“Too bad the review scale maxes out at 5 stars -- this is a jewel of a winery perched on a mountain overlooking the Blue Ridge and Amherst County, producing a remarkable level of wine. The vineyard is a retirement project of Christine and Dennis Vrooman, who started here in 2008 and quickly shot to the top of the Virginia wine world. We have been a dozen times, and every time we go we learn about more examples of people driving up just for a tasting and leaving with a case, a wine club membership, and plans to come back soon. The pinot noir has now won numerous awards, but it's the perfectly balanced, slightly oaked, chardonnay with apple and apricot notes that I fell for. Delightful people. Well worth a trip.”

“A small town treasure, worth every cent spent! Mr. Rose and his staff go all out with their baked goods to give flavor that cannot be matched, as well as remarkable service. The donuts and rolls are delicious, but their (giant) cream puffs are possibly the best you will ever eat! What a blessing this wonderful place is indeed for those who love a classic bakery environment and desserts that leave lasting memories. If you're traveling through the Amherst, VA area, ABSOLUTELY make a stop here!”

“I really love this place. It was my first time stopping after passing it several times and thinking to myself, 'I really have to stop there.' That seems to happen a lot down this way. I stopped in with my son and was worried when I saw everyone eating ice cream because I thought that it was just an ice cream parlor. It turns out everything is amazing here. It has elements of a classic southern market, like hot comfort food by the container and kind personal service. There's a whole menu to consider of sandwiches and sides. Great sides, too, like fried pickles, hush puppies, and batter dipped onion rings. I got a single bacon cheeseburger, which could not have been fresher. The onion rings on the side were flaky, soft, and perfectly cooked. I can NOT wait to get back here for breakfast. I had a nice conversation at the counter with a few people. A crowd sat outside enjoying ice cream and community. Kind, helpful service. Highly recommended, thoroughly encouraged.”

“I like really sweet wine. They did not have a wine that I liked, but my husband liked a few. However, they did have a mead that I really liked. The lady who helped us was so nice. We enjoyed our time there and learning about what they offer.”

“Nestled into a strip mall near the Food Lion in tiny Amherst. Dogwood has great lunch specials, which I came to crave while staying locally. One star off for putting prosit housing Christian stuff on the back of the menu. Restaurants should be secular in my opinion. That said, an excellent lunch spot in Amherst.”

“Food was good. My complaint is the 20% tip added to my bill because of a large party. 5 of us. The waitress was fine but she only visited the table 4 times and 20 dollars was too big of a tip considering we were there less than an hour.”

“So glad I finally stopped here! Friendly staff and a good selection from their menu. I love a good flavored coffee so we got an iced Blondie Mocha and iced Foxtrot Latte. Both were so yummy but would definitely order the Foxtrot again since it was a little less sweet. Can't wait to try more coffee, smoothies and treats from here!”

The men's restroom is very clean, considering how much it gets used, but the toilet paper is a little on the rough side. Overall, it is a great place to have a meal with family and friends. “There was a line it moved pretty fast, the lady surprised me at how fast she made the ice cream cone for my dad & Banana split for myself. Only con could be due to the hot weather, my banana split was so melted I had to use a straw & a spoon to eat it. It leaked all over me and the car. If you order the banana split I suggest bringing your own bowl or eating it at one of the tables in front of the sweet spot.”
