“The Getaway Cafe is a small restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch, tucked in the woods off U.S. Highway 50 in Meyers, CA, in the Lake Tahoe basin. The restaurant advertises "alpine comfort cuisine" and has been voted as Lake Tahoe's best breakfast and lunch restaurant. The dining room is fairly small, comfortable, rustic and was very warm, thanks to the fireplace. As the restaurant has achieved a reputation for amazing cuisine, the dining room fills up quickly. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. You'll be seated and given a menu, and the friendly staff will treat you like family. From the "Best of the Best" section of the breakfast menu, I went with "The Morning After." Now... that was appropriate, as I'd been up since 04:00 on this Thursday morning. The menu describes this fine breakfast as, "One biscuit topped with two eggs and homemade sausage gravy, with your choice of bacon or sausage links; served with your choice of potatoes. Of course I went with hash browns for my choice of potatoes. Eggs are fried your way, and I went with sunnyside up, as eggs fried that way work well with hash brown potatoes and gravy. I chose sausage links over bacon. Oh yeah! The meal began with a large fresh, in-house baked biscuit, covered in some of the best sausage gravy in El Dorado County or wherever. The menu advertises "one" biscuit, but the "one" biscuit was large and simply did the job. The biscuit was covered with country gravy, two fried eggs were on top of the biscuit, and most of the eggs were covered in gravy. The gravy was thick, rich, seasoned with pepper, and had lots of chunks of sausage. Topping the biscuit and the eggs... this was simply an "oh my" moment! And the hash brown potatoes... I'm still thinking about them as they were as good as it gets. The hash browns were deep fried to a perfect, golden brown on the outside, and white, tender and chewy inside. I loved the amazing crispy outside, that boasted a great "crunch," and the tender inside. The chef has talent, as these hash brown potatoes are the breakfast potatoes that "foodies" dream about. Two links of sausage complimented the meal and helped to make this "The Morning After" breakfast delicious. I simply LOVED this amazing breakfast! All I can say is when you're in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and you're interested in an amazing breakfast The Getaway Cafe should be on your menu. I can't judge what is the best breakfast in the Lake Tahoe area... but I CAN say that the friendly service, the alpine atmosphere and "The Morning After" breakfast I enjoyed not only made my morning, but it made my entire day. When you're in Meyers, CA, and you're looking for an amazing breakfast or lunch, check out The Getaway Cafe. You'll love this fine alpine diner.“
“After visiting Tahoe for years and years I finally decided to check out Magic Fusion. Long story short, I can’t believe we waited so long. Robert Hall was fantastic and my wife and teen kids both had a blast. Don’t read anymore reviews…. Just treat yourself.“
“I came here with a group of 8 on a Saturday and had a wonderful dinner. The restaurant is on the smaller side but the food was exquisite. The restaurant is small and intimate, perfect for a gathering of close friends. It's nice to have conversation in a restaurant and be able to hear everyone. All the dished we ordered came out beautifully presented and tasted so good. Definitely my new favorite restaurant in tahoe!“
“Fabulous find, real home made food that exceeds your expectations for a family diner! Staff is attentive and friendly. Coffee served with real cream and fresh squeezed orange juice was so good!We will be back!Kid-friendliness: Staff quick to offer high chairs or boosters“
“Had a good meal here. The best part was prices below $20. I had the chicken fried steak. The meat was a super soft texture and the hash browns were a bit charred but the flavors were good. My wife had the healthy omelette with turkey and mushrooms. We sat at the bar because the place was fairly full and we had no wait.“
“Nice spot for lunch with a beer or cocktail. Great staff and the owner actively walks around the restaurant checking on her guests. She closed the blinds for us because she saw the sun shining in our eyes. The food was good, and the drinks were delicious. It's worth a visit in your in SLT.“
“Please check out Pretty Odd Wieners!!! Absolutely delicious and unique dogs. We got the reuben and elote dog. So flavorful and wonderful. And the BEST customer service. Bryan and Jill were so spectacular - they have earned lifetime loyal customers. This food truck will be on the list any time we come to Tahoe. Go!“
“Firstly the food is fresh relax. Secondly the service is Tahoe relax. Thirdly the atmosphere is inviting and warm. Everybody relax and enjoy the vibe and the surroundings. Don't cry about waits there are bigger problems in the world we come here cuz it's a community hub we appreciate everything these guys do!“
“Everyone was very friendly. I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. Everything was served right away and was hot. My son had the chicken and waffles. My son is super picky when it comes to food and he didn't enjoy his dish. Chicken wasn't very good. I think it was frozen pre cooked chicken. Sodas come in a huge glass which I loved. Over all great experience and great food. Will definitely be back to try other things!“
“Was crossing through town and was looking for something to eat. Went to another establishment but the vibe felt totally off so I finished my beer and decided on here. Best choice ever! Food was excellent, atmosphere was excellent and most importantly Jenny was awesome. Thank you Jenny!“
“If you like garlic bread... if you like fresh seafood... if you like fun drinks and good beer... do you like chocolate desserts? The staff is excellent and very accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone love what they had. The deck is great even on a windy wet night.“
“Awesome place! Friendly service, Delicious food, fun atmosphere. We came twice during our Lake Tahoe vacation. Awesome fries. Had the build your own burger, fish burger, bison, and elk burgers. The FRIES. All excellent.Kid-friendliness: Great burger, fries, shakes. Kid friendly atmosphere.“
“Heidi's has delicious food and excellent service! My family and I went here and ordered the little boy blue, the Matterhorn, the eggs Benedict plate, and the French toast. They were all really tasty! Their pancakes are sooooo fluffy and soft. The french toast was the best we ever had, and the eggs and bacon also were very good! The workers were very friendly, such as Rosaria and Elizabeth. Definitely coming again next time we visit South Lake Tahoe.“
“Genuinely, I would not have expected the Hilton, where I stayed to have a spot like BMBG. It was a spot that I went to for lunch when I arrived with my friends on the first day of our trip to Tahoe simply because it was convenient. Yet, my whole group kept going back for an after skiing snack and for their pretty impressive drinks. If you are staying in the Hilton, take advantage of having this spot in your hotel. If you are in the area, I'd say it's worth dropping in to try it! Also, go Dale, he is the best!“
“Food was great, Kevin's service was on point, Alana's bar was impeccable but the manager Joeys support and contributions really put the experience over the top. Hard not to love the atmosphere and selection, always a highlight when we come through.“
“A Heavenly Village gem, The Loft is an intimate and vibey spot for dinner and drinks (which were both fantastic). My fiancé and I popped in to see the magic show featuring legendary magicians, Jinger and Kalin. The show was incredibly impressive and both appropriate and entertaining for young and adult audiences. The theatre layout is perfect for up-close magic and makes the crowd really feel involved in the show. The Loft regularly hosts top tier talent, including Murray the Magician, who we’ve previously seen perform—stellar tricks and comedic timing. Definitely recommend checking The Loft for a fun night out!“
“Excellent food and service. I've been here a lot; it's my go-to food in SLT. I love the Jamaican Jerk with tofu, so I get it every time I go. I crave this dish at home in Reno often. It's spicy! I tried the ribs, only a few bites, but they were fire! They also have Pliny the Elder on tap. :-) Service is good. Ambiance is awesome, especially when you sit by the fishies.“
“we were waiting for our food for kind of a while, and half of our party's food came out a whole 15 minutes before everyone else's. however, they gave us a discount as an apology for the wait, and when the food did come out, it was actually quite good. nice, comfy vibe inside too.“
