“This place had a line of people every night. We tried 3 different udon options. My favourite was the curry nikutama. It was great that the line went quick and the food was ready on the spot. However, back in Melbourne this would be considered more of a food court type of place or Asian food that is much cheaper. Being here it works because it is one of the cheaper options compared to other restaurants, but back in Melbourne this would be considered extremely expensive (especially for our currency rate at the moment).“
“Great service, exceptional sushi! Always fresh. We usually get take out because their dine in area is on the smaller side, but either way, it's an amazing experience eating in or taking out. Our favorite rolls are "hamachi machi" & "dancing shrimp"“
“There are some free parking spots behind the restaurant. The menu has a huge section and I got a combo of spring rolls, pho and a drink for less than 20 dollars!! The food protein was satisfying, I even took the leftover home as a second meal.Everything was really fresh and delicious!! The lemonade was probably the best one I've ever had! It's homemade freshly juiced lemonade!!If you love spicy food, definitely try the chili sauce they put on the table!! It's so flavorful and really hits the spot! This cute family style restaurant is really clean and the staff was really nice, the combo comes with coffee or tea but I couldn't have caffeine so they gave me the lemonade instead which was really sweet of them!I will definitely return and try out more items next time!!“
“I arrived and started looking over the menu and at all of their different sushi/bento combos. Very overwhelming to navigate for my first time, but no big deal I eat sushi 100+ times /year. Sometimes every day twice a day.I ended up ordering the salmon/ahi poke bowl along with a samurai Maki. I also tried to order a "tuna avocado maki". This is where my problems started. The guy taking orders told me "we don't have that on the menu". I asked, can you make it for me and charge whatever you need to charge. He doubled down and said "we can't do that. We can make the spicy ahi Maki or an ahi hand roll and add avocado". Again I said, I don't want that. That comes with cucumber and spicy tuna. I would like a Maki roll with ahi tuna and avocado, that is all.At this point he still refused to make it so I said forget it, ill just stick with the poke bowl and samurai roll. When my food arrived (I ate in the location), he pushed the tray too hard at me and spilled the miso soup. (Not a lot, but I could tell he didn't like me from our exchange about the tuna avocado Maki and this was probably a subconscious action. He asked if I wanted another, I said no its fine.Lastly, the spoon for the miso soup is basically flat. I had a very difficult time eating with the spoon because you can't pick up any liquid with it. I ended up just picking up the bowl and drinking. The flavor and quality of the sushi was excellent and I had no issues along those lines.I hope this review helps the owner / management correct a few service related issues to improve this location!“
“Second time here and ordered the salmon poke and spicy ahi over half hapa rice and half salad. And the icing on the cake, shrimp tempura! They offered a fountain drink with purchase too! Wow!! Very fresh fish and presented very well with the perfect portion size. So important even with poke bowls. It has to be the right amount of rice to fish. Flavors were on par and one of better poke places on island!! They do get busy but they give great customer service and knows how to handle their customers. Can't wait to dig in again!“
“I'm an ass, I have been selfishly stalling on this review because I don't want it to be so crowded they turn me away. I really enjoy the homey feels of their food. Even when the man grouchy you cannot taste it in his food it still tastes good. I maybe tried only like 3 things because it's hard to change when you ono for something and that something is so good you scared the next thing going make you wish you had the other thing. Hamburger steak is that thing. I don't know how they make the mochiko chicken so lightly fried almost like tempura. I like that there is a sauce for it. I want to tell you what the worst thing is but I cannot get past the first few things to try everything on the menu ..I want to, but chances are everything is great. This is a take out only -you can blame the pandemic on that. There are a few parking stalls in the building. Follow them on instagram @ethelsgrill_kalihi because they tell you when the hours are. Which is not open Sunday Mondays and when they need a break from a holes like me and sometimes they have tsukemonos, natto thingies, & special made desserts on the days I cannot go. So let me tell you the coolest thing is the actual people of bobs burgers (the show) made a cartoon of Ethel's and it looks just like them as if they stepped out of that cartoon. Freakin awesome but so is the girl who runs this place.“
“A very nice surprise when my daughter took me here today. The hot sour soup was excellent and the only thing I didn't like was that the noodles were super slippery and hard to grasp with the chopsticks. But the flavors were spot on and the fried calamari appetizer was Ono. No sauce needed for the calamari. The pancake (soufflé) strawberry dessert was also delish and don't forget the ice cream with the dessert. My daughter forgot to order the vanilla scoop for $2. This place is a must try if you're in Pearlridge.“
