“The setting of an old house is quaint. Not too stuffy but not too casual either. Parking was a little tight. We were sat right away with our reservation. 6:15 on a Monday, not too busy. The main dining room was a little chilly. We figured they were expecting more customers and it would warm up. Tables are metal legs with wooden tops, chairs were ok and everything was acceptably clean. The hostess was nice, we were given water and menus right away. Menus also included the happy hour specials and a list of bottle wine specials.Happy hour gimlet was good and the local lager was too.The charcuterie board was ok. We stretched it to feed 5. The Sun-choke jelly was ugly but de-li-cious!Our server was personable. We asked questions about the menu and various waitstaff members either could or unfortunately could not answer them. Our impression was that there wasn’t much of a ‘team work’ vibe happening.Beet salad okMushroom soup ok but needed a little kick of somethingThey were out of dumplings! We later found out that a large party of economic conference guests were sat in another room and we figured they were given dibs. We were offered extra sourdough bread which worked out as a good alternative for sopping up the juices. The trout okThe schnitzel was given a 9/10 from everyone who ordered it.We weren’t going to order dessert but because of the “no dumplings” and a late entree, we were comped and we ordered one of each. The lemon cake—needs work, tasted floury and heavyThe chocolate offering— too bitter but…the banana ice cream was amazingThe orange pavlova—-10/10! Best thing we ate—perfect treat. We enjoyed a leisurely very good meal and would recommend this restaurant for adult diners, date night, special occasion, or as a treat. There is outdoor/patio seating.“
“Love going to concerts Sammy this historic theatre. The drinks are always cold, great views no matter where you located in the venue. And they also have a vibey rooftop bar with outdoor seating. If you are attending a show here at the theatre you’ll have a great time!“
“Super friendly staff. Very knowledgeable and willing to help and go the extra mile. Food always looks great. Drinks always taste great. Good place for a chill atmosphere and welcoming vibe. With indoor and outdoor seating you can't go wrong.“
“This was my very first time coming to this location and I have to say the environment is beyond chill, but the very best oart is the staff especially the female bar tender (I wish I got her name) she is super attentive and sweet. The best service I have ever gotten at a bar. I have family that lives here so I will return next time I am in town. I highly recommend to others plus the drinks and reasonably priced! Thank you OG!!Parking: Plenty of parking and easy to find right off the road.“
“There's a reason why this place wins BEST FRIES every year. Legit gastro pub with a well-crafted tap list (Exceptional Anderson Valley beers on my visit). Great bar area with little booths to feel like you are with the gang or on your own.“
“The 40 Watt Club outdid themselves with the REM Murmur anniversery. The band was fantastic, and seeing REM on stage for the first time since 1997 was amazing. I love the venue, vibe, and overall freindliness of the club. One of the last places that puts fans and music as the first priority. This is not a place that is out to make as much money as they can, they make it a place made for people to enjoy music and entertainment. A first class staff and manager. Kudo's, please don't change one thing!“
“A friend of mine and I ventured over to Buvez in search of an improv show and the show and drinks delivered more than I could ask for.I ordered the expresso martini and it was delicious. The expresso in the drink was tasty and carefully roasted and curated! This was some of the best “coffee” I’ve had in Athens. My friend ordered the hibiscus margarita and spoke highly of it.I also loved the sweet, personalized feel of the service here! I’ll definitely be back to get work done and see/do more improv! I’m very impressed and loved that I was able to get a “townie” experience.Parking: There’s plenty of free uncovered parkingnearby.“
“The sandwich I got was absolutely amazing. The bread was toasty but not hard to chew like some other sandwich shops. It was fluffy on the inside, and perfectly crisp on the outside. The sandwich itself is delicious as well, all the flavors complimented each other super well. My friend got a french onion soup, and it was arguably one of the best we've ever tasted. The bread was absolutely perfect, and the soup itself tasted so, so good. Clearly, fresh ingredients are important to this restaurant, and they're not shy about it at all. The service was nice and helpful, and the restaurant itself looked cute. It had a comfortable atmosphere, and I would highly recommend everyone to try the food there at least once!“
