“The Bamboo Restaurant is an iconic historic establishment in Hawi. It's history goes back to early 1900s when it served as a hotel for the local workers. Converted into a restaurant, art gallery and store, the Bamboo Restaurant is a must visit place when going to Hawi. We visit Bamboo whenever we return to Kona-Kailua. Yesterday we ran in out of the rain and wind to have a wonderful lunch of fresh grilled Ono with pineapple salsa, Stir fry chicken with Thai sauce over rice and stir fry Ono with Thai sauce over soba noodles. All the dishes were excellent. We were greeted warmly when we ran in wet and seated immediately. It was about 11 AM so the restaurant was not crowded at all. Be sure to read the history of the establishment printed on the back of the menu. This place is part of old Hawaii, and it was fun to imagine when the workers were staying there when it was a hotel/boarding house. After lunch we spent to going through the art gallery upstairs and visiting the great store on the same floor as the restaurant. The store features many items from local Hawaiian artists. The Bamboo Restaurant is definitely worth a visit next time one visits the big island!“
