We happened to go during happy hour and ordered an appetizer off of the happy hour menu. We started with the Bruschetta for $7, which was stacked with fresh ingredients. I ordered the MASSIVE buffalo chicken wings off of the happy hour menu for $11. I also ordered a side of creamy mac & cheese. My friends ordered the large Steak & Gorgonzola Salad. During happy hour, there are select $5 cocktails that you can pick between if interested. The service was great and attentive as well. I will definitely be back for happy hour and brunch asap! Highly recommend Cliff's Taphouse in Kansas City if you are looking for a patio and great happy hour deals.“

“A bar with books for sale and board games. What a neat concept! Got there around 8.45pm on a Saturday night after a LONG day and the place was busy already. The volume level inside was quiet enough to carry on a conversation, but with it being so full, browsing books wasn't really an option. Every seat was taken, but thankfully there's a patio that was open and with the weather cooperating, we were able to sit there and enjoy our drinks. At $14 a piece, it's definitely not cheap, but it was good. Im normally not a martini person, but this one was delicious. My Lemondrop tasted a bit weird at first sip, but maybe it just needed to settle a bit because sip #2 was great. Service was prompt and the bar tender was nice and attentive. Definitely worth checking out!“

“Really fun and laid back spot. Apparently the owner is my second cousin once removed (I think) so my dad was excited to go here when visiting from AR. It was a beautiful day and I love that on such days they’re open to the outdoors. That plus some great early 2000s pop punk classics really made for a great atmosphere. I asked for their most popular drink which was their blueberry specialty cocktail. It was delicious!“

“The first bite of the mushroom doughnuts with taleggio sauce sealed my positive review of @bar.medici in pen. This chewy not-quite-doughnut-texture bread bite is dusted with umami and dunked in the highest end of "cheese dips." 11/10. Worth going here for the cocktails and this. The salad escarole was great too though: one of those dishes that tastes like each individual ingredient at its peak, with plenty of salt and deep fried bacon bits. The spaghetti a la chittara was good: delicate, perfectly cooked noodles, the right hint of crab, and the Aleppo pepper dust on top is brilliant. I would have taken a bit more creaminess/sauce (I am a sauce girl, after all). The gelato was so much better (and bigger) than I expected. It's indescribably creamy as only the best European gelatos are and the flavor is at 11. The pistachio gelato isn't so much pistachio-flavored cream as it is a ball of creamy, cold, intense pistachio flavor. So good, but the toasted marshmallow was even better: a few crumbles of graham cracker to give crunch to the perfectly smooth gelato. 10/10 The cocktails were wonderful. On par with the other members of this restaurant/bar group with creative flavor pairings and beautiful presentation. I think my favorite was the Tribune (rye, gin, fig, thyme, cider), which the server said was oddly like a Jack and Coke (and she was right). We also had the focaccia, which was just ok (I would have rather had 3 more doughnuts!), the beef tartare (which I couldn't taste any of the truffle or egg yolk in, so it wasn't really as rich as I hoped), the sword fish (perfectly cooked but the sauce is really the star -- you could just eat the greens and sauce and it would hold all of its appeal), and a lovely little roulette of beef in a spicy tomato based sauce. Service was attentive (beware, they'll take your plate before you finish swiping up the yummy sauce!), and we didn't feel rushed at all. We also got plenty to eat and didn't spend quite as much as I expected (I expected the $$$$, haha).“

That leaves a lot of ways to get things wrong, which is why there's often so much trend following in the hospitality space- it's hard to hit the balance of familiarity and surprise, so following the crowd is usually a safe and inoffensive bet. Which is why I appreciate Panther's Place. They are a creative and refreshing addition to the landscape in KC.Enveloped in plants and kitsch-but-not-kitschy ephemera, it's spacious and green and lovely in the summer. During daylight it's airy and wonderful, at night it feels a party in a secret garden after hours. And baking in one of the many hundred degree heatwaves we've endured this summer, we were given yet another reminder that we really need to get a handle on this climate change thing so we can contribute to enjoy wonderful spaces like this. Bartenders were sharp and on their game, while the entire experience was relaxed and unhurried- great hospitality. Highly recommended. We enjoyed showing up early and letting the sun set into night while we were there. Panther's Place has a level of self possession that is rare. It doesn't reach or contort, it invites.“

“I just had my birthday party in the Scarlet Room and it was amazing! I had over 60 guests, and everyone had a wonderful time. I received a lot of feedback on how good the food (appetizers) was. I could not have pulled off this party without D'Ann's guidance! I am completely in awe of how on top of things everyone was and how EASY they made things for me. During the party, the staff was super polite and very attentive to details and my last-minute requests. Simply put, they EXCEEDED all my expectations.
