“The Getaway Cafe is a small restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch, tucked in the woods off U.S. Highway 50 in Meyers, CA, in the Lake Tahoe basin. The restaurant advertises "alpine comfort cuisine" and has been voted as Lake Tahoe's best breakfast and lunch restaurant. The dining room is fairly small, comfortable, rustic and was very warm, thanks to the fireplace. As the restaurant has achieved a reputation for amazing cuisine, the dining room fills up quickly. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. You'll be seated and given a menu, and the friendly staff will treat you like family. From the "Best of the Best" section of the breakfast menu, I went with "The Morning After." Now... that was appropriate, as I'd been up since 04:00 on this Thursday morning. The menu describes this fine breakfast as, "One biscuit topped with two eggs and homemade sausage gravy, with your choice of bacon or sausage links; served with your choice of potatoes. Of course I went with hash browns for my choice of potatoes. Eggs are fried your way, and I went with sunnyside up, as eggs fried that way work well with hash brown potatoes and gravy. I chose sausage links over bacon. Oh yeah! The meal began with a large fresh, in-house baked biscuit, covered in some of the best sausage gravy in El Dorado County or wherever. The menu advertises "one" biscuit, but the "one" biscuit was large and simply did the job. The biscuit was covered with country gravy, two fried eggs were on top of the biscuit, and most of the eggs were covered in gravy. The gravy was thick, rich, seasoned with pepper, and had lots of chunks of sausage. Topping the biscuit and the eggs... this was simply an "oh my" moment! And the hash brown potatoes... I'm still thinking about them as they were as good as it gets. The hash browns were deep fried to a perfect, golden brown on the outside, and white, tender and chewy inside. I loved the amazing crispy outside, that boasted a great "crunch," and the tender inside. The chef has talent, as these hash brown potatoes are the breakfast potatoes that "foodies" dream about. Two links of sausage complimented the meal and helped to make this "The Morning After" breakfast delicious. I simply LOVED this amazing breakfast! All I can say is when you're in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and you're interested in an amazing breakfast The Getaway Cafe should be on your menu. I can't judge what is the best breakfast in the Lake Tahoe area... but I CAN say that the friendly service, the alpine atmosphere and "The Morning After" breakfast I enjoyed not only made my morning, but it made my entire day. When you're in Meyers, CA, and you're looking for an amazing breakfast or lunch, check out The Getaway Cafe. You'll love this fine alpine diner.“
“We have been going to Basecamp for over 9 years as we lived on Stateline. We now live in Minden and go to Heavenly Village to hang out and eat, listen to live music, etc. Let me say that out of all the servers we have ever had. Alydia, I think that is how you spell her name. This girl was on top of everything! Great service she never forgot one thing we asked for, she would look over to see how full my glass was. wow! this girl is AMAZING! She had a smile on her face the whole time. I hope to sit in her section next time we eat there. We appreciate you Alydia :o)“
“The best local coffee spot! Their matcha latte is unbeat! Staff is always friendly and welcoming (even when it's packed ?). I love grabbing the whole bean to brew at home too. The beans are roasted perfectly, and there's so much body and flavor! ❤️“
“Incredible food and amazing service! We had the Goat & Jersey Girl sandwiches and both were delicious! They also have ice cream and bagels that we can't wait to come back and try. When you're in the area, make sure to stop in here for some yummy grub.“
“This place is awesome, nickey the bartender is great. Really dog friendly. Not like other places that say dog friendly but very limited. Nickey loves the dogs, gets the fireplace going and you feel like you’re at home. Well worth the stop. Oh yeah the beer is really good too?“
“We loved this chic and friendly brewery. We were killing some time before dinner and decided to chill out here after a long day of skiing. We got there before happy hour really started. Folks were starting to trickle in so we grabbed some seats and tried their local brews. We started out with him getting the Hazy IPA and I got the Lakeview Blond. I loved it and he loved his. Next thing we know, we called the restaurant and canceled our reservation because the food here smelled so good. We caved. I had the tomato basil soup and an order of pretzels and he had the Reuben. We were SO pleased. The beer pretzel and soup combo was often. I didn't like the cheese dip - sort of tasted like chicken and not enough cheese and the mustard was seed mustard. Wish they had a nice German mustard but starving skiers are not really all that picky. My stomach said "Shut up" to my brain and my hands were on automatic tearing up those beautiful pretzels and dipping them into my soup. I'm drooling now just thinking about it. Last but not least, our server was like family. So friendly, welcoming, polite, thorough, responsive and easy on the eyes (Argentinian). By the time I left, I was ready to adopt him! So sweet to us. Thanks for a great meal after a fantastic day of spring skiing.“
