“Absolutely love this new cafe!!. It is in such a great location on the way to Kiawah Island. To Go options, smoothies, brunch options, coffee, alcohol, picnic options, indoor sit down dining, and outdoor air down dining options. Atmosphere is super fresh, clean, everyone is so friendly and kind. We were a bit nervous stopping at a new place but absolutely fell in love. We also have two little boys and we did not feel uncomfortable or a nuisance. We often times run into that feeling when eating but that was not the case. They also had a refrigerator full of all local business products from local alcohol to local bagels to local ice cream. We will be definitely stopping by next time we go to Kiawah and also we will be bringing all of our local friends. Such a nice warm welcome change when it comes to places to eat in the Kiawah area.”

Their dinner club nights are a highlight for us—perfect for a spontaneous date night with an amazing menu and vibe. “This is an amazing restaurant! The atmosphere and service is top notch and the chef is amazing. We had the pimento chitin start followed by the fried chicken with cheese Mac and collard greens and finished it off with banana pudding. Simple dishes but to prepare them correctly takes great talent, to prepare them the way they did takes great talent. My compliments to the chef!!!”

“Well, after 25 years of visiting the Tomato Shed on a regular basis, you've finally done it. You made a meal that I didn't like. My mother in law (from Michigan) insists on going to the Tomato Shed every time they visit Charleston, which we are always happy to accommodate. This visit, I had the meatloaf. It was well prepared, others at our table thought it was great. I just didn't care for it. No, there was nothing wrong with it. Yes, it looked wonderful, and smelled amazing. I have no valid complaint about it. I just didn't care for it.

So, why am I writing this review? Because it is the first time since moving back home that I didn't absolutely love everything I've had there. Such a rarity needs to be remarked upon.

Our server was awesome (I didn't remember his name, but he was cheerful and fun), the ambience was very pleasant, as always, and the whole experience was excellent. But, for the first time ever, the Tomato Shed was not *perfect*.

“Food is always good but after 9 years of going to Sunrise Bistro, today was not a good service day. Forgot stuff on orders, asked for e tra sauce, never came. Was also overcharged by $5 on bill. Hoping this was just a bad day. We will definitely try again.”

“Happened to stop by while on vacation. Got the Cowboy Chicken sandwich and it did NOT disappoint. Texture is everything in a sandwich (to me at least), and this one nailed it. Perfect combination of soft and crunchy, the ranch and avocado brings everything together. I can see why this is a best seller. Would definitely get it again 👌”

“The little hiding piece of perfection was awesome! Food, we had banners and corned beef, was delicious. Bartender was constantly making sure we were good. Servers was friendly and helpful.

Other than the perfect lighting, great selection and staff my only thought was some Irish music would have set a better tone.

Side note : save a little room for a small frozen yogurt next door. They staff was great too and their yogurt delicious!

“I am a long time fan of Java Java.I have been coming here for over 13 years. They just changed their gluten free oat bar recipe and it is amazing!! The breakfast sandwich is perfect when you want a quick bite. I also love their coffee much more than ANYWHERE else in Freshfields. It isn't bitter and the cortado is made just perfectly. 13/10 would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing pastry or coffee plus they make a delicious fig prosciutto sandwich for lunch.”

“We adored this place! We accidentally found the downtown Charleston location during our stay there at a close AirBNB! We visited 3 times in our 2.5 days there. Then, we passed by the John’s Island location on our way to Kiawah and decided to make the 25 min drive the next morning for our coffee and pop tart fix! Great coffee, service, pastries, toasts and local drink and food finds!”

“I stopped in after the lunch rush at around 2. There was no one at the front desk and no one at the bar. In fact there was no one anywhere. I stood there quite awhile before anyone sat me. Once I was seated everything was great. Honestly I do not know how they fry their shrimp so perfectly every single time. Fresh, local fried shrimp. I’ve not had better anywhere.”

“We were honored to have Chicken Fats cater our wedding a couple weeks ago! We’ve loved their food ever since we first had them a couple years ago at Low Tide and just can’t get enough! They were so easy to work with on planning how we wanted the wedding to go. I wanted the food truck feel (because #CharlestonFoodTrucksRock) but I didn’t want everyone to bombard the truck for their food. So, we worked it out that we took “pre-orders” through our wedding website and gave Chicken Fats the full list per table so that they could provide food table by table during the wedding. They also provided many options for us to choose from for appetizers and even created one for us because we both wanted pigs in a blanket (yes, we’re those people). Chicken Fats worked hard to keep up with the demand during the reception and they held strong! We received so many compliments on how delicious our wedding food was and we owe it ALL to Chicken Fats! Not only are they awesome people, but their food is amazing! We HIGHLY recommend choosing Chicken Fats, whether it just be dinner one night, or if you need an awesome caterer!”
