Don't miss Santa Rosa's top Mexican restaurants, as recommended by Restaurantji.
“The food is amazing and the customer service is top notch! I enjoyed the carne asada French fries which were heaping with cheese and meat. Everything tastes fresh and the meat didn't taste like mock steak that other places try passing off as real. I believe this may have just become my new favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Sonoma county. Though this was 11 miles from my house in Rohnert Park, I will easily make it my new go to for amazing Mexican food. The avocado salsa is spicy but super good.... I give this place 10 stars, and I like to think of myself as a Mexican food critic with growing up in San Diego where all the Mexican food is great! I am so stuffed after only less then 3/4 of my meal, which I should have stopped eating while I was ahead, but I managed to savor every last bite. The breakfast burritos look amazing so that is what I'm chasing after next. You're welcome...“
“Good food and friendly service!! The shrimp taco wasn't what I expected but was still good. It was more like a mini shrimp quesadilla in a corn tortilla. I'm not a fan of cheese in tacos but this worked. The dining partners enjoyed their birra tacos. The horchata was fantastic. Would not hesitate to eat here again.“
“Not sure why there are a few bad reviews, because this was one of the best spots I've ever been to. We got chilaquiles los compadres & I got the pancakes los compadres. As you can tell presentation was great & flavor was for sure there! & the service was amazing. The restaurant is so cute & clean, it's our new favorite spot. Y'all gotta try them out“
“The menu features an array of mouthwatering dishes, from sizzling fajitas and savory enchiladas to flavorful tacos and fresh ceviche. Each dish is expertly prepared with the finest ingredients and authentic recipes, ensuring a dining experience that is both delicious and memorable. With its friendly staff and festive ambiance, La Hacienda del Toro is the perfect destination for a casual meal with family and friends or a special celebration.“
“Six of us, four adults and two children, had dinner at La Rosa recently and were very happy with our experience. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. We were seated outside on the patio. It was a bit chilly but they had the heaters going and it was very comfortable. The food was excellent. We started with drinks and guac. Two of us had mocktails which I am beginning to prefer to the real thing, one had sangria and one beer. It was a nice start. Four of us had the combination plates which include one or two of a selection of items including tacos plus refried beans and rice. One of our group had fish tacos and the other chimichanga. My combo had a chili relleno and a crispy beef taco. My wife had a tamale with a crispy taco. They were very good and there was a lot of food. Our server Carrie was very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend.“
“Ordered a sope with no lechuga but when they brought it out, it was filled with lettuce but I didn’t want to say anything so i scraped it off…other than that, food was good. Chips and the green dip was good. Parking can be limited and in the same area as walgreens, and other mini places like sushi and froyo.“
“Simply AMAZING STREET TACO VALUE!! And the flavor is OUTSTANDING!! Super friendly staff and the milk shakes my two boys had, they LOVED because they we not over sweet! Thank you!! Where else can you order 12 Tacos and two milk shakes, two baskets chips and all the salsa we could eat, and 4 glasses of water each for less that $50???? This day and age, not anywhere else I've friend. Seriously ya all need to come eat some GREAT TACOS FOR TINY MONEY!!! $2.49 each!!!“
“I absolutely LOVE Las Palmas. they have by far the best Vegetarian burrito I've had in Sonoma County. It has veggies to the max!! Most veggie burritos are just burrito without meat but Las Palmas does it up with all kinds of sautéed veg. They also have a great selection of beverages and DELICIOUS flan!“
“Came here on a Sunday morning, hungover, looking for the cure. prayed to the hunger gods and found this place. My hangover and hunger magically disappeared. Get the pozole!!! The pozole had a lot of flavor and the place had good service. It tastes yummy“
“Amazing breakfast there. Nice little family restaurant where everyone seems to be smiling. That is not all that common nowadays. My go to in a Mexican restaurant is to try the AL pastor, and if it ducks I probably won't come back.ir is worth a go there.“
“It’s ALL about the food. Don’t get me wrong, service was super friendly and fast. But the food was outstanding! Fresh flavored, hand made tortillas and my birria tacos were the best I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favor come here for the true Mexican food with telenovelas on the screen and all. It’s all about the food!“
“It was raining, I was starving, I stopped into a parking lot where this truck was, and the owner was there. I ordered the mulitas and the food was so incredibly delicious ?I finished my order and went back to the truck to get a second round for later. They were super nice and the food was great. I'm pretty much a stalker of this food truck, and their cochinita pibil is also very tender and juicy.“
