“Their slogan of “Taking care of brisket” couldn’t be any more spot on! Lewis BBQ was our favorite spot when we visited Charleston, and quite frankly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at… ever! I could argue Lewis BBQ deserves Michelin star consideration. Everything is executed perfectly, from the food to the vibe and atmosphere and ambiance of what a BBQ joint should be. The brisket, words alone just can’t describe how amazing it is! Good mix of fat and lean, succulent, and great flavor. Don’t sleep on the turkey either! It was very moist and tender, good seasoning from the rub and great flavor.The collared greens were spectacular, packed with great flavor! We loved the coleslaw as well and the corn pudding. There really wasn’t any one thing we didn’t like. The atmosphere and ambiance are great, a BBQ experience like no other! Definitely worth taking a detour and going out of your way to check out this place!”

“This review is LONG overdue. My sister & I visited Charleston July 2023. The night we flew in from Seattle we had Chasing Sage for dinner - what a delight! From the atmosphere to the food to the incredible staff and chef, it was an amazing experience. My sister and I still randomly bring up our experience at Chasing Sage, and how delicious the food was. Honestly, we'll probably be back to SC and this place is a decent part of the reason why. Cannot express enough how much we enjoyed this place! *edit to add that at the time there was some sort of a seasonal drink on the menu that included peas and my sister thought it was to die for!”

Main dishes were very good, sides, part of entre, too salty to eat. Fast tempo pop music playing so more upbeat than quiet relaxing dinner. Large bar. My drink was strong and fairly priced so 5 stars there.”

“We devoured the most epic dinner at Azur Charleston last night to celebrate our anniversary! If you haven't been, get ready for a taste bud explosion! We started with fancy cocktails that made us feel like high rollers, then feasted on an Azur burger with beef braised in burgundy on a croissant bun - it was like a party in our mouths! And don't even get me started on the lamb wrap with Boston lettuce and crème fraiche, it was like a flavor bomb went off! The service was top-notch, especially when we sat at the bar and got entertained by the bartender's fancy mixology tricks. What a night to remember in downtown Charleston!”

“Thought I would be out of luck here attending a group outing as a vegan with severe lactose intolerance, but our group's organizer let Hall's know beforehand and our server spoke with me about my needs before taking drink orders. She offered me 2 options after speaking with the chef, and I got the salmon salad minus the salmon & cheese. It was one of the better salads I've ever had! I can't tell you how appreciative I was to have a filling, flavorful salad even after having to remove some items, when usually I'm just left with lettuce & tomato. Very appreciative of our server as well who was kind, friendly & attentive throughout. My only suggestion would be to consider adding another item or 2 that can be made vegan other than salads, not just for vegans but for people with common food allergies & intolerances to things like dairy, eggs, fish, & shellfish.”

“Very cool vibe. Outdoor setting, live music but not overpowering. Drinks were tasty and the food was delicious. The only reason the food got a 4 star not a 5 was we only tried a blackened fish sandwich and a fried chicken sandwich, which were both delicious. But we didn't sample anything more than that. The staff couldn't have been any friendlier!Wheelchair accessibility: Appeared to be wheelchair friendly.”

“My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary having a “staycation” in downtown Charleston. Our plan was to put our name in at 167 but the wait was just too long. We stopped at a few bars and looked up local restaurants and landed on Anson, which had a reservation available for 2. We’d never heard of the restaurant but the reviews spoke for themselves.We had such an amazing time. The atmosphere was great. We put down that it was our anniversary on the reservation form and the team at Anson went above and beyond to celebrate - an amazing upstairs table, and a bit of champagne, berries, and whipped cream to wrap up the meal. Peter, our waiter, could’ve sold us on just about anything on the menu. We went with the she crab soup, shrimp de johnes, blackened snapper, and the filet with bone marrow butter. Every bite was incredible. We’ve found our new favorite place in a city full of “the bests.” Thank you Anson!”

“Shiki looks unassuming on the outside, but the food is amazing and the interior is adorable! Since it is such a small space, you need a reservation to guarantee a spot. I was able to make same day reservations though! We got lucky, someone canceled! Even though this is a sushi spot, they had vegetarian options, and they had non-sushi options like the pork katsu. Their veggie sushi roll was SO good. I love when places get creative with veggie rolls and put a variety of veggies in. I also tried the roll that had lemon and jalapeño. I'm not the biggest fan of crab, but this roll was amazing. The lemon adds the perfect amount of zest! Plus, it's fun to try rolls I've never seen before. Even though we were absolutely stuffed, I needed to order the fried ice cream. It was SO GOOD. The fry batter is super light and crispy, and the red bean ice cream was amazing. If you're in Charleston, you should definitely try to get a reservation here!”