“Took my friend to Catch 22 earlier this week for the first time and Really enjoyed everything from the food to the staff. I can’t believe it was my first time going there as I have only heard Great things and I will definitely be going back soon. Bryan Whitlock“
“They actually have multiple mocktail options for those who don’t drink alcohol (such as myself). I really appreciate this, as The Old Pal is a cozy place I like to go to with my friends after rehearsal. Please keep making new mocktails! They are much appreciated.“
“Church is very queer friendly, but I wouldn't say it's a gay bar! Nevertheless, I'm a regular here. Drinks are great! They've got a sangria that is to die for. The bar tenders, Lavarius and Trey also make an amazing whiskey sour.Drinks were relatively cheap. The last time I was here, I had 4-5 drinks and my bill was less than $20! I left a $5 tip.“
“Been going to this bar for a while, only problem I've ever had is not being able to get an old fashion here because they don't have bitters. People say it's racist, redneck, or a bunch of "aggressive idiots" are clearly the kind of people to judge without spending some actual time there. Give it a chance, talk to the staff and people who go there, hangout and listen to country for a bit. I can promise you this, while there may be little things, you won't be entirely disappointed.“
“We came here because Automatic Pizza didn’t have enough seating and they deliver to Normal Bar, which is so convenient. We had 7 people around 7:45 on a Friday night. Normal Bar was already packed, but we got lucky that a table opened up right when we got there.“
“Admittedly, I was a huge fan of Transmet, so when it went OOB I was disappointed. While I will always miss their pizza... Starland Lounge came through with an awesome alternative and something different and better than all the other bars in Athens. Highly recommend Starland, go check it out!“
“The Road House is a quite excellent roomy dive bar located in downtown Athens. It has a split personality. During the day, it's mostly grown up townies and the occasional grown up tourist like me. At night, especially late night, it's PACKED with UGA kids, which it was when I ventured there on my first night in town on a Monday night after navigating the Atlanta airport and the long drive to Athens in a rental from there. The bartender on duty when I went during the day was great. She was friendly and knows her craft. Bartending is a lot more than pouring drinks. I will go so far as to say the pouring and making of drinks is almost incidental to the craft, which means maintaining a safe, fun, and welcoming atmosphere that makes people want to come back all while pouring and making drinks, running tabs, ringing up orders, handling old schoolers like me who pay and tip in cash as they go, washing glasses, and so forth. The prices are more than reasonable. For instance, during happy hour (2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.) my usual order of a Makers rocks and a good beer was $10.50. Off happy hour it would be $12.50, which is still more than reasonable in my experience.I will certainly stop in again when I return to Athens next year.Cheers!“
“I like this place and the staff is always great, I'm always treated with respect. The tables are pretty good shape and the food seems good as well. It's nice to have some pool playing available as there is not much to pick from in this area. The only complaint is there is always a group of loudmouths that yell across the room to their friends that are way over to the other side of the room. Can't you just be courteous and get a table closer together.?Otherwise it's great.“
“Raffertys is great! I had never been here before and a friend said we should go!! Our server was so nice and I had a blast!! The steak was cooked perfectly! Medium rare! And the mushroom appetizer was delicious! Not to mention I was able to peer up and see the scores of the games on about 50 different tvs there! I had a really good time!“
“It's my favorite bar ever. Divey and eclectic atmosphere with smarmy yet sweet bartenders. There's movies projected (with complimentary popcorn) or live music played more often than not, and local art is always on display. What more could I ask for? They stay open later than most bars. It's not really a selling point. Be careful going to any bar after 12 am).“
“Favorite bar in Athens. The personnel here, including Jeff, are outstanding people with elite bartending skills and values. Best conversations and drinks in town. Bartender rates: Sikes > Alex > Warrior > Baggs. Best bar back = JT > Jack. Worst regular = Chad, best regular = Corinna.“
“Sometimes you just want a cold beer, a decent glas of wine or a strong mixed drink — in a happy place with friendly service!Allgood Lounge is all that and a little more.Ample of bar seating and even a few spots outdoor. If only due to COVID-restrictions drinks weren’t served in plastic cups. Until next time!“
