“I've lived in this area for almost a decade, but had not yet found Latin food that could compare to what I had growing up in Union City and when I lived in the city and visited Washington Heights. Until now, that is! Surrender Cafe recently became available on DoorDash. I had never heard of it, but was drawn by the great reviews, tempting photos of the food, and many of my favorites on a menu with lots of my favorites. This is the first time I've ever ordered from a place, and then immediately again the next day. I especially love that so many of their dishes are available in smaller portions. Want to try the mofongo? Here's the mofonguitos! And meat-only portions can be had of just about everything in small, medium or large sizes, which made it easy for me to sample the beef and chicken guisado, red and black beans, pernil, so I ordered the bistec ecebollado for my main dish. Everything, absolutely everything is delicious, and arrived well packaged. Oh - and I almost forgot - the tres leches! Absolutely top notch. Not only some of the best Latin food I've ever had, but some of the best comfort food I've ever had, period.“

My favorite dish is the stewed chicken w/veggie rice. The small take out box is only $7 but can easily feed 2. The large is (I believe) $9, and both come with a handful of yummy plantanos. The chicken literally melts in ur mouth and they use just the right amount of seasoning so its not too spicy for those of us who don't like spicy food!! “Cozy, clean and organized corner coffee shop! I stopped in with my cousin, (who frequents this place often since she lives nearby) and I am very glad I did. She ordered a cold peanut buttercup latte and I chose the hot Nutella Latte option. Both drinks were made to order and tasted very rich in their flavors. The cost was alittle over $12 for the two drinks but that seems fair given the competition prices. They have a menu featuring some unique drinks and I was even able to look them up on Instagram for visuals. All in all, I would definetly return if I was in the neighborhood!“

I offered to pay but was told to eat my lunch first and deal with the bill later. I appreciated that.When I saw that the eggs were slightly runny, the young lady gladly took them back and recooked them. The place was filled with some old timers who were cracking jokes and enjoying each other's company as Jose Luis Rodriquez played in the background. One of the workers sat by me and ate his lunch. I left a surgery and decided to go to lunch with my friend to eat since we both didn’t eat… the place was busy but there was enough staff too help with the whole place. When I tell you we sat down with soda and waited about an hour for our food and ir was ICE COLD .. mind you.. the food is ready in heated pans. I asked for warmer food she took the food and NEVER brought it back I was sitting there watching my friend eat . We asked for 2 empanadas and the empanadas were hard and definitely not fresh they were so disgusting. We ALWAYS come here this was such horrible service and we will not be coming back. I should of took a picture of how hard and old the empanadas were. We were starving and ate them anyway. Again out of surgery starving. Unbelievable seriously“