“I have nothing but great things to say about this place! Supreme location, and no matter where you sit -- inside or outside -- you can see the lake. The service is beyond friendly and accommodating. The food is quality and delicious. And, the wine has never disappointed! The most recent time I went I sat outside on a chilly day, and they even gave me a blanket to keep warm! Highly recommend!“
“By far my favorite place to go out to eat. The employees are absolutely incredible and the food is to die for. The atmosphere also never fails. There are not enough kind words I could say about MacDuffs. I would definitely recommend going hereKid-friendliness: Kid friendly“
“Great beer which is the most important thing when the place is called "brewing company." I had Lakeside Caprese sandwich and my husband had a smash burger. The burger was good but my Caprese sandwich was incredible. The homemade foccacia bread reminded me of foccacia bread we had in Italy!!!! Fresh basil and tasty mazz cheese were excellent. Great job, guys!!! Better to ride the gondola and have lunch here than at any lodge at Heavenly. We will definitely go back and bring friends with us. We will convert them to fans.“
“We were looking for options to grab a quick bite to eat on the way to Sierra-at-Tahoe and Tahoe Bagel came up on Yelp. It was close to where we were staying and in the direction we were traveling so we decided to give it a try based on the reviews. The place was filled but the line moved quickly. The wait for the food took longer but understandably so. I had a toasted sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese and it was excellent. Although we didn't have sandwiches on this visit, we liked that they were cooking up the ingredients on a flat top...much different than, say, a Noah's Bagels where everything is pre-made and then microwaved. Will definitely consider on future visits to South Lake Tahoe.“
“Very friendly customer service, and not to mention dog friendly, which we love. The beer is excellent and the brew master was very polite with us. I wish I had a chance to buy stickers of the brewery as I am a collector, but it just means I will have to come back to this brewery And say hello again. Highly recommend this place.“
“Had a good meal here. The best part was prices below $20. I had the chicken fried steak. The meat was a super soft texture and the hash browns were a bit charred but the flavors were good. My wife had the healthy omelette with turkey and mushrooms. We sat at the bar because the place was fairly full and we had no wait.“
“Nice spot for lunch with a beer or cocktail. Great staff and the owner actively walks around the restaurant checking on her guests. She closed the blinds for us because she saw the sun shining in our eyes. The food was good, and the drinks were delicious. It's worth a visit in your in SLT.“
“Please check out Pretty Odd Wieners!!! Absolutely delicious and unique dogs. We got the reuben and elote dog. So flavorful and wonderful. And the BEST customer service. Bryan and Jill were so spectacular - they have earned lifetime loyal customers. This food truck will be on the list any time we come to Tahoe. Go!“
“The Cork & More team is wonderful to work with and handled our wedding catering with ease! We had about 70 guests for our reception at the Idle Hour and received so many compliments on how great the taco bar was and how kind the staff was. Karla did a great job to work within our budget and offered customized quoting for our event. I must also say that Cork & More is a fantastic place to stop for a sandwich on a normal day or for fun artisanal goodies if you're in the South Lake Tahoe area.“
“If you like garlic bread... if you like fresh seafood... if you like fun drinks and good beer... do you like chocolate desserts? The staff is excellent and very accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone love what they had. The deck is great even on a windy wet night.“
“Was crossing through town and was looking for something to eat. Went to another establishment but the vibe felt totally off so I finished my beer and decided on here. Best choice ever! Food was excellent, atmosphere was excellent and most importantly Jenny was awesome. Thank you Jenny!“
