They bump the best playlists, joke with you, discuss taste preferences, honor allergies, and are actually excited to provide a good dining experience. It's truly a neighborhood gem that I want to gatekeep so badly but will not because everyone deserves this level of stellar dining and the team here deserves to succeed! The food is funky with a heavy focus on fermentation along with honing culinary techniques from around the world without trying to put out “Asian food” or “Latin cuisine” or “fusion”, just their own creations. They make spirits in house (turns out I can like vermouth!) and source wines from places most others restaurants don’t dare to cover. It’s where I bring all my visitors if I can snag a table!“

They gave us a seat by the door, which was appreciated and the service to the food was hitting on all marks.The one thing I hold back from giving a 5 star review on is that we were dying of heat -- it felt like we were eating in a sauna. I'm not sure if it was because they didn't turn on the AC or if we just had an unfortunate seat that wasn't receiving any of that cool air. However, the service was a bit slow, as it took quite some time for our food to arrive. Nonetheless, when the dishes finally made their way to our table, they were delicious. “We had an amazing meal in this cosy, warm and welcoming joint right in the middle of Newton centre.We went without a reservation and sat at the bar. The food was perfect in every way which does not happen frequently and when it does – it is a great experience. The cavatelli was outstanding. Same with the porkchops. The deserts were great too. The staff were attentive , and at the same time knowledgeable about what was on offer. From my online booking experience (love being able to book a 11 person reservation online no problem!), to the great seating area (private corner so it felt so intimate even though the restaurant was packed), and last but not least, to the service! Mason was incredible! We had a large party with many people coming and going at different times. Somehow he managed to time our cocktails and food perfectly and handle many different tabs with ease. “Great addition to the neighborhood. Worth anywait time. The staff was very friendly knowledgeable, gave great recommendations. I started with a vanilla ice coffee. So good. Not to sweet at all. For my meal I got a special which was gouda grits, cant remember the name if the steak tips and a over easy egg. When I tell you this is so mouth watering. All the flavors together was perfect. The owner even came around talking to patrons which I felt gave it an even more home feeling touch.“

The rest of the food was good too. Service was good considering they were very busy on a Sunday. They got us a table right away. “We booked a rehearsal dinner here. Food and service were great. As a former function manager, the head chef was very unprofessional. He should not be the main point of contact to book a function. My mother in law sent a cc for deposit information months in advance to which she received no response. Since she was in charge of the rehearsal dinner I did not check back in until closer to the date. I emailed John to confirm the menu to which his response was "You never sent a deposit" etc. all using accusatory words. I immediately sent over the email my mother in law forwarded me with the deposit information she sent 5 months prior to which she received no response. Had I known there was no response I would have called sooner. I called after John's email and spoke to Eric who was a great help. All was fixed and went well, but please have another point of contact for functions who is equipped to speak with the general public. There were so many ways to go about speaking with the bride and John's approach was not one of them.“

“This is a great place to go with a crowd. Lots of variety on the menu and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and attentive. They did not have a record of our reservation for 8 people, even though I received multiple confirmations. Luckily it was not an issue as the restaurant wasn't crowded due to snowy weather. Drinks were great. Lighting was definitely very dim, almost too dim for my old eyes to read the menu! This was definitely a hike for our son and his friends, who all go to BU, but the walk didn't seem to bother them, and usually the green line will take you nearby (we didn't know it would be closed when we made the reservation). Food was okay, I found the fried chicken sandwich to be enormous (the chicken filet was way bigger than the bun) and the coating to be too thick and crispy for my taste. The Brussel sprouts side was delicious and we liked that they had a variety of sides to choose from that were on the healthier side.“
“My daughter and I recently dined at this location. We had heard amazing reviews about how the staff is very diligent taking care of customers with food allergies. We were not disappointed. In fact we were thrilled with our experience. The first thing we were asked was if there were any allergies at the table. The waiter seemed very knowledgeable about allergies and asked many of the right questions before we even gave him the information which is normally what we have to do at a restaurant. The manager brought the food to the table and both the waiter and the manager checked on us frequently. One of the best parts of this, is this wasn’t a situation where they just left off ingredients that she was allergic to. They made the dish according to the menu in a way that was completely safe for her. We will definitely eat at this establishment again. And we will spread the word about how wonderful they were.
