We stopped in in Coq D'Or within the Drake hotel on Chicago's magnificent Mile during a shopping trip before christmas. This restaurant and bar in the basement level of the historic Drake hotel was warm and cozy. We especially appreciate that they had a live piano player who sort of did a rousing set of sing-along songs like a dueling piano bar. The service was quick and courteous, and our flatbread pizza was wonderful and drinks were served quickly and correctly.
This local hotel bar/restaurant has great potential. The vibe is club-like and old school. It caters to tourists, even though there are plenty of neighborhood regulars. Food is really good, but presentation and quality are inconsistent. The team tries and often makes us feel like welcome regulars, but other times, service is cold and slow. Coq d'Or serves a local and tourist crowd. The vibe is old-school hotel bar. Last night was a local night. Fairly quiet, attentive service, good food. We had crabcakes (excellent), tacos (a little less good than last visit), and an enormous grilled mahi mahi salad (definitely for sharing). Great cocktails and nice selection of wines by the glass.
