had to pick up my son at therapy, so I was a quick 25 yards away. I have been looking over the menu for quite a time, they have a solid base not overly fancy but lots of choices. Came in and the place had some other person picking up an order, my order was quickly taken , before someone else made another take out order, pretty popular place for a Monday evening. As I waited for my food I noticed the the staff on the back looked really efficient and were cranking out food orders really fast. I went to pick up my son because I was cutting it close, but when I got him and walked back my order was waiting for me. It was delicious smelling all the way home. The food tasted fantastic, no complaining here, the beef chow fun was surprisingly light and delicious. We also had the salt and pepper pork chops. Makes my mouth water just thinking about how crispy and savory tasting these are. Got a good value for your money. I'm coming back and trying more on the menu. So don't blink you'll miss the place but it's worth finding it.”

“I never thought I'd be giving a restaurant that has lower than 3.5 stars a chance and what is even more shocking is that I came away so impressed that I'm giving Sushi House 5 stars. The food, customer service, value, and cleanliness took me by surprise. When a restaurant has been open for a decade I'm sure there are some down points in their life, but I can at least say at this moment they are definitely better than how they used to be in my perspective. I was impressed with how clean the inside is too. Even the soy sauce bottles are wiped and spotless. Customer service is quite friendly too and this is a Chinese owned restaurant. Inflation is real when I see old reviews talk about the great deal the $8.99 Bentos are from a decade ago. Now the Happy Bento Box here costs $16.95 and I consider that a bargain in this day and age considering almost every Japanese restaurant is charging over $20 for their Bentos when some charge that price for only two options. I ordered the standard Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, and California Roll. It's as safe as it gets. The Beef Teriyaki is the only item that is extra charge being $2 more, but I have no complaints if it is good and surely enough it was a real tender piece of beef. Perfectly medium rare and not overcooked to medium like some psychos like it. The Chicken Teriyaki is also very tender. The Teriyaki sauce they use here is honestly pretty good too. Not overly sweet and doesn't take away from the savory flavors. The California Roll also tastes like a standard California Roll. Can't go wrong with that imitation crab goodness. The side salad let's pretend doesn't exist. The miso soup that comes with the bento was piping hot which was perfect. Had the right amount of seaweed and tofu. I also yoinked a tempura from someone else and it was really crispy and the batter wasn't too thick. I also stole a sashimi and it was surprisingly pretty fresh too. Definitely great options for the bento. Also any Japanese restaurant like this one that serves hot tea for free gets bonus points from me. Some places like to charge $2-$3 for some mediocre teabag teas and I just opt for water instead usually. I'd say the 2024 version of Sushi House is at least better than 3.3 stars and I'd be happy with coming back again.”

Despite no heat, taste was very good - noodles were perfectly cooked, veggies were bursting with crunch and taste and pork was done well too and did I mention not spicy!! I also ordered the shrimp pork dumplings- spectacularly fresh! The place was packed on the night I dined in - indicative of its popularity! Only regret is that I didn’t have a bigger crowd with me to sample more of the menu!”

“Used on 21mar2024.I am a Japanese person from Amami Oshima.The yellowtail kamayaki was so delicious that I ordered another one.For Japanese people, I would like the sashimi to be cut thinner.The fish was very fresh and delicious.Regarding the balance of sashimi and rice in nigiri sushi, there is extremely little rice, which makes it feel strange.When making miso soup to go with sushi, it is common to use red miso instead of sweet white miso.Next time I would like to make a reservation in advance and try the tuna kamayaki.”

I did notice that they were not as busy, and a lot of people were looking to go to the place next door.The place was decent. The lady who took my order was a little rude. They weren't busy yet she gave me that look, like I was bothering her.We ordered:1. Bento box - beef teriyaki and chicken katsu. It wasn't bad. It hit the spot for the beef teriyaki craving.2. Bento box - beef teriyaki, chicken karaage, and tempura. It was pretty basic at best.Overall, the place itself was ok, but a little pricey. I don't really see myself coming back here anytime soon. It didn't really stand out in a way that would make me want to come back or make it my new go-to spot.”

“Don't let the name fool you, but this is a place you want to come to if you want good Viet-Asian comfort food; they take traditional Vietnamese favorites and put their own spin on things. We were fortunate to have the Chef walk by and glad we went with his recommendations.Their ultimate appetizer platter have something for everyone. With the traditional Vietnamese fried egg rolls, to their pork balls skewers poked in a cucumber and Asian style fried won ton pockets. To balance it out, there's vermicelli and other vegetables Another of our repeat favorite is their open flame cooked Quail with sweet onion garnish. Although it's to be have together the quail was tasty as is and didn't really need it. We also went with the Chef's recommendation of Eel, and this is one of the few places that cooks it just right (too long in the steamer and the meat is dry or too quick and the meat still sticks to the bone). Seasoning was done just right and added a savory taste that would've went well with some rice. For winter, we again went with the Chef's recommendation of pig stomach and chicken soup (Asian belief its good to drink this in the winter time to keep the body warm). Lot's of pig stomach and chicken (just needed a bowl of rice and this could've been a meal by itself) but the star was the soup, very hearty and tasty. The beef stew was on par, but their fried chicken and skin (with fish paste as the meat) was a masterful dish.Plenty of parking and although there's a parking lot in the back, it was easier to find street parking.”

