We've rounded up Oakwood's top Mexican spots for you to try.
“This place has a special place in my heart. Back when I used to go to Gainesville college (before it became UNG), my friends and I would come here for their pupusas. For just $8 bucks (back then) or less, it would be enough to fill us for the day. I came when it first opened and the interior is still the same. It's dark and not a place I would say cozy. The only thing on their menu that I always come back and back again is their tamales. It's different than the regular tamales that you're used to. It's made out of potatoes instead of corn so the texture is soft and melts in your mouth. Their seasoning is just right; actually, it's perfect in my opinion. Since my UNG/Gainesville day, I have moved to Cali and have tried high and low, near and far, all the Salvadorian places I can find. No places tamales match this place. Every time I come home to GA for a visit, I would always make sure to stop by. I had their pupusas and tacos before but it's been awhile. I remember them tasting pretty good. Maybe I should order some next time. Their melon drink is the best. Not too sweet, not too strong in melon flavor. Its honestly perfect in my option.“
“have things been seeming different to you? are you light headed and hazy? experts theorize that we have all, or maybe just some of us, have slipped into an alternate dimension, and this taco bell in lustrous Oakwood, Georgia is proof.in what many have joked can be a very mid experience, i was not expecting much. it’s totally fair to say that by the fact stated , it should have been easy to exceed my expectations. the store was clean. everyone was working on cleaning from after their rush except for the beautiful souls who happened to make my order. with the addition of their signature taco bell “hot sauce” my two burritos and one taco were beyond exceptional. the crispness of the tortilla combined with the fresh, warm ingredients made for such a satisfying late dinner. thank you. i don’t know exactly what’s going on here but if i can get amazing food like this, i guess i’m cool with it. you’re so beyond appreciated Vegetarian options: if you didn’t know and you’re reading this, they will literally put any combination of ingredients into a container for you to consume. you’re welcome.“
“Service was great! Esmeralda was wonderful and very knowledgeable! First time for going to this new restaurant, ambiance was amazing and will for sure be back! Steak fajitas were awesome and my jalepeno margarita was the best I've had!!“
“Yuri M has been the best waitress I've had at Senor Fiesta. I didn't have to ask for anything as she was very observant. I will be requesting her anytime I eat in here in the future. They should be proud to have such a wonderful employee.Kid-friendliness: She also allowed my kid to tell her about his broken arm. Fabulous lady!“
“Really awesome place to eat awesome food. Watch out for the large specialty drinks they come in aquarium 40+oz size, and the staff are amazingPortions are HUGE come empty and leave fullLots of steak on the nachosThey make this fat man really happyParking: If the lot is full, just park at pallet sales across the streetWheelchair accessibility: The staff is so awesome that if you can't get in, they would probably carry you in unless you are the 600-pound sisters, then you might get rolled in oompa-loompa style“
“Wish I could leave more stars for service. What an incredible experience overall! Place was PACKED when we arrived, owner reserved a table for us while we were waiting, food was absolutely delicious - and MASSIVE portions (my chorizo burrito won). And to top it off, we were provided churros since we were patient and smiled at the owner.Wish we lived closer, this was a great place to get a big, welcoming meal“
“Not sure who the manager is here, but they do an amazing job at training. Place was packed on a Friday, but the servers didn't seem overwhelmed or flustered. Juan was great, personable, and attentielve. We just moved to Buford from Sugar Hill, so we know many of the local spots and this was one of the best. Service amazing. They all work together. Everyone was well connected and knew when the food was taking a little longer than usual. Victor was awesome as well. Very aware, energetic, and made sure the food came out great. The food: some of the best I've had on the north side. I got the Whole Snapper(under 20 bucks, which is a great deal) . My wife got the quesatacos with chicken. Definitely the best we have had. Better than Bravos. My daughter got the burrito and rice. All very good. Margaritas were made well and appropriately priced. This will be one of our new spots for sure. Highly recommend. Ask for Juan and Victor. Visit CDEATSATLANTA on tiktok for a review soon!“
“When it comes to bringing you the freshest, most delicious food you could ever imagine Vicky's Tacos sets the bar very high. The gentleman at the counter is exceptional at what he does. Nothing will come close to the quality and mouthwatering food that they serve. Out of all the places I've tried, Tacos Veloz, El Carreton, Taco Fiesta, Taqueria Silao, Carnes en Vara Barinas Grill. Vickys Tacos is the best and its not even close. Atmosphere is clean and welcoming. Id recommended everyone stop by and give this place a chance, you won't regret it.“
“So normally I would never stop at any restaurant directly next to a gas station.... With that being said I am extremely glad that I stopped here. This place is absolutely delicious and I try to stop every time I pass by... Shrimp tacos and the burritos are amazing...“