“My husband and I took a day trip to Lake Tahoe and we happened upon South Lake Brewing Company. I like the chill and modern vibe of this place, with lots of natural light inside. They had a good selection of beer and 1 seltzer at the time. I’m giving this place 4 stars because I thought the service of the bartenders was a little lacking and I strongly disliked the seltzer I got but, it is a brewery and I felt their beers were pretty good. If you like beer, I would stop by and check this place out!“
“We stayed within walking distance during a stay in South Lake Tahoe. I went every morning for coffee and breakfast! The golden milk latte was great. The avocado toast is something I will be trying to recreate at home because it was that good. This space is inside of the hotel and was pretty easy to find.“
“Didn't take pics of the food or bowls. Darn! This place is so good though. It's like a hidden gem. The burrito is so good and the salsa that comes with it is delicious. The açaí bowls + smoothies are so bomb as well. Yes I tired all those three items when coming here. My husband got the bowl and I got the burrito and smoothie. Will definitely be coming back when visiting Tahoe again! I recommend this place for anyone that wants something light for breakfast, the wait is a bit like 5-7 mins at lest and more time if there is a decent amount of people there.“
“Happy hour here is a must. It’s 4-5 Tuesday-Thursday, so make sure you get here before 4 because boy does it fill up! We were lucky to get a table before happy hour started. It was so worth it! All the sushi was delicious, amazing prices, drinks were great, and we ate until we couldn’t eat any more. Apps were yummy too - already half gone in the photo! We will 1000% be back when we come back to Tahoe!“
“We were craving pho and found Ha Noi Pho. A grateful find.Delicious pho with lots of meat choices and a huge bone marrow bowl iffin you’re feeling culinarily adventurous!I would ask to crank up the temperature of the pho broth as a small nitpick.“
“Maddie with an I-E was the most professional and courteous host I've ever had the pleasure to interact with. Rachel was also an A+ example of what you would hope to see in a hotel receptionist. I hope my sons are lucky enough to marry women as amazing as Maddie and Rachel. The hotel is amazing, and location couldn't be better. There are multiple hot tubs, a coffee bar, and brewery. You couldn't imagine a better place to say. I love this place.“
“**This review is based on the outdoor seating area and ordering an appetizer and adult beverage only** California burger is located in a pretty cool spot in heavenly village. There is a large amount of outdoor seating with a small stage for musicians to play music for patrons. We scored an outside table after about a 15 minute wait on a Saturday. This is a nice area to people watch, listen to music and enjoy the Tahoe scenery. Our server was quick to greet us and take our orders. I ordered the Shamrockin'. This is an adult milkshake made with Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, Crème De Menthe, Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Chips. This milk shake was awesome and I highly recommend it! I also ordered the buffalo cauliflower. The combination of breading on the cauliflower was delicious and the buffalo gave it a little heat, which was a great combo. A must visit spot for lunch or dinner!“
“Really cute local Boba Tea spot. I personally got the Fire Bear Coffee, which I had no idea what it was fully before I got it.. other than the fact that coffee anything is usually good. But... wow! It was a delicious 4 shot espresso with Boba and torched cream cheese on top. With some drizzle/spice. It was so delicious.Great location, great service, great drink, and a cute store. There was even a little section with Legos you could put on the wall and make your own art. I will definitely be back the next time I get out to Tahoe!“
“Cool place, life music... fun and energetic... This was our 1st time here. The only thing was the service... host did a great job sitting us..The server could have been a bit chill with taking our order, helping with some choices... other than that, we liked the experience and recommended this restaurant. The cocktails were great, burger was very good, huge by the way... the sweet potato fries were awesome..“
“Pricey (but what isn't anymore?). Food excellent. Had Mexican Volcano salad which was very fresh and had a great combination of flavors. Daughter had a tuna melt which was generously served and quite good according to her. Order at counter and food brought to your table. Very clean inside. Not too many people because we were there at 10 AM. First time I have been in a cafe with Enigma songs playing. We are going to make Sprouts our 'get together and catch up' spot in the future.“