“When you walk into High Cotton, you immediately feel like you are having a quintessential Charleston experience. It's a very pretty restaurant in the heart of downtown. All staff is very attentive, friendly and accommodating. It's quite popular and was very crowded and noisy on a Saturday night. It does have a fun vibe. There was even a live band.Now, for the food. Unfortunately, the food is underwhelming. We give it 4 stars because the ingredients are obviously high quality and fresh. The lapse comes in the cooking.She crab soup was nice and creamy, but lacked crab flavor. The addition of some salt helped, but it just wasn't spectacular. Broiled oysters were too salty, and the combination of flavors with the Serrano ham and manchego didn't quite work. Halibut was a beautiful piece of fish, but came with a rather small amount of very subtle lemon butter sauce. It depended almost entirely on the smoked trout roe that topped it for flavor. The tile fish special was also very fresh, but the "leek sauce" accompaniment was so paltry, you didn't even notice it. The potatoes on the side were bland. Interestingly, the sautéed spinach that came with it was very tasty. Shrimp and grits was fresh, but also bland. We've had better at the pub across the way. The duck was interesting - smoked. It was tasty, but again, all one predominant flavor. Bread was fresh and warm but did not have much flavor. Desserts sounded great but were unremarkable. Chocolate silk pie was rich, but we've had better. The passion cake, which should have been a riot of flavors with mango, passion fruit and pineapple, was bland. You could barely taste the fruits.Overall, it felt like the chef's main purpose was to serve fresh food very simply. However, the cooking showed no finesse, and generally lacked flavor. Things were oversalted or undersalted, and nothing had a complexity of flavors. For the price point of this restaurant, you can do much better at several other Charleston restaurants. As friendly as the staff was, we will likely not go back, unless the food improves.”

“Fantastic food and service. We had the hush puppies, clam wraps, char grilled oysters, dark fried chicken. Also a couple beers and frozen gin tonics capped with a chocolate shake. All were fantastic. Only negative was the chicken was a little too bland for my liking. Oysters were incredible!Our server, Dorey was friendly and very helpful. Exactly the type of server I truly appreciate!”

“The service and the ambiance was a perfect setting to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Beginning with checking in with the hostess, my husband was greeted with birthday wishes from every member of the staff that we came across, punctuated with a signed card waiting for him at our table. The only reason I did not give the food a full 5 stars is that my main course arrived extremely over salted. They were very quick to redo the dish, accompanied with multiple apologies. Overall, it was a lovely birthday celebration with a nice live trio providing background music.Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian, dairy-free”

“Been following Chef Nikko since his Mansueta's pop up days and very proud of him and all he has accomplished thus far! Kultura definitely did not disappoint! The Sisig Carbonara and Bistek were very good and the Ube latte was the icing on the cake! We will definitely be back for another dinner visit but also looking forward to trying their brunch. Kultura is small but very intimate with the kitchen staff and Chef Nikko himself up close and personal working their magic. Highly recommend!”

“I would argue that Malgón has the best bread service in Charleston. We stopped in for appetizers and wine. Our server was great and the patio was suuuuper cute. Blankets were provided on the patio as well, which was the perfect touch on this chilly evening. I’ve dinned here a few times and this is easily one of my favorite spots in Charleston.”

“I ordered take-out. The young lady that took my order left half of my order out of the bag. always check for exactness. She was so sweet and apologetic. The waffle was smaller than I remembered. The whites of my over medium eggs were a little too runny. But the food was delicious.”

“I love the coffee I make in my own kitchen- and I also savor the 20 min or so sitting at home drinking my delicious coffee in the morning before I get into my day. It takes a lot to get me to break from that routine. I prefer to meet someone for almost anything else other than coffee- to protect that time for myself in my own kitchen with the wonderful coffee I make at home. That was at least until I tried the coffee at Bottleneck. I had it for the first time several years ago at a local farmers market- the Vietnamese coffee (as another reviewer mentioned is mind blowing). I loved it but I tend to be a coffee purist- don't add anything. I want to taste the coffee. Now Bottleneck comes to MUSC- where I work. I will now forgo my coffee at home for a coffee from Bottleneck. I mostly get the Nitro- cool, black coffee infused with nitrogen. No ice. The varietal changes regularly so I know I am getting a world tour over time. Sometimes I switch it up and get hot black coffee, sometimes iced black coffee. No matter, it's always delicious.”

“If you're near the pineapple fountain at the waterfront park in Charleston and in the mood for some good food and drinks, this is the place to go. The food here is always fresh and delicious; especially the fish and chips. The place is covered in dollar bills left by prior guests with lots of interesting drawings on them so your eyes will never get bored. The bar itself is a little small, but most go here for the food and dining area anyways. The only thing that was lacking was the absence of any air conditioning, so it was quite humid and warm inside. Other than that, I would definitely recommend coming here for a quick bite to eat and some beers along with it.Parking: Free street parking around the neighborhood.”