“The best Thai chicken since living here for decades, mindful of our trips to Thailand, but here perfectly spiced, like having your very own Band of Earth Angel Cooks. The mother and daughter team of Ace and Ci is unbeatable in that really care, having a delicate touch and approach to their cuisine. The fish and chips are light, white and flaky, reminding us of our favorite flaky fish in Northern England and Scotland. They offer a gluten free version breaded in corn starch, which is scrumptious and healthy.Just another reason why we say, LUCKY LIVE HAWAII. Aloha Nui Loa“
“Tasty food, portions are large, reasonably priced or cheaper than other places, friendly and hard working staff! This place is easy to find with good amount of shared parking in the front of their restaurant. They can get busy (i went on a weekend) because of course a good place will be busy. So there may be a wait. I've seen at the time I went 3 staffs working hard, cooking and serving a bunch of people. Be patient and kind. They also have when available ready to eat bentos under the heater for a grab and go to eat. About $7. And the menu has a huge variety of all kinds of food! Yum!“
“A great evening with excellent service from the waiting staff Ke-Von and Ace for support. The ambiance is fantastic with outside sitting overseeing the ocean. The food especially appetizers when to die for. My main course was fair but not anything I would go for again. I had the shrimp pad thai. (Generous on the shrimp and tofu). Overall, if you want some elegance and relaxation with friends this is a good place to eat.“
“The place has changed a lot in the 7 years since I've been here. First, it's no longer in the pagoda (that's now a Russian/Korean restaurant)! So, no more views of the koi pond as you eat. The food was good, and the portions large, but still a bit salty for my taste. The service, I must say, was outstanding. All the staff were attentive and friendly.“
“I attended a baby shower for my nephew and his wife, who flew in from CA. My other nephew and his family (who live in Maui) hosted the party for about 30 family members in a private room upstairs. It's been years since my last visit here, and I remember the food always being good, and it was. We had a choice of different entrees, and I chose the Miso Butterfish. Some others had chicken karaage, but they all were delicious. They were served "Teishoku" style, so included a salad, miso soup, tempura, and six pieces of California roll. There was also vanilla ice cream for dessert. The service was good, with just two or three servers for our room. They took care of us and made sure our water and hot tea were kept filled. We were allowed two hours for our party, and although we went slightly long (what local family gathering doesn't?), we never felt rushed or pressured to clean up or leave. It's a pretty popular dining spot, especially among the local Japanese, but anyone who likes good Japanese food will find it enjoyable.“
“If you're looking for delicious and quick meals this is the place to grab one of many bentos and bowls and more. Such a variety of assortments and it comes with a bottle water. Walk right in head towards the right and you'll end up making a figure eight route to the cashier. Only takes a few minutes depending how quick your decision making is on what to consume. I like the Salmon Dynamite bentos and eggplant with tofu. The only downside is they don't stay open very late. I suppose the staff comes in very early to prepare all the meals so that's a behind the scenes thing most don't see. That is just my assumption. They probably also do catering so that maybe another reason. Again not sure. In any case this is a great place to try and eat. Need quick meals for an event or party. Very convenient and of good value. Just gather up some cold drinks and or hot tea and you're all set. Aloha!“
“Location is great Free parking is awesome Selection of booths are minimal but decentMore booths would be greatFresh produce selection was decent. Could be better but the prices and quality is really goodFood booths are good but need more to choose from I definitely recommend Pets are welcome unlike California Farmers Markets“
“Located at Sand island just off the Mauka bound at the Diamond head side of Sand Island access road, here is this little shop with a few tables inside, I want a Vietnamese sandwich and I call to placed my order, friendly staff, sandwich ready I just 5 to 10 minutes. The sandwich is well packaged and they accept credit card payment even for just a sandwich. There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the area but lot of them do not offer sandwiches any more. There is not much parking in front of the restaurant so you may have to wait for the parking.“
“Please read the names of the people leaving the reviews!!! If they are from “Dan” “Nick” or any other Haole then of course it will be negative reviews. If the names are from people of culture and world travelers then you know the food is AMAZING!!! We had the bulgogi that my daughter said it was better than I make and I am a native Korean. The kalbi ribs were so good that my son asked if we could get some to go for later. The food is TRADITIONAL KOREAN… Not American Korean or LA Korean. The Kimchee was perfect. The mando (pot stickers) were like the street food I have had in Seoul. And the garlic shrimp was absolutely delicious. Banchan was fresh and homemade and plenty off food. The prices are really good for the quality and flavor. And the service was excellent. The atmosphere is casual and the outside seating is really nice. Great place and I can’t wait to come back.“
“Online order was great, printed labels on each container is one good idea. It was buddy but good was hot and fresh. With the first time using the app to order, there was a $10 discount making our meal less than $10 per person. The staff was working hard being busy, but someone was designated to fill online order so I didn't wait long.“