“Really intimate restaurant with low lighting and vintage decorations. Food options are fairly limited. We enjoyed the fish & Chips but were annoyed to be charged $1 for an extra tiny serving of tartar sauce for a two piece serving of fish. Cocktails were potent & good but extremely expensive and really small. Service was good.“
“We've gone to the basement of the route several times and it's always pretty quiet. They do some specials with wings and other food items and it's delicious. I don't want to blow them up too much because it's nice to be able to go in there and get good service and quick service and good food without too many crowd. Their staff is awesome. Their bartenders know what they're talking about. They got a great collection of scotch, whiskeys and beers and it's pretty spacious inside. The only drawback to this place really is Parking but if you get creative, it's pretty good. Looking forward to more events thereand going back again to see some friends and grab a drink and they're wonderful staff.“
“Very cute new wine bar in Five Points! The interior is cozy and well decorated, with plenty of tables available and some couches by the window. I got the Hugo Spritz, and my boyfriend got the Barbarossa. Both cocktails were great-- mine was light and refreshing, not overly sweet. This is definitely on the pricier side-- drinks were around $15 each. Service was excellent and quick! You order at the bar and then they bring everything out to you. Definitely recommend this place, great for a date night or any kind of a get together.“
“This is truly a hidden treasure of Athens! Unique, delicious, and worthy of recognition. This was my first time here and will be coming back for certain. We had the Dominican Sliders as an appetizer, then I had the Sandwich Especial and my wife had the Churasco. All were full of flavor and our waitress was polite and helpful.“
“Our favorite restaurant in Athens, by far! Service and food have always been top notch. I love that the owner mingles with the patrons. It is quaint and has a wonderful vibe. We love having a variety of things to try that comes with a tapas menu. The pimento cheese crostini are my favorite, with the okra and sliders a close second - simply delicious. The restaurant has a bar downstairs with a more casual atmosphere. My husband and I would love to eat here more often if parking weren't such a challenge, but that's part of being in such a charming and popular area of town!“
“I went there to see and hear Perry D'Andrea sing Sinatra, and enjoyed the other attendees as well. Bartender got creative; loved the concoction she dreamed up for me. The place has barstools and booths, intimate lighting, and a separate area for folks to play pool, all of which allow a good view of the stage. There are special engagements on a wall calendar, and the regular show is on the last Thursday of every month. Y'all come by and set a spell, you never know who you might meet there on any given evening. You might meet a stranger, and leave with yet another friend on your contact list, haha!“
“A decadent treat in the midst of chaos. An innocent blast; EVERY TIME I've been! And the times when I have went in there and haven't even ordered a drink and there's no pressure they're cool with you just playing video games hanging out drinking soda pop.“
“One of my most visited and favorite bars/ venues /hangs in Athens. The building is beautiful, and the atmosphere is quirky vintage eclectic, and the best thing about all of it is that nothing here takes itself too seriously. The boat in the back is my favorite place to discuss the business of living. It's always a great time, and the staff is unbeatable.“
“Got drinks here before the Georgia, Mizzou game. Lots of Mizzou fans here. We were wondering if this was an opposition pub for Georgia games. We're Mizzou fans. Everyone was very nice and welcoming here. Very good service. We walked around and discovered the upstairs Tiki Bar, very cool. It was less crowded upstairs so we sat there and enjoyed our drinks and the music. Of course they had the other college games on. Not sure I'll be back in Athens but we'd return here if we ever come back.“
“Really, really, good food! Generous protein portions and all the side dishes were seasoned nicely. The cocktails were good also but oh my, it came with fancy cocktail price, without any frills. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. Nice, clean place.“
“We had a large group of 12 people. Heaven was our waitress and she was AMAZING! She stayed on top of it the whole time with refills and replacing chips. The food was quick to come out and delicious. Heaven even helped us out with a group picture as we aren't able to see each other often! It was very enjoyable!“