I don't think I'll ever be in a mood where I will deny a warm bowl of Pho. I'm really grateful that there is such a wide range of variety from different parts of Vietnam and now there are different "tiers" of Vietnamese restaurants as well. I love a good hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant that will give you the check right after you get served but I also appreciate unique fusions and creative menus that are the likes of Gao Viet Kitchen and this spot, Pho De Nguyen! Although I will rank this spot as in the middle of a basic viet restaurant and a super boujee one like Gao. My husband and I brought our 1 year old to this spot on a cold, gloomy day and parking was a bit of a pain since it's in downtown San Bruno and there's only street parking available but we made it work! Once we entered, we were seated right away and the process here is to order from a QR code on the table. We ordered the oxtail pho, duck garlic noodles, and filet mignon garlic noodles. The turnaround time was pretty good and the service was pretty efficient. On to the food! I really liked the duck garlic noodles and I would say that was the highlight of the meal. My 1 yr old daughter was obsessed with the pho and couldn't get enough of it although I was a bit turned off by the still pink oxtail. The broth for the pho was really rich but I didn't really find it super outstanding. Unfortunately, my husband thought the filet mignon garlic noodles were pretty meh. Clocking in at $30+ I was kinda hoping for more flavorful meat but received kinda chewy beef instead. Overall, I think would come back for the duck garlic noodles and would trial a different pho. I dig the innovation of this restaurant and like the overall vibes but I think you just gotta pick out the specific stellar dishes!”

“Gerson was an incredibly helpful manager and the pies are delicious!Review of service:As we had never been to Shari's and it was close, we ordered delivery from here. When we ordered, we had a bit of an issue with them not having pies in stock but Gerson was supremely helpful with offering us alternatives. Even with all the help, he also went above and beyond and offered to take care of us the next time we came by. A few days later, we decided to get some pies in person and Gerson was there to help us once again. He not only remembered my name, was immensely personable, but also provided us with stellar customer service in general. I will absolutely be coming back whenever I'm in the area and craving some pies and definitely recommend going if only for just the pies!Review of pies:My friends and I had a variety of pie slices (chocolate creme supreme pie, sour cream lemon pie, lemon meringue pie, deep dish Washington apple pie, sweet Montana cherry pie, strawberry rhubarb delight pie, and a tropical coconut cream pie) all of which were unanimously delicious and reasonably priced. Food is flavorful. Portions are generous. Employees provide excellent customer service. Prices are so decent. And have you seen those lunch options? - so good and comforting, it's like an HK cafe. Closed for indoor dining, but the food tastes GREAT as takeout. Even the crispy salt and pepper fried chicken is very crispy as take out!”

“Thai tea is basic, it's reliable, but I wanted to be adventurous and try the green thai tea. I asked them what the difference was, and was told it was a little more floral but it's similar but different depending on who you ask. In my opinion, it was quite different from normal thai tea. It definitey was more floral, but still subtly floral in the general sense. I got it with less ice and 70% sweetness, which was perfect. I do love floral and strong tea tastes and this really hit the spot. It feels like it's high in caffeine content. Tasty! My friend had the coffee drink, which he liked. I tasted a little bit of sea salt in there. The inside of the eatery is pretty big, with an entire back area (where the bathroom is) that you might miss if you're just coming to grab a drink to go. It's a nice place to sit and have long chats with friends.”

They have photos with the drink names if you need help envisioning what the drinks are. Great little spot with even better music always playing. Staff are always nice. “Came here with my sister for dinner. This is one of our favorite Japanese restaurants for my entire family. We love coming here because the entire staff is so nice. The cook/owner will come out and check on the guests. It's awesome to watch. We love their miso dressing. And to know that is home made makes it even better. We always ask for extra. Their beef teriyaki is amazing. Perfectly cooked to medium with enough pink in the middle. Their tempura is so crunchy and good! It's not over battered so when you dip it, it keeps the crunchiness when you bite into it. The place is a little hole in the wall. They don't have many seats but if you know what time to come, you'll always get seated. If you come during prime time, be prepared to wait outside to be seated.”

The flavors were delicious and the cheese was perfect. I like the pull apart where the cheese is still going, attached to the whole, and you have to manually rip it from the pie. “Thai tea is basic, it's reliable, but I wanted to be adventurous and try the green thai tea. I asked them what the difference was, and was told it was a little more floral but it's similar but different depending on who you ask. In my opinion, it was quite different from normal thai tea. It definitey was more floral, but still subtly floral in the general sense. I got it with less ice and 70% sweetness, which was perfect. I do love floral and strong tea tastes and this really hit the spot. It feels like it's high in caffeine content. Tasty! My friend had the coffee drink, which he liked. I tasted a little bit of sea salt in there. The inside of the eatery is pretty big, with an entire back area (where the bathroom is) that you might miss if you're just coming to grab a drink to go. It's a nice place to sit and have long chats with friends.”

“Gerson was an incredibly helpful manager and the pies are delicious!Review of service:As we had never been to Shari's and it was close, we ordered delivery from here. When we ordered, we had a bit of an issue with them not having pies in stock but Gerson was supremely helpful with offering us alternatives. Even with all the help, he also went above and beyond and offered to take care of us the next time we came by. A few days later, we decided to get some pies in person and Gerson was there to help us once again. He not only remembered my name, was immensely personable, but also provided us with stellar customer service in general.
