There’s a bar, the next door over that’s owned by the same owners that’s a great non-smoking option (Zach’s). Regardless of which, if a PA team is playing they’re showing it on several television angles within the bar. There’s an ATM, cash only cigarette machine, and several lottery machines at your disposal.”

“Stopped in for lunch while visiting from out of town. From the outside, Knickerbocker has that neighborhood corner bar feel that seems to beckon you in for a cool one. Once inside the bar, though, the atmosphere is very 1920s probation era swank, bold burgundy painted walls, black and white photos of public figures, a very well stocked bar and a menu full of curiosities. I love places like this. The bartender was quite friendly and attentive, making small talk with the local lunch crowd. I kept things simple and grabbed a super smash burger and Lager. The burger was juicy and delicious, think if someone hand crafted a Big Mac but with only the finest ingredients. The chips which appeared to be house made were great
as well. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience sitting in the courtyard, not quite the time of year for that anymore. To sum it up, Knickerbocker Tavern is an awesome joint, if I lived in Altoona this would definitely be one of my regular spots. I'll be sure to tell anyone heading that way to stop in”

“Went into dine in and took my name and number and told us that it would a half hour wait to go back to our car then we waited an hour and 20 minutes and still never called us and within that time they took 5 families right in and seated them. 😡 Especially when I had my child to feed and then had to go somewhere else to wait even longer because was basically lied to and forgot about. The cashew cheese wasn't stretchy/melty, but instead more like a ricotta or something in texture. Didn't bother me, but I figured I would mention it. I enjoyed my pizza. Not only that, but I ordered some sort of lavender drink (I may have modified it without alcohol, if that matters) and our server was kind enough to let me check to see if the lavender syrup was vegan.”

“I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd never been to Altoona, and had no information about it except a friend and I had an invitation. Our focal point of the night was this magical place, McGarvey's Bar and Grill.

(Full disclosure: myself and a friend are in a band, and we were there to play with local nasty as f#@& legends Seas We Fear to Sail, exceptional street/skate punk purveyors Exs for Eyes, and the the official reunion show of the mighty Becoming Friends with Lions.)

To sum it up: Holy. Hell. The locals came out early, stayed and rocked with all the bands, and no one got out of line at all (at least, if they did, it was in the fun way). Everyone was super friendly.

My coconspirator reports the burger was damn tasty and "exactly what was needed" after way too much coffee during a two hour drive from Pittsburgh. Don't ask. I mostly ate candy. My bad.

The only negative thing I have to report is my own fault: I didn't ask for the number of the angel taking money/checking IDs. Even though she took one look at me and said "You're good." Ugh, crushed ?. By the time I worked up the nerve, she had vanished. But, um, hi ?.

Tl;Dr, go here and get down with the locals. Hope there's a show. If so, pay the cover and join the party.

“We always gave a lot of fun at the Bavarian. The bowling is inexpensive and the lanes are well maintained. The food is pretty good and has a decent variety. The staff is friendly. Prices are good. They bring in good entertainment. The ballroom is great for events. Our favorite is Country Store. Even though you have to have a membership, it isn't expensive. They also offer Bingo, bowling leagues, and dart competitions.

Parking: Parking is normally easy, unless there is an event in the ballroom. It can be difficult to find parking on those nights.

Kid-friendliness: Food options for kids. The bowling alley is also kid friendly.”

“We order lunch at this location quite often and we're 90% satisfied for the last 3 years. Some days are a little off. I'm a big fan of the market fresh honey mustard chicken wrap, and the jalapeño poppers are the bomb. I do wish there was an option to have burgers cooked well done though. The classic roast beef has a lot less beef than it used to. It's a typical eat-in experience, so we usually order through mobile for pickup and that works fine.”

“Born and raised in Altoona, PA. and I know some of the Sheetz family. A Grandfather owned a dairy and several times on Christmas Eve, he brought us goodies (in the 50’s). The Sheetz “clan” is a wonderful family. I had the pleasure of shopping in the first 2 Sheetz “Kwik Shoppers” in Altoona. I know several high school class mates who have retired from Sheetz and enjoyed their time working there. Now, we just got the first Sheetz relatively close by in Michigan. Been there twice so far. We called in an order for a large pepperoni pizza (with onions and mushrooms), an order of mozzarella sticks, an order of onion rings, and the combo steak hoagie (large with no green/bell peppers, add, mayo and lettuce). We were very pleased with our order and the helpful staff. My mother walks with a cane and when she went in to get the order, they walked it out for her. Thank you staff! The food was delicious. The steak hoagie is the best I've had since moving to the area 12 years ago. I've tried a lot of steak hoagies at other places and they were not nearly as good. The meat-to-bun ratio was perfect and it was very filling. The bun wasn't soggy with grease and had great flavor and a nice chew. The onion rings were great. They were not soggy and had great beer batter crunch, the same for the mozzarella sticks. We got a large pizza and it was HUGE. The crust had such good flavor. My only complaint would be that they did not put enough pepperoni on it to sufficiently cover the real estate. They could be a bit more generous with the toppings. Pricing at Dino's is on par with other places in the area. I found I spent the same amount there as I did placing an order to Dominos, the difference being I got a lot more food from Dino's. For what I paid to get a large pepperoni pizza (bigger than anything Dominos serves and better tasting), mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and a really good large steak hoagie, I paid Dominos for a large pepperoni pizza, 2 salads and a brownie. The steak and cheese at Dominos can't even compare to Dino's. I'll be going back to Dino's in the future.”

If you're not spiritual you may not like the place because it's quite Christian with Bible verses hiden all over, which I think pretty neat, I had a bit of a spiritual experience here one day a ton of synchronicities just when I needed the reminder that I am not alone I have a mighty protector who watches over me, regardless of my beliefs and will use anything even the Bible to speak to me.

“The food here is great if it's made by certain staff. As for second shift crew they can be friendly or not so friendly it's in between depends on who's working the window that day. Yesterday, I had a guy with an attitude and terrible customer service and I was friendly with him used all my manners. So it just all depends the atmosphere is kid friendly and they serve the Krabby Patty meal which in my opinion was very good. The fries were fresh and everything was given to me in a timely manner.

Parking: The Plank road and the one over near Altoona Hospital both have good parking it is easily accessible.

Kid-friendliness: They offer kids meals while also having a wide selection of foods. The staff can be good with the kids or just completely ignore them it's an in between thing.
