I have to start by saying this a true GEM of Austin and I don't think it gets the notoriety it deserves. I remember walking to this place when I was growing up and the thing I 100% give them credit for is that they are the same quality of food today as they were back then. Shortstop has a very decent burger. Even though the drive-thru line did not seem long I did wait probably more than 10 minutes before I could even order, and then another 4 to 5 minutes after that. Seemed like kind of a long wait for one burger and fries.

No frills, made-to-order, drive thru/walk up, burger joint (no seating). Think of PTerry’s without the upscale retro look, but classic diner-style burger. Their fries have the right combination of crispiness & salt. Add jalapeños and have the bun toasted!