“I don't think we could've found a better coffee shop in Charleston! This was a local recommendation for us, and I am so happy that we got to stop in here. The baristas were super friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. I ordered an iced chai, we both got the quiche, and I also got a peach pop tart on my way out. We decided to sit outside since the weather was beautiful. They had the cutest outdoor seating which really tied the whole experience together. There is also indoor seating but we couldn't pass up sitting outside on such a nice day. The iced chai was delicious and the quiche was cheesy and yummy too! Parking was a bit of a scavenger hunt but it's totally worth it!”

“We were worried Hymans would be a tourist trap with how much it’s hyped up in Charleston. Turns out it’s as good as everyone says! The cajun haddock and chilean sea bass croquettes were amazing. They have a gluten free menu for gluten sensitive individuals but I wouldn’t recommend for celiac given there’s a lot of cross contamination risk that the restaurant acknowledges. The sea scallop dinner was tasty and a super generous portion.”

“Finally, an authentic West Texas [El Paso] Mexican restaurant in Charleston, SC. The food was delicious with layers of seasoning and flavors. Authentic Hatch Chilis!! Everything was wonderful. Not your Daddy's Mexican restaurant.Update 4.16.2024: unfortunately the food quality has decreased since Patty left Rancho Lewis. Our last few visits have seen a significant slip in food quality - stale tortillas, room temp food, un-melted cheese in Chilis Rellenos, .... the food just misses the mark. Some items are still excellent, but there are disappointments also in execution.”

“Great food, great service, beautiful decor. Be prepared for an unusually loud interior due to hard surfaces everywhere. Marinated olives with orange zest and pizza were awesome. Probably need a loud atmosphere to turn tables because the pizza is so good and so many people order it, but just don’t expect a peaceful atmosphere. In a hurry and want great pizza in a place that looks super cool and feels lively and loud with incredibly friendly staff? Go for it! Sometimes that’s what you want to celebrate something and to keep things upbeat. We prefer to be able to have a conversation and relax, but it’s probably great for young people who are on dates and nervous because they don’t know how to have a conversation yet or people who like drinking at dinner and cackling and hollerin’ at each other.”

“Damn these was good. I gots 2 of the "Let the cook decide" breakfast sandwiches and it was the moistest... I mean mostest pleasure I've had in my mouth...... ever! Including my childhood years. Anyways ordered the trio platter with the whole hog (for me was just ok , I’ve had better lechon, sorry) the pork shoulder (really well seasoned and moist! Very tasty one of the best pork shoulders I’ve tasted, then the brisket! As soon as I bit in to that brisket! It was a flavor and texture perfection! The brisket was soft and juicy, very well seasoned, no need for the extra sauce. The collard greens was very good too!!! I’d most likely order just the brisket next time as it was my favorite. “We couldn't figure out where we wanted to eat late last night and didn't want to spend too much money since we'd already had an appetizer somewhere else. We walked by here and thought it would be good. The restaurant isn't exactly the cleanest and to food isn't exactly the highest quality that you may be used to in Charleston but it was pretty good, especially for the price. My husband and both ordered a drink and entree and shared a roll, all for about $50. It's almost impossible to get all that anywhere else. I even opted for the duck, which was a thigh portion but I really liked it. The curry was good and the vegetables were fresh. The roll wasn't very fancy but they had some that sounded really good to choose from. At under $10 for a roll, the price was right. Our server was nice and the food came out pretty quick. This looks like one of the hot spots for the college kids, probably because it is so affordable and it's pretty darn good. I'd definitely recommend and if we were local, we would definitely be back.”

“A small but quality Chick-fil-A on The Citadel campus. This one is located within The Citadel Canteen building beside Mark Clark Hall. No, you do not have to be a cadet to go eat there as it is open to the public. The dining area is always clean, and the food always comes out great. They are usually busy serving cadets, but the line is always served quickly. Overall, it's a great little fast food restaurant.Parking: Free parking lot just behind the building.”

Though it's in the fast food category, if greassy food or fattening food is a no no, then this is where I come to. They usually anchor every place food is sold and the service is usually friendly and your food is prepared to your specifications while you watch which is a plus for me.”

Our waiter Sam just wasn't Attentive to us, like what I am use to at a high scale restaurant. So it makes me not give 5 stars. The manager checked on us and thanked us for coming in.”