“Where to begin...? If you've been to the real Mexico, you'll know when you enter Consuelo's that you've just crossed the border and an authentic dining experience awaits. From the pre-dinner Mezcalita & Paloma to the queso fundido, handmade tortillas, the carne en su jugo, the huarache, and the enchilada trio - they were all authentic and as you will find in the finest establishments in Jalisco. We finished with charcoal ice cream (nieve) topped with a berry compote. The service??? World class service by Santiago and a visit to our table by the restaurant manager - Christian to ensure our smiles and ooo's & ahhhh's were real. If you love authentic Mexican food, you owe it to yourself to visit Consuelo's!“
“The hostess Joselyn was very respectful.she made everything easy every time I go into cabos and she’s the hostess she nice and she makes everything easy not one time I’ve gotten any bad attitude or anything from her.Parking: Everything good it’s a nice place good food good Place to eat.“
“Pretty great tacos. Location is within a gas station, but don't let that fool you. The tacos I tried were great. There are not a lot of topping options, you choose between about 3 meats, but the quality is there and fresh. The pricing is fair as well.“
“Delicious, fresh and family-friendly. The staff are so kind and accommodating. The place is very clean, especially the restrooms, which is a big plus. My kids love the food. Great portions! While we waited for our meal, we really enjoyed looking at the beautiful murals.“
“I've had like 30 tacos since my last post. All of them being Al Pastor tacos. I can still say I haven't had a bad taco yet. The bank account isn't getting hit hard either with the low prices! I still get a drink as well! Amazing place! Almost heaven!“
“The food here is 5 stars…. 6 stars…. However many you want to give. Love the burritos and tortas. Highly recommend. Service is pretty good and the atmosphere is not bad…. Little dirty at times with the music a little loud. But, the food is where it’s at.“
“The flavors are all authentic. I only ordered a steak burrito but it tastes just like this place I used to go to in Oklahoma called El Pollo Regio (El Pollo Regio was also attached to a gas station so that’s how I knew this place was legit lol). This place brought back so many happy memories from when I was growing up, and now i can finally have a taste of home all the way on the east coast.“
“We came to celebrate my MIL Birthday. This was everyones first time. We will definitely be back again. Everyone loved the food. Our service was amazing! Angel made our night. All of the staff& the manager went above&beyond. We will definitely come back.“
“Me and my little brother decided to get some Mexican food after golfing and found this place near by, so we decided to stop by. Everything was delicious, I got two quesadillas and he got 4 steak tacos, and the prices were very reasonable service was great!“
“Have never been to the actual place before. I have always went to the other Mexican restaurant beside Publix, But I don't think I'm going there anymore. I think I found the exact Mexican food. I've been looking for outstanding, amazing. The best tacos I've ever had.“
“AMAZING FOOD (BETTER THAN EL SOM AND SEÑOR FIESTA), GREAT SERVICE, AND CLEAN BATHROOMS!It was my first time here, and our server was a nice man with a ponytail and he wore a face mask. He was so kind, patient, and gave us his recommendations on food (also note, the menu was in English). Each time he brought us something, he would come quickly to ensure we got to eat as soon as possible. He checked on us a few times, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious! The esquite appetizer was very different, and roasted well. The fish tacos were tangy with coleslaw and slightly spicy. The aguas frescas are super refreshing, but not overly sweet. The food is definitely different than Mexican food from “El Sombrero” or “Señor Fiesta.” It was unique and much tastier. The place was fairly quiet, not too loud with music or television. The bathrooms were single stalls (1 for men, 1 for women), and were very clean. No complaints. Honestly, I’m surprised that it wasn’t packed on a Saturday night. Hopefully my review changes that. (: I will absolutely be back!Vegetarian options: Esquite, guac, beans and rice, veggie fajitas, quesadillas, tres leches cake, molten lava cake“
“If you like suadero and el pastor you have to visit this taqueria. Without a problem I could say that it is the best brisket and shepherd that I have tried in Georgia. The tacos have 100% Mexican flavor. Super recommended. It will become my favorite taqueria.“
“Yummy I love the fish tacos and the rice and beans. The chicken and rice soup is fantastic too! Love these guys!Dietary restrictions: Gluten free fish tacos!!! Of course chips and salsa and caldo de polloParking: Some saved for restaurant huge lot though“
“I went a week or so ago and had the best experience with the Manager. I can’t remember her name but she was amazing!!! I ordered two hard shell tacos and a frozen mango margarita. My only negative is that the taco shells seemed a bit stale. I’m going to go back and repeat my order to see. Either way the service was AMAZING!!!“
“Let me start by saying I eat a lot of Mexican food. I eat it a couple times a week. This is the best burrito I've ever had. The flavor is amazing and every bite had a cheese pull! I've never had a burrito like that. It's like a burrito quesadilla fusion and I love it! Will be back soon.“
