“I eat at Pelton Cafe often with friends and family. The staff are always very friendly. Super accommodating. The restaurant is clean. Some mornings there's a line and you have to sign in on a piece of paper. Never had to wait too long. They're great at refilling your coffee.“

I could write a whole post on how amazing and lovely this is as a date spot for dinner and how much I freaking love their salads and gluten free pizzas (possibly my favorite one in the bay), but this is about brunch.We had no idea they did brunch and when we looked at the menu for it online, it didn’t list any mains. But we went anyway and were blown away. I’m adding a pic of the actual brunch menu so you can see the real selection offered.Y’all, they have a BREAKFAST PIZZA and I promise it’s even better than you would imagine. Do you like breakfast? “My server handled an entire room during a busy lunchtime shift while keeping her cool!I opted for Tacos and was able to mix it up with 1 Pulled Bison and 2 Smoked Squash served with a fresh wild green salad. Wapepah’s blue corn bread is a beautiful grainy texture and pairs great with Warm Berry Pudding. Wait…. Don’t leave without getting Frybread! Its delicate crispy exterior is perfectly balanced with its soft warm freshness, topped with a buttery finish!“

“Good food and cocktails! We've gone here about 5 times, and always leave happy. The menu seems to change throughout the year, always tempting us with a new drink or dish when we come. Great outdoor seating space. They also host different events including a karaoke night we went to a bit back that was a lot of fun.“

“The hardest thing about Burdell is that you can't eat everything in one sitting but you really want to. Tonight was our first time dining here, and we are already looking forward to going back. My husband and I started with cocktails and they were absolutely delicious. Then we had the chicken liver and waffles and we all but licked the plate. For dinner I had the fried petrale sole and my husband had the pork neck. We also couldn't resist getting the whipped potatoes, which were everything you want potatoes to be. We both loved our entrees and stole bites from each other. Very flavorful, very lovely presentation, and nice portions. For dessert we shared the chocolate puddin and it was also excellent. We were well taken care of by all of the staff and got some lovely drink recommendations that paired well with each course. We really enjoyed this dining experience and look forward to returning. “This mac and cheese is perfect- PERFECT. When I'm not in the area, I cry. I got the cookbook for Christmas a couple of years ago and that can tide me over but of course, I'd rather it come from the OG. My absolute favorites are the pesto mac or pizza mac - both of which will rotate on and off the menu. A crunchy top is a necessity. “It's not easy to be a restaurant owner nowadays, but the way this place continually tries new menus, events and community-driven projects to better the food and drinks scene in Oakland is awesome, and what our little town deserves. Also, I'm burying the lede but the food and drinks are AWESOME. Deadbeat summer and mellow deadbeat for the NA folks, new items like the tots and tuna tostado slap. The burger. The burger! “We had dinner there tonight (3/14/24) for the first time and we will be back. They are two of the most interesting and truly delicious sandwiches we have ever eaten. I can't remember what mine was called, but it had chicken (roasted perfectly), sauerkraut, cheese and other awesome stuff on a grilled rye bread that was excellent. My bride had the turkey sandwich and loved it. But the star of the show were the Tater Tots. Perfectly crisp with BBQ sauce to dip them in and then into some wonderful real bacon bits. Every tot stayed crisp from the first to the last. The meal was worth every penny and more. Get into the Alameda location and try it. You won't be sorry. PS: The only bad part for me is that we live in Seattle and won't be back down until May. But you can bet I will be eating here then.“

“Another PHENOMENAL experience! It's Alameda Restaurant week so busier than usual but we got in at 6:30 Sat and were out by 7:10. Ordered the burger and chick sando- both have been on our minds for a while but we always get Trips Triple and it felt like we were cheating but man was it worth it! DELICIOUS! Kind of wish we got the Crab Stew/Cioppino because it's looked amazing but we have no regrets with our sandwiches and the awesome Brussels sprouts.“

“I came across this place while I was door dashing. The menu was unique and the sandwiches sounded good. I got the Tom & Jerry on a Dutch Crunch roll. It came exactly how I ordered it and tasted amazing. There is plenty of sauce on it which I love. The bread was nice and soft too! I wish there was one closer to my house. I'd probably eat here more often. Definitely gonna order again.“

“Just stumbled upon this place last night and can’t believe it was my first time! Amazing food and drinks. We got the catfish, the arugula salad and the wings and all were amazing. Definitely try the mango habanero wings if you can, not too spicy at all, but decent sized wings that are cooked to perfection and crunchy! The catfish bites were also delicious. The chef himself came out and delivered the food! Super sweet guy who really cares. Not to mention the bartender Adam who was very attentive and very kind. He let us know that they have “weirdo Wednesdays” every second and fourth Wednesday of the month where they spin punk and metal which sounds super fun. We’ll definitely be back!“

“My partner and I have been wanting to go to Rio for a long time and I am so happy we finally went. He found it tucked away in a handsome building in Oakland's Preservation Park and was dying to go because he has a fascination with places that are somewhat tucked away. While it looks small, the restaurant had nice indoor and outdoor seating. The food was absolutely delicious and filling. He had the feijoada and cleaned his (substantial) plate, saying the black beans were cooked to perfection and the combination of collard greens and yucca flour really made for a unique and delicious dish. I had the jerk chicken burrito, which was very good (albeit huge). The chicken was moist and the salsa was a really flavorful complement to the burrito. There is table service after ordering at the counter. I suspect the cashier was the owner, as he had extensive knowledge of all the dishes and offered up a few Brazilian cultural tidbits. He was very nice and accommodating to my request to hold the pico de gallo due to a food allergy. I highly recommend this spot if you can make it during the time it is open. While the menu is chicken heavy, there are fish and veggie options.“

“What an incredible find! By all rights this should be a Michelin 1 star restaurant. Funky, vegetable forward and friendly like AL's Place (RIP) or Cafe Olli in Portland. The cocktails were dialed-in and delicious - nothing too sweet. The dishes were symphonies of both known and surprising flavors. Was that pickled cucumber noodles under the crab salad? I don't know, but I know it was delicious! Is that fish sauce in the beef tartare? Yes or no, it's incredible!The criticism I see online of this place is that the dishes are small - they aren't, for the quality. We were more than full with four dishes between two people, which in a regular restaurant would be 2 apps and 2 entrees. That's entirely reasonable! MY only criticism is that I wish there were more dishes served heated. The Fregola was so comforting - it needs some friends!If you have a last-minute date night, this is on a very short list of excellent options. Don't miss it!“

“Marica is a nice little gem up the road from Rockbridge BART. They currently have limited indoor seating + some outdoor seating. My group was thoroughly pleased with all entreés ordered. “I've ordered takeout from ILava a couple times on Doordash. Their orders have been tasty, with pretty good portion size relative to the price (these days). I've had their Chicken Combo Plate (Chicken Katsu and Chicken Teriyaki), Walnut Prawns and the Curry Chicken (BBQ Chicken with Curry Sauce instead of the teriyaki sauce). Their normal plates come with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Compared to some of the other Hawaiian places in the area, this is probably one of my new favorites.“

But honestly pasta pelican is actually quite good and has a wide selection of tasty pastas for a reasonable price. The service is also great and let you have as much house baked bread as you want and it's not difficult to get a reservation, even with a large party as the restaurant is pretty large inside. The interior design of the restaurant could and a little face lift--it's giving old ship.