“I finally got to try daps, I always want to try but always tend to go to my regular spots but today I really wanted a breakfast burrito so I sought out a new spot for me! I ordered online because I heard that it can get really busy and it was easy to do so, I went and picked it up at the counter. I ordered the classic breakfast burrito and it was really yummy, I will say I am more of a spicy breakfast burrito kind of person but this was savory and cheesy! They put a cheese sauce inside and it was yummy, the eggs were very fluffy and the onions and potatoes were yummy! I think if I had a hot sauce or something to put on top it would be a 10/10 for me they give a green sauce on the side but it wasn't spicy. I still loved trying this place and I think next time I'll order a breakfast sandwich. Also their drinks looked so yummy. Definitely will be back for one of those.”

Also got a gingerbread cookie which I loved the frosting but all the sprinkled sugar was overpowering. It would have been perfect without the extra sugar.”

“Food was great. I got a bacon cheddar burger with fries, lemon water. My friend got chicken wrap with onion rings. She complained about them being greasy but I thought they were okay. Food was good, just felt like it took a while for us to be waited on and even longer while for us to actually receive our food. Like it was good, but also felt it was warm not, hot like it had been ready for a while before being brought out to us. I asked for my burger to be well done, not burnt. They did a great job with my request. I'd return and try something else!”

“The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because I was a frequent customer and their food was always hot, delicious, and fresh!!! I am also giving it 4 stars because the owner fully refunded me after I didn’t receive my food and he/she clearly knows how to treat people who patron his restaurant. I was a little early for pickup, so I understood that my food wasn’t ready. But there have been times where I have done the same and it was, so I didn’t think anything of it. The manager at this location told me that I would need to go through Chow Now who I originally ordered through. Ok, understandable. AFTER I left and contacted Chow Now, they called and she told them she will only be issuing me a partial refund because my fries were ready and not my sandwich. She failed to tell me this in person, “because she’s not gonna sit up here and argue”. Yet proceeded to just that almost blowing out my ear drum out with all her yapping like a rabid dog! The fact is, she knew exactly what she was doing. In fact, the other young lady at the counter told me they were just starting on my order, so of course I’m going to think nothing was ready! I didn’t make a fuss, nor was I angry because it wasn’t their fault that I was early. I just simply asked for a refund. After finding out that her intentions was to never fully refund me. I called up there and spoke with her in what started out as a calm conversation. She then got EXTREMELY rude, raising her voice, and started yelling and over talking me. Very nasty! Worst customer service I have literally EVER received and as someone who has been in customer service for years, this experience was mind blowing. I live far from this location but I come here for work and planned on bringing my kids here to enjoy food and ice cream one Saturday because it’s seriously one of the best locations quality wise and because our location closed down. But it’s safe to say I won’t be a returning customer. I don’t do well with nasty and mean managers who talk to people like they don’t care if they receive their business. Good luck to that lady, because one day she will talk to the wrong person like that! Thank goodness I have changed, I almost drove back up there and asked her to speak to me just like she did over the phone but she isn’t worth it and never will be. I hope whatever she brought on her shoulders to work with her today, gets better! Because she’s usually really sweet, I don’t even have to ask for condiments because she’ll make sure they are in my bag. Sad. Thank you to the owner for refunding me fully. The tacos were rich and loaded with more lettuce and onion than ribeye, not bad just not great.The swordfish dishes were well made, one ordered low country style but that order was not correct so additional food was brought out quickly.The stand out for us were the hush puppies appetizer and the blue cheese & bacon coleslaw. Both were great.Our server was also the bartender, she was busy but very nice. Our table was a high top in the main area between the bar and kitchen, two oddly shaped tables that were too small for three adults, food and drinks.You can expect the per person cost to be $50+ if ordering a drink and shared appetizers for the table.”

“Went by for pastries for the weekend. Not at all sad about it!! While I truly enjoy good pastries I don't like anything too sweet. I got a pecan bar which was delicious and not sweet as pecan pie- thank goodness! Would get it again. The pop tart was fun. Never cared for those in the store or other bakeries but liked this one. The coffee cake was Devine! I love cinnamon so was excited there was a lot of cinnamon in it. Now, I got a whoopie pie expecting it to be too sweet. Started eating it before I got out of the parking lot and almost went back for more but I had other treats to eat. Thank goodness I don't live nearby! I will be making the drive many more times though! Excellent experience!”

“I LOVE The Bomb Bar! This place is so cute and cozy. It is really beautiful inside, and a great place to hang out to get some work done. The location is extremely convenient and Ive never had an issue with parking even during peak hours (next door to HYLO) Staff is always quick and friendly. The smoothies are fresh and delicious. They add their own house made almond butter and The Bomb Co Blender Bombs which really helps keep me full throughout the day. Also, you can never go wrong with their OG Avocado Toast. Sooo good!