“We visited our daughter in Santa Rosa and this restaurant was recommended by a friend of hers. I have to say it was the best tasting Mexican food I've had in a long time. I got the super burrito in a bowl and everything was delicious. I usually never eat the beans or rice but these were delicious. The rice was fluffy and tasty and the beans were delicious and topped with cotija cheese. The steak was very tender and delicious. The chips were fresh and were served with several little bowls of different salsas, and one with beans and cheese. We will come back when we visit again.“
“This small taco shop serves top noch Mexican Street tacos. They stand out from the rest in the quality of their ingredients. Their taco meat is excellent. Their savory salsa valances just right with their taco. Consistently great flavor. It's just the perfect taco. Try it!Vegetarian options: Ask.“
“Birria fries are awesome. The amount of food you get in that dish can feed three people. And for the price it's incredible. I also had a Carne Asada taco and a Carnitas taco. Both were very delicious. But I tend to lean towards Carne Asada as I prefer beef over pork. It's located in a food truck consortium and the service is extremely fast. Cooked to order. You're sitting out on the picnic tables eating it so it's extremely formal which is wonderful.“
“Have not been to El Roy's truck but his fixed restaurant in Petaluma is great! Usually order tacos; fish, asado which come with unlimited serve yourself salsa and chips. My partner and I always leave stuffed. Wish Roy would offer cerveza. Where else can two leave satisfied for around $30 plus tip. We live in Kenwood but find excuses to drive to Petaluma to get gas, or milk or maybe a loaf of bread around mealtime to catch El Roy's!“
“I love going here and getting the sopes! The ladies working are always so nice. I have been learning Spanish and this is a place that I can confidently order my food in Spanish with no anxiety. Food is amazing, sopes are always fluffy, crisp, and warm. Their salsa to go on top (green and red) are so good, meat is tender and flavorful. My fiancé and I always order 3 each are even though we are full, want more because they’re that good.We have also had the tacos here and they are also well made, meat is great, salsas go great with them. The outdoor eating area is always clean and lit. Very nice place to stop by and get amazing food with a lovely atmosphere and great service! ?“
“Decent food at a decent price. This is a mobile Mexican restaurant and only has one picnic table outside. It is located in a section of property off of Airport Blvd that is Commercial businesses zoned. It seems to me that they are set up there to serve hungry employees who work in the assorted industrial business buildings in that area. Not great scenery or ambience and the wait time was longer than expected with only 2 other people waiting for their orders. Small mobile unit on a small space shared by one of the industrial business es.“
“Cascabel Restaurant has delicious margaritas, fresh fish tacos. Our family loves the Chef’s seafood enchiladas, grilled salmon salads with avocados, chicken tortilla soup, and we got unlimited parking next to Luckys in the Sonoma County Wine Country. Delicious, wide menu of flavors with various exotic sauces including chipotle and mole chocolate spiced sauce. Absolutely undeniably delicious with a fine dining atmosphere in a popular light wood well lit dining room. Sonoma has the freshest ingredients, Cascabel chefs know how to mix the dishes together with extraordinary ingredients. The dishes shine with fresh flavor. The seafood shrimp, scallops, crab are perfectly blended together with the cheeses and sauce. Fried fresh fish tacos, unbelievable flaky, fresh fish.“
“The food is excellent, but for someone on a low sodium diet bad news. Very salty, the service is great, from order to finish is extremely fast. Attack me if you want but I am totally in the bais on this. If you are not as tan as everyone else there seems to be a heavy tension in the air, makes me feel like I don't belong there or welcomed there. Just feeling I get. You may have a different experience. Either way I would suggest trying it for yourself and making your own decisions. But I do really like the food.Dietary restrictions: Not much of an option, the sodium in each dish is very high. Like eating 5 top ramen high.Kid-friendliness: It is not kid friendly, at a busy intersection and main road, sabastapol rd and I believe it is west street both very busy with the majority not caring or paying attention to the road, you bring your children here and you may leave without them.Wheelchair accessibility: Really not designed for wheelchair although there is wheelchair access sortof.“
“Ordered from door dash for the first time, and was so happy I did! New favorite spot in Santa Rosa. Everything tasted fresh, meat cooked perfectly, and huge portions(not a must, but a bonus!) Thank you, and are most definitely ordering again!“
“When I think of consistently great food, I think of Lila's. The staff are responsive and helpful, the space is extremely clean and organized with booths and tables. The chef makes the food within plain view which is awesome. This place hasnt stayed in business for over 20 years without fully earning it.Parking: Parking is fantastic. Excellent location.Kid-friendliness: Enough room for the whole family to enjoy dinner.“