“What a cool dive bar. Pool tables, free on Monday nights.. The crowd here is low key on week nights and they have live DJs on the weekends which completely changes atmosphere! the bartender Bryan, I believe, played us in pool. Cool atmosphere… if you’re looking for a place to go to kill some time and have a good time with Authentic people, here is the place to come!“
“Nice place, we were well taken care of. We ordered the vegetarian burrito and the vegan sandwich. They have vegan cheese and beyond meat so it would be nice if there was a sandwich and a burrito that was completely vegan on the menu. The only vegan option at the moment is the vegetable sandwich (in the photo) which is tasty but not enough for those who are hungry. My suggestion is keep the vegetable sandwich on the menu but add some vegan options using cheese and vegan meat“
“Genuinely, I would not have expected the Hilton, where I stayed to have a spot like BMBG. It was a spot that I went to for lunch when I arrived with my friends on the first day of our trip to Tahoe simply because it was convenient. Yet, my whole group kept going back for an after skiing snack and for their pretty impressive drinks. If you are staying in the Hilton, take advantage of having this spot in your hotel. If you are in the area, I'd say it's worth dropping in to try it! Also, go Dale, he is the best!“
“Stellar service with delicious ice cream! My husband and I had just had a bad experience trying to get some simple ice cream cones for our kids, down the road from here.We should have come to Aloha from the get-go.Ordering was quick and easy, the server was a nice, respectable lady and the ice cream was delicious! The kids got kid-sized vanilla ice cream in cups (which were actually kid-sized; not the humongous sugar bombs you get at most places) and hubby got a large container with 3 (generous) scoops which we shared. The rocky road flavour was to die for! The walnuts were waaaaay fresher than most nuts I get at the supermarket and the chocolate and vanilla flavours were excellent and fresh too.We will come here again. Thank you Aloha!“
“Randomly ended up here, but cant wait to go back! Fries were fantastic while the burger was phenomenal. One of the very few establishments I’ve been to that serve Cutwater. 1-2- and done, get you having lots of fun! Cant wait to go back and experience live music on their stage. Make sure to go to JD to serve all your needs.“
“Food was great, Kevin's service was on point, Alana's bar was impeccable but the manager Joeys support and contributions really put the experience over the top. Hard not to love the atmosphere and selection, always a highlight when we come through.“
“Delicious Thai food! Both the fresh, wide noodles of Kee Mao and the Green Curry were amazing. Best restaurant of many that we ate at around Tahoe.Vegetarian options: They offer fried tofu, steamed tofu, and vegetable choices for vegetarians.Parking: Parking lot behind the restaurant.“
“The food and drinks are great! Brandon (bartender) will take good care of you and has good recommendations for local spots if you’re from out of town. Chef Xavier knows what he’s doing and has some interesting takes on traditional pub fare.“
“We ordered 1/2 chicken plate, pork plate, and beef burrito. The chicken was delicious, the chicken breast was flavory and very juicy! At first we thought the chicken was undercooked cause the meat was a bit pink, but the staff told us it is normal for smoked meat. The pork was not bad, soft and fully flavored. The chili on the side has a sweet and sour flavor i liked it a lot! Unfortunately, the burrito was not as ”hearty“ as it was written on the menu, overall it‘s okay.It is a bit cold in the store, and we were the only customer when we got there around 5pm. Would come back again if revisit south lake tahoe.“
“Had a great experience at this place. Got a salad but wasn't a fan on the chicken on top (just my personal preference). They exchanged it for a pizza. Lesson learned, don't get salad at a pizza joint ?. They were understanding. Tht fireplace outside was great for kids. And large area for kids to play. They also have another cocktail bar next door that was amazing.“
“The breakfast burrito with brisket is absolutely the best burrito I've ever put in my mouth. With seasoned slow cooked beef, crunchy hash browns , and eggs it has all the textures to satisfy your breakfast or lunch cravings. I must disclose however , once you try this they're quite addicting and you"ll be craving it often!“
“Had a really nice vegan meal here. Good food all around. What really made the experience was Danny, an employee who works there. I'm not used to seeing people with so much enthusiasm for their work, and who are truly dedicated to providing an excellent customer service experience. If the owner is reading this, I suggest promoting this man, he’s the type of employee you want, who gives customers like myself a good reason to return. Many thanks for the all-round great experience.“
