“I recommend nothing after seeing how terribly they treated a customer this afternoon at the medford sq location. guy came in to pickup pre-ordered cake that was paid for. he was told they didn't have the cake. no apology, no offer deliver cake in the morning.....NOTHING. THE customer finally asked for the only 2 cakes left which were much smaller than cake ordered. he wanted happy birthday written on the cakes and was told it couldn't be done....not sure why. 30 minutes before closing time. the beaten down guy said...I'll take those 2 cakes in replace of the cake I ordered that you failed to make. I was literally floored when the kid behind counter said ...we can't just give you those cakes. you have to pay for them. this could have been handled so many ways better. and again, not one we are sorry. none of the stuff here is anything great...the guy should have went and got a cake at the grocery store. when businesses mistreat and disrespect their customers that's it for me. modern pastry is a small business....I've seen customers treated much better at wal.art and Costco. shame on modern pastry“

I had never had cold udon noodles before, and it was great!Interior is cute with some nice decor and plenty of seating. Service was nice, quick, and attentive.FOOD:~Cold Uni Udon (5/5): Cold dish! I love uni and ikura, so this hit the spot. The broth/sauce was a dashi flavor. Mixed it all up and was the perfect balance of umami and salty. The coldness of the dish really ensured the integrity of the udon noodles, and they were so perfectly chewy~Sukiyaki Udon (5/5): Hot dish! Tasted like hot pot! The beef was very tender and had a decent amount of cabbaged that was perfectly braised. I loved this dish.This is definitely a must try!“

I have gotten a large oat milk latte and four pastries that are recommended by the staff. The latte was perfectly heated to combat the current Boston cold winds. The pastries were all not overpowering! I loved how light they were and how nicely they can be paired with a latte. (1) Blueberry muffin (2) Ham and cheese croissant (3) Cinnamon bun - a classic (4) Sugar Brioche bun I went to this inspired by my previous lab PI introducing the breakfast sandwich with light mayonnaise. The egg is so soft. I love the location and atmosphere of the cafe that is suitable for delightful conversations and studying with headphones.“

My friend flew in from DC and we needed coffee and food immediately and ended up at bōm dough and we are so glad we did!Food: My friend enjoyed the breakfast gnocchi which caught our attention because it is not something you can get everywhere. It was extremely flavorful and she would definitely get it again! I got the crack chicken sandwich on pão de queijo and it was AMAZING.Coffee: I got a White Chocolate Pistachio latte and my friend got a plain Pistachio Latte. Both were incredibly good. If you enjoy sweeter coffee I would recommend the White Chocolate version, whereas if you prefer a more espresso forward drink with a little sweetness I would suggest the plain Pistachio latte.This immediately made it to my favorites list and I will be going back soon to try other things on the menu!“
“I stopped in here with a friend after a long walk and I'm so glad we went here. We got there not too much before closing, but they were just as friendly and accommodating as if we got there first thing. They have a ton of options, including plenty for vegetarians and vegans. I got the breakfast burrito (as I am seemingly always craving one) and my friend got the caprese. I was tempted by the treats they had in the display case, but we opted just to get our sandwich/burrito. Our food came out quickly and was perfectly made. I really appreciated that the egg in my burrito was bodega-style which made it so much less messy to eat. My friend practically devoured her sandwich; she thought the maple balsamic was so tasty and the veggies and pesto were really fresh. She has food allergies and was really happy with how much they laid out what was and wasn't in the food. They had convenient parking and plenty of outdoor tables. I will definitely come back when I'm in town.“

I wasn’t able to finish it.- Cookies: The cookies weren’t overly sweet, which I liked. They were crumbly yet soft.- Fruit yogurt pastry: This was my favorite. I liked that they are bite-sized (though, this is also dangerous because you’ll end up eating a lot). The pastry was flaky, and the yogurt was sweet, which balanced the tartness of the fruits.- Caprice acma: I wasn’t a fan of this. The acma was too doughy. “Mike's Pastry is the original cannoli spot here in Boston. There is a long line, but it goes quickly. There are a variety of cannoli flavors posted across the entire wall with various and unique options. I opted for the Pistachio, Florentine, and Oreo flavors going for $7 a pop. It's pricier at Mike's than Modern, but also the cannolis are bigger. I enjoyed all they have so much more variety of flavors, so allows for more creativity. Overall, Mike's and Modern are both just as good. If you like variety, come here. Plus, this is the OG location for cannolis. You can't go wrong with either option. If you come to Mike's, definitely try the florentine one though. This had such a nice carmelized, crunchy texture that you gotta eat right away.“

Also very much enjoyed trying the half sizes of the mushroom melt sandwich, the Butternut Squash sandwich, and the achiote chicken sandwich. The raspberry oat bar was nice too, and the carrot cake was very moist and with a lot of cream cheese frosting that wasn't overly sweet.There are seating areas downstairs and upstairs which include bar seats and benches and regular chairs, as well as an elevator to the second floor. The staff were very professional and friendly and we saw them help visually impared customers with great courtesy.The only thing I would skip is the chai latte- it tasted pretty bland.“