“The food is great here. The service is friendly and quick. This spot is truly a hidden gem! I am always shocked to see how little clients come here when it has a pretty good atmosphere for a Mexican restaurant. The music playlist us great and the food comes out promptly! My family loves this “
“We came in and were greeted like family friends, very welcoming. We tried the Chilaquiles with red sauce (green is spicier if that floats your boat) and the Denver Omelette. Each plate was $16.00. Portions were generous. 10/10 for flavor, texture, price, quantity, and authenticity. We took some ice cream to go as well, which was the cherry on top. They have it all! Don't forget to eat here if you are in the area. (on a side note, the restroom was very large and squeaky clean!)Kid-friendliness: They have kid size tables and chairs with Disney characters!“
“Great ambiance, kind (and usually FAST) service, very yummy food (try the molcajete mix..... sooooo flavorful and enough for 3 meals), and wonderful cocktails (the margarita flight is a favorite but the Paloma is a close second).Dietary restrictions: The molcajetes are great for a low carb option!Parking: Parking lot gets full during peak timesKid-friendliness: Several options for kids, some of which are smaller portions of the main menu (my oldest likes the kids enchilada) and others that are American (my youngest likes the chicken nuggets and fries)Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance is wheelchair accessible and all of the tables (minus a few tall tables) would accommodate a wheelchair no problem“
“Best tamales in town. Not a place to sit down.Delicious tamales plates with beans and riceThe cost of the meal is a decent priceI like the jalapeño and cheese Try it out I bet you'll be pleasedDon't forget to ask for cremaDriving back to get it will be your dilemma“
“Update: Wow! This place had done a total 180⁰ !! I can now call this a hidden gem!! The food here now is delicious, fresh, high quality and generous portions! The tortillas are definitely homemade as well -- fresh and delicious! I believe a new family maybe running this business now? Both times we went there, there was only one server. Her service was friendly, attentive and good.“
“I love their food, except for the nachos. Don't get the nachos, soggy & not delish. Tacos, enchiladas, margaritas, sangria, All good and so much more!Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp, tables and bathroom all ADA compliant for wheelchair ♿️“
“We saw this place on Guy Fieri's DDD and were so intrigued we had to try it. It's an unassuming place in a little strip mall, sitting next to a Safeway. It was fairly quiet when we went in, a few of the cafe tables occupied. We ordered the Molcajete Mixta, which as advertised on DDD was loaded with meat, easily enough for 4-6 people. The molcajete was so hot, the sauce was bubbling around the chicken, beef, chorizo, shrimp, cheese, jalapeno and nopal. And it continued to bubble for most of the meal. It was served with six homemade tortillas that were just beautiful. All the meat was so tender, the shrimp were perfectly crisp and plump and juicy, the chorizo (made in house) was so savory and delicious. The sauce was incredible, but not spicy enough. I don't think they trusted us to eat spicy food - until she saw me chow down on the jalapeno and add extra hot sauce. We also orded two tacos: one crispy, one not; filled with their al pastor. Perfection.“
“Fair prices and excellent food. A good choice for your favorite traditional Mexican Dish. You won't go wrong Ordering a good dessert. More for a date than the whole family but it can accommodate both. I'd eat there again.Vegetarian options: Food can be made to a special desire for non meat eating folks. The bean and rice can be loaded with all sorts of extras.“
“This is gonna be the first Taqueria. I've been to in a very long time that mixes their ingredients for your burrito before wrapping it in a tortilla. This ensured that each bite had equal portions consistent flavor etc. not sure if this is a regular thing for these guys but mine was mixed up and tasted very good consistently throughout the burrito.“
“Enchiladas with the most delicious sauce, terrific shredded chicken tacos, delicious ground beef with melted cheese, my daughter loved the dishes. Many families were enjoying their dinner when we went to eat. Chelino’s restaurant is a family favorite in a neighborhood diner like atmosphere out of a film made on Highway 12 into Downtown Santa Rosa.“
“Excellent service in terms of staff, very delicious food, especially I like the touch of two cultures since it brings two worlds in one and enjoying the food in one place is great. I give 5 to the staff and 5 to the food because I have visited many restaurants throughout the United States but this is always my restaurant when I visit my relatives in Santa Rosa.Wheelchair accessibility: Forks“
“Consistently amazing food, I've been coming here for years. The people are very friendly and the food is arguably the best Mexican in the whole city. And very reasonably priced at that. The inside of the place is small, but I don't stay there to enjoy the place, it's all about the food! Oh and the salsa is great, I'm addicted to the green. Do yourself a favor and skip Taco Bell for something much, much better both in quality and price. Long live El Patio!“
“The tacos are good. Steak burrito I give 8/10 I order it without lettuce.(better then el roys) They have doordash so order ahead they get busy it's a food truck. The tacos are good. Order a carne asada burrito without lettuce 8/10 is my rating for The Burrito. It also has doordash for quieter ordering.“