“We live about an hour and a half from Tahoe, so we don't get a chance to eat here often. But when we DO come to Tahoe, Blue Dog is an ESSENTIAL stop while we're here. The food is amazing! It's become our family tradition to come here once or twice in a weekend visit!“
“Nice casual dining experience if you're in the Tahoe area and either coming from the slopes or shopping in the area. Portions are a good size. Service was fast, and friendly. It was a bit cold when we were there but they had live music playing outside which was real nice.“
“This restaurant is a must to eat at while you are in Tahoe! The chef has created amazing flavors and all the food is delicious. The bartenders and servers love their jobs and make you feel like you are the only customer in the restaurant. Great atmosphere!“
“Huge menu with something for everyone but the indoor seating is limited. The burgers are served medium sonic you have a different preference make sure to speak up when ordering. We each enjoyed our choices (Blue Moo, Blazer, chilli beans, zucchini fries)Parking: Limited on-site parking is available…but worth the wait if it busy.Wheelchair accessibility: This is a small space inside and not very wheelchair accessible. However the outdoor dining area appeared very roomy if you have warmer weather than we do in December.“
“This chain doesn't mess around. They deliver the hot suite ground Bean juice and they do it well. Since they branched out to making breakfast they have gotten my attention, but the furniture atmosphere, and vibe have gone downhill in recent years.“
“I go to this place for the Speakeasy towards the back of the restaurant. The Speakeasy is small but has refreshing, delicious cocktails. The mixologists are amazing especially Amanda. I highly recommend visiting this location in South Lake Tahoe.“
“This place was absolutely great. It had that "neighborhood bar" feel, where everyone was comfortable and friendly, and the bartender Charles, did a fantastic job of making us feel welcome. The food was good for the price, and the drink prices were awesome. The music was on point, and we just had a great time there.“
“For breakfast or brunch, this place is hands down the number one locale in Tahoe! Service was impeccable, the food was delicious (a Greek breakfast?! What?!), and there's enough parking for everyone. The Greek breakfast deserves a special place on Yelp. You get gyro meat topped with grilled onions and feta, tzatziki, two eggs your way, pita bread with butter, and breakfast potatoes! That's a wild combo for not much $$$. And you get a view of the lake if you sit outside. This isn't your ordinary brunch joint, y'all. Give this place a shot immediately!“
“This is a great spot to grab some grub on the South Lake Tahoe beach. It was a beautiful day and the outdoor patio was perfect, especially for my furry companion.I had the Pacific Reuben, as suggested by my waitress, and it was delicious! So were the fries!I'll definitely be going back the next time I'm in the area.“
“Selected this place as it was in close proximity to our lodging after a long day on the slopes. We were exhausted and wanted a place where we could walk to and wind down with a cocktail and a view. We ordered a few apps and 2 drinks to split amongst our party of two. Service was prompt and friendly and our food was better than expected. Mahi Tacos: 4/5 the fish was nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked and paired well with the pineapple salsa. I found myself wishing it had a spicy aioli to balance it out. Buffalo cauliflower: 5/5 this was our favorite bite of the night. A flawless marriage of crunch from the crispy batter, spicy flavor from the buffalo seasoning and cooling effect of the cucumber. I would eat this every day if I could and it's something I'm going to try making at home. Burrata: 4/5 we were expecting the dish to be cold but it came out in a VERY HOT crock with herbs and tomatoes with bread to dip. The cooked outside of the cheese had a mild rubbery texture which made it difficult to cut through, but the flavors were so good! We soaked up every bit of the cheesy mixture with the bread leaving no trace behind. We frequent Tahoe from the Bay Area and I would definitely add this place to my list of recommendations to friends and family who visit the area.“
“we were waiting for our food for kind of a while, and half of our party's food came out a whole 15 minutes before everyone else's. however, they gave us a discount as an apology for the wait, and when the food did come out, it was actually quite good. nice, comfy vibe inside too.“
