Fieldwork Brewing Company - San Leandro Brewery • $$
100A W Juana Ave, San Leandro

“Great place to hang out, have snacks or a meal. Recommend bringing a beer geek with you to sift through the multitude of beery offerings. They have an impressive selection of "old school" beers in bottles: barleywine (above average), imperial stout (multiple varieties), and Belgian dubbel (also above average). Not much for the kids to drink, though my 11 and 14 each found something decent. The Caesar salad is the best I've ever had, the pizza is decent, and the service is good.Demerits for the bench seating with no backs for the Over 40 crowd, the minimal kid drink selection, and it can be difficult to find parking nearby on the weekends.“

“Walk in here with my brothers and son. Was not busy at all. Always wanted to try this spot since I heard the reviews for all the folks that live in SL. Atmosphere was great, felt homey. Service was great since the guy was very patient. I’ll be honest I did not know what I wanted. They did had some display by the slices. Detroit paesano caught our attention. We also went with their recommend pie they referred. Took the food home and took pics of it. Now for the actual taste. Tried the recommended pizza first. Crust was awesome, crunchy, chewy. The sauce was a sweet marinara, and they had fresh mozzarella. Fresh mozzarella was delicious but I’m not a fan of the marinara.overall I’ll rate that pizza a 6/10. Now for that Detroit pizza. The first bite was divine, savory marinara sauce with pepperoni, meat ball, mushrooms. It was also like a deep dish pizza. It was definitely on point, crispy ,crunch ,chewy crust. 8.5/10, 9/10 when I added their crush red pepper to add a really decent kick.“

Ga Hing Chinese • $

“They printed in bold on the cover of the menu “NO MSG” & they are true to the words. I did not get thirsty after eating.I bought 2 orders. They cook while I waited. When I get home, it is still HOT. BIG portion. The meat was accompanied by plenty of vegetables. This is GENUINE Chinese cooking with salt, sugar, condiments & herbs. While the other restaurants that have changed hands are reintroducing the notorious MSG, Ga Hing is one of those last bastions that maintains the real cooking.Only AMATEUR use MSG.“

Drake's Brewing Company Brewery • $
1933 Davis St #177, San Leandro

“Excellent spot before an A's game. We've often come here for food and drinks, and it's a short Uber ride to the stadium. Ordering food and drinks can be done from your phone, and service is really prompt. Lots of space, both indoor and outdoor. Drake's beer speaks for itself - if you haven't tried Hopocalypse it's a tasty hazy DIPA staple, give it a shot. Like many breweries, they've embraced the Hazy craze, but not just for the sake of sales, their hazies are excellent. They've added Juicy Hoot and Hazing Saddles and I enjoyed both. If you're not a Hazy person, there are plenty of choices - pils, hefe, stout, lagers, sours - pick your poison. The tater tots are a good compliment to the beer selection. When the A's pack up for Vegas, I'll surely find another excuse to head up for some good beer and food.“

“Another one of my childhood favorites. I remember summers where I would come down to El Portal with some friends and order what I could with my allowance money. I'm glad to see that the restaurant has not changed and the food is still delicious like always. I ordered the chicken fajitas and it came with three corn tortillas, guacamole, sour cream, rice, beans, and some lettuce. It was smokey and seasoned really well, my only gripe is that it was really salty. The horchata I ordered really helped with that. The horchata was creamy and sweet. The birria tacos were delicious, the meat was tender and really juicy. I loved the consume that came with it. It is lacking in the spice department, I wish it had more oomf to it.“