“revCrazy, only 3 stars. The place is small, but it's good food. Far better then there other location. I am not a generous reviewer, and rarely give 5 stars, but this place is tried and true. The 5 stars is due to the years of consistency, somthing thats all too rare for restaurants. When I say consistency, what I mean is that the food is the same every time, its always good, always hot, and the servers/cashiers are very very nice.“
“I was ordering delivery for my mother who lives in Santa Rosa, who is celebrating her 78th birthday today. I live in Southern California, so I had no way to deliver or pick up the meal myself. I ordered online and when ordering, I found no way to change the delivery time, so in my notes for the order, I asked if they could change the delivery time to later. I didn't realize the delivery service was through door dash, rather than directly through the restaurant. Door dash cancelled on me when they found out the time changed. I called Door Dash and thought we got it worked out. No! I kept calling Taqueria Santa Rosa to see what I could do. I knew they were already so so busy, but I had no way to get the meal myself. The wonderful people at Taqueria promised me that no matter what they would make sure to get my mother's meal delivered on time. They did!!! And they gave my mother an order of flan to celebrate her birthday! My heart is so full with gratitude for these kind employees (owners/managers) at Taqueria!!! They even wished my mother a happy birthday for me. I filled my mother in with all the details about how wonderful they were, and she and my dad will definitely be going to enjoy the food at Taqueria again. The food was delicious and enjoyed by my parents. Thank you so much!!“
“Absolutely great experience, and all I did was come in for a pick up order. The staff we're very welcoming, and the food as always was top notch. I've never had the chance to eat in, but now seeing this new location, I definitely will be planning a trip here for a family dinner. Thank you guys for a good experience, its very rare to see nowadays.“
“Might be the yummiest carnitas torta I've ever had. Super soft bread, stacked with carnitas, tomato, avocado, a little lettuce, and Salvadoran pickled veggies (curtido), then smothered in chili relleno sauce. Soo good. Food coma lasted two hours afterward.“
“Before I continue, the ONLY reason that I didn't give it a five-star rating is because I've only tried two things there, so far, BUT what I did try I loved. Their shredded beef chimichanga is remarkably good. One of THE best that I've had in ages. I also loved their shredded beef enchiladas but I loved the chimichanga more simply because I'm MUCH more a burrito and chimichanga guy. I only ordered the enchiladas because I wanted something a bit less heavy because they fed us at work a few hours earlier. My wife gets their chicken fajitas and says that they are some of THE best that she's ever had. And then there's the service. I challenge anyone to find a more friendly and engaging staff than they have at EL CHARRO. Very warm and nice people and that, alone, made us want to return there. But when you couple that with excellent food? That's a combination that just can't be beat. We'll be going back again (possibly later on today or next weekend) and I cannot wait. This is NOT meant as a knock on the former owners because I hadn't eaten there in YEARS but the folks who now own it have only owned it for a couple of years or so if I heard them, right, when we asked about who the owners are. So IF you didn't like EL CHARRO several years ago, you may like it now. Again, that is NOT meant as a knock on the former owners. I simply didn't eat there but once and that was years ago. Maybe it was good when the old owners had it, too. I just know that the current folks who run the place are friendly folks who make it a joy to eat there and they serve up some tasty food! I wish that YELP allowed four and a half star ratings because that is what I'd already give EL CHARRO if they did and they still might get me to give them a five star rating in the near future. We love their place!“
“I ordered a California burrito with chorizo instead of steak. They were happy to accommodate and also made sure I knew the chorizo would be a different texture than most of the other meats. I order chorizo all the time but since they have the translation (pork sausage) on the menu, I thought this was really nice as it could be helpful for folks who haven’t had chorizo. All of the staff were super friendly. The burrito was one of the best I’ve ever had. I also loved the Jamaica, which wasn’t over sweetened like many other places. Overall fabulous experience!Kid-friendliness: Kids menu“
“We loved the food! Humble restaurant with authentic Mexican food. Kind and attentive service. We got the chicken quesadilla and the chilaquiles— both were delicious and not greasy, with great fresh flavor.Good breakfast options and lots of options for vegetarians too.Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian options“
“Our waiter, Ben, was delightful and very well informed about the menu. The fish tacos were made with cod, and very tasty. My friend enjoyed her sampler platter. The portions were huge, and we both took home enough leftovers for another meal! Thanks for a really enjoyable lunch. ?“