“one of my favorite spots for food and relaxing! I feel great here. I usually get tacos; the ladies at register always make sure they are getting my order right. The food always tastes authentic, and the drinks are amazing! I really like their horchata and jugo de jamaica. overall it’s 100% worth the time and money, the workers are very kind people as well :)“
“Best service!!Best food!!Best atmosphere!!Always on point!Absolutely love this place! My grandchildren love the food and the employees!!Kid-friendliness: My grandchildren greet the employees just like family! As well as the employees greet them as family also“
“Firstly, I want to give it 5 stars out of 5. The food was exquisite. The Cuban cake is finger-licking good and comes with tasty Milanese, egg, ham, leg, fresh cheese. The other tasty asada cakes have fresh cheese giving them a good flavor. I bought some very delicious suadero tacos in Gainesville, it's the first place I've seen that offers suadero tacos, no one else has them, at least in the places I've eaten. The red sauce was very tasty, the green sauce was exquisite, the guacamo sauce was delicious. The only thing that looked bad about me was the onion for my tacos, but that was a solution, it wasn't a problem. I recommend this place, I don't give it 5 stars just because the food has to be very good for me to rate it 5.I am giving 5 out of 5 stars the food is delicious. The sauces are to die for, I do recommend the Cuban Torta if you are a Torta lover you will love this one. And on tacos I do recommend suadero very juicy and soft tender meat. I do recommend this restaurant 100 % the only thing they dissapointed me was that they forgot my onions for my tacos, but that was not an issue at all. If you want good tacos and good cakes and tasty salsa visit this place. You will not regret it.Today November the 8th came by and tried their tacos de trompo I gave them a 3 out of 5 just because the meat has a lack of flavor the salsa macha is pretty spicy but good flavor come and tried them to see if you like them“
“Quaint authentic Mexican restaurant. Having lived 6 years in Mexico, I know authentic! I ordered the Torta Regia. LOADED with refried beans, pineapple, country fried thin steak, lettuce, tomato, avacado, jalapeño, and panela cheese. SO GOOD!Very friendly staff. Google says they're open until 9pm. We showed up just before 8. We realized they were closing after we ordered, but they were super friendly and not annoyed at us. All the staff wore masks, and wore them PROPERLY. Very happy about that. We don't live in Gainesville, but we will come back!!“
“The staff is very polite it has gone up in price but the food is so worth it I didn't take a photo cause I was too hungry and scarfed down the food. I highly recommend waterboarding your tacos or burritos in the green sauce or the red if you like it spicer.“
“Amazing restaurant! One of THE best places to eat for breakfast, brunch, or lunch in the Gainesville area.Incredible food for the price! All prepared with love and attention. The breakfast tacos ( more like burritos ) are well worth the money! Especially the steak egg and cheese for $5!The breakfast enchiladas are unique and delectable. Basically an enchilada with scrambled egg, cheese, and meat depending on what one you order. If you order a plate breakfast, not a taco or sandwich, you get a generous portion of refried beans, potatoes, or rice. Any time I'm near Haydees I make sure to stop in and eat as they have more than earned my business. The fresh handmade tortillas are a treat and I could just eat them as a meal. The red salsa provided on the table has good heat with a nice garlic taste. The green salsa pairs well with beef and milder compared to the red salsa. The staff is incredible. They're extremely friendly and on top of their game to ensure you are well taken care of during your visit. Even if you are just getting food to go, they are super sweet and conversational. The restaurant is always clean and orderly. Even when it's bustling with customers, they keep it top-notch clean, all the while attending to the patrons dining in at the same time. The only issue I have is parking, it's a small, tight lot and depending on when you visit you'll struggle to find parking. When you do visit just make note of the time and the parking lot, so you can avoid busy times and slip in and out for a meal.If you're in the area, I definitely recommend them if you enjoy good home cooked authentic Mexican food. I can't rave enough about this place.“
“This place has been around for awhile and I had never tried it until recently. The food is very good and the portions are large. Pricing is average and the location is next to a main road with easy vehicles parking. Definitely worth a try, I will be going back for sure!Parking: Plenty of parking and easy access in and out.“
“Went last Sunday afternoon with friends and they had live music which was awesome! I don't eat meat but I asked if they could make me a bean, rice, nopal, and avocado burrito, and they did! Friendly staff and the restaurant is decorated really nice after the remodel. Michelada was also DELICIOUS. Will be going back!“
“Possibly the best tacos in Atlanta! We got a Michelada, which was big enough for 2 people, and has tajin around the edge. Great way to start. I got a cheese quesadilla, which was perfectly crispy and very rich for just being a cheese quesadilla. Then I had an American Taco (ground beef, cheddar, lettuce, in a crunchy taco) which was perfect! And don't forget the chorizo taco! That was great as well. I might be making the trek to Oakdale from Atlanta more often! Oh and get the horchata! It's homemade and delicious and refreshing“