“Came here with my wife and we had an excellent time, the oysters were fresh and the food was so good, I got the salmon pesto pasta and she got the scallops and it was definitely worth the money. Our server Lily was knowledgeable of the menu and made sure my wife and I had a great anniversary, we will be back soon.“
“Beer is really more than on average. HighNoon was 6.25They have a very few local beers and miller light mostly anheuser-busch products on tap and in bottles/can. As we no longer buy anheuser-bush products due to there past advertising mistakes. We got a bit thirsty. The atmosphere is great the staff was very professional and friendly. The band we went to see, Grains of Sand were very entertaining.“
“Love the World Famous. This is a locals spot that truly rocks. The bar food is unparalleled and the drinks are amazing. Get the poutine and add the pork if you eat meat. Try the SUNBOY Spiked Coconut Water if you want to have a hydrating coconut cocktail. This place is a must visit in Athens.“
“So, so good. Best bbq in Athens in my humble opinion. If you can impress my dad, you've really got something special. From salads to sandwiches to limitless sauces, this place is great for a chill lunch and an afternoon hangout. I can't forget to mention how kind and welcoming the staff were too! Definitely recommend you check this place out.“
“What a fantastic place! From the extremely friendly and knowledgeable bartenders, to the pleasant and accessible management, to the unique drink menu, this place is one of a kind! Enjoy the fun of karaoke or a great dj, sample the one-of-a-kind drinks, have fun with patrons that exemplify the meaning of friendly, Sake Mama will exceed your expectations! Did I mention Emily, Hanna, and the tall girl whose name escapes me, but made a lasting impression! And let’s not forget Jun and Jun!“
“So let's talk about the Butt Hutt!!!! Trivia is an amazing time!!!! So we will start there, great time and laid back atmosphere. The host is a good time and the wait staff if on point for how busy they get. Some of the other customers take it too seriously in my opinion, but other than the buzz kills in the crowd they have great drink deals and the food. Now that we have arrived at the food, it's time to sit down and have a talk..... *queue chefs kiss* this little gem we found! Normally BBQ is a HUGE let down. Literally everywhere. We were skeptical at first but since we arrived super early we decided to give them a shot and boy were we fat and happy about it. We started with the brisket, num num num. it was super tasty and flavor was on point. You didn't need sauce but if you got it, they were all on point, you won't be disappointed. We got onion rings for the side and it brought back memories of getting onion rings at the shore in Jersey. Idk if they were battered in beer but I sure was! Fast forward through a couple of pitchers of epic beer prices and we arrive at the pulled pork homemade potato chip plate appetizer meal thing (I don't remember the name but I sure remember the flavor cause my mouth is watering typing this!) y'all run, don't walk seriously RUN, to this establishment and if you don't do anything else today, you must get here and order this dish!!!! Idk if it is the beer talking or not, but smother that bad boy in the hot bbq sauce and float away into fat kid heaven. I did not care how messy it was, cause I was all in with no eff's given. I'm pretty sure I looked like my tween-age daughter that time I took her to Tuscaloosa to try dreamland bbq (which if you've never been there you better run that way too). I'm talking BBQ sauce all over my face lol. Seriously go support this business so great places like this don't go under!“
“Their welcoming team was excellent. After a terrible experience at the restaurant next door we went here with 12 girl volleyball team and 14 parents. Even though we had no reservations they expedited clearing some tables and set all of us up for lunch in 10 minutes.Food was very good and great drinks for the parents. We all had a great experience. The servers did very good job handling such a large group and gave us all separate checks.“
“A solid 4 stars for one of the only rooftop bars in Athens! A bar in close proximity to Sanford Stadium, this place is on the roof of the Hyatt Place in Downtown Athens. Great drinks, beautiful views of downtown and great food to accompany the drinks. The service was great and the prices were decent. We will be back!“
“Went here with a large group (20 people) on a Friday. They were able to accommodate our reservation at very short notice. Basically no one else was at the establishment. The whole group had a great time throwing axes and their staff was attentive without being overbearing. They also had some drinks and snacks for sale and some non-axe related activities. My arm was sore after all the axe hurling but that is because I'm not used to such activities. WARNING they do not have any parking. You have to pay for downtown street parking.“
