Hillman Beer Brewery • $
25 Sweeten Creek Rd, Asheville - 5.36 miles

“Our first stop on our first trip to Asheville. Discovered this when looking for walkable dining from Cedar Crest Inn. If you don’t mind a little bit without sidewalks, it was an easy 20 minutes. We split a rice bowl and artichoke dip which was plenty for us and enjoyed a variety of beverages throughout. Food was great especially for a brewery, and the beer is among top-tier. Lots of seating, though outdoor was a little limited and a bit buggy by the creek in the backyard. Staff was really friendly and attentive, and the venue was fun and well kept. Hoping to make some time to come back!“

We got takeout because I had to drop the guys off at the airport and then hit the road for a 7 hour drive. The sandwich was good, but the okra fries were incredible! They are sliced paper thin and are not greasy at all, and they have just the right amount of chaat masala on them. The chai was the best chai I have ever had. The guys really liked their chicken sandwiches, too. Unfortunately, I don't live in Asheville, so I don't know when I can come back again. “This place makes an excellent martini (with blue cheese olives). It's a cool environment, somewhat crowded, but the busy-ness adds to the appeal. I think they shine more in cocktails than in food. I did get a taste of the Roasted Beets and Cauliflower pizza. It was a very good combination. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and a Caesar side salad. The dressing was authentic with anchovies. I'm not a fan of anchovies, but it was so well balanced, I really didn't mind. I ate the whole thing. The Cuban came on a really great bread. I think it was baked locally and was really fresh. The rest of the sandwich tasted good, but a little skimpy on the meats. I'm used to Florida Cuban sandwiches which are plump with meat. I would visit Pizza Mind again on my next trip to Asheville and try a pizza.“

“A fun neighborhood restaurant. Lots of choices for omnivores and herbivores alike. We had to wait for a table so we ordered 2 beers from the bar: a stout and a brown ale. Beer, cider, kombucha are on draft. A modest wine list came with the menu when were seated. Both beers were good. For a starter, we ordered the hummus with toasted pita. After, I enjoyed the signature Nine Mile entree with jerk chicken and linguine. Dishes can be served with basmati rice or linguine. The waiter also brought samples of the hot sauce for us to try. We were both too full to entertain dessert. Street parking is available but please be mindful to not block any driveways. There's a small amount of parking at the lower level with a larger lot up the hill & behind. If you park in the larger lot, you can take stairs or the elevator to the lower level. We sat ourselves at the bar and were greeted by Tyler who is thoroughly engaging and has a great deal of beer knowledge. No questions of any kind were left unanswered. It was a full-to-the-brim beautiful experience! Oh—what about the beer & food? High-fives all around—more like high-sixes! I place these good folks on a short list of extraordinary visits. If you're seeking the whole package, check 'em out!“

“Our first time trying Old School Subs & Salads was a game-changer. No other sub places need apply. By far the best sub sandwich I've had in a long time and I'm now committed to trying everything on their menu. What a great experience to walk into a new (to us) shop and be greeted with a friendly welcome! Every member of the crew was friendly and conversational. Made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is very casual and comfortable with a fun mural on the wall and a good amount of indoor seating. Looks like additional outdoor seating is also available on warm days. Old School Subs is now our go-to place in Asheville for sandwiches hot and cold.“

“Absolutely fantastic place to eat. Each meal is incredibly flavorful, and the ambiance is pleasantly quirky. It is incredibly busy for a good reason, but the staff work efficiently to get you through the line. This is a must if you're in the Asheville area.“
