“Splits the difference between "down-home cookin" and "haute cuisine" and does a masterful job of it. There's something for everyone on the menu, and all of it is great. Particularly pleased to see no "cruelty food" (e.g. fois gras) or baby animals (veal, lamb) on the menu. Thanks for that.“
“We arrived around noon on a Sunday in February. We were greeted promptly and were allowed to pick our own table. It was fairly busy but there were several tables open. It is deceiving from the exterior, because it’s actually a nice ambience with, by gosh, real tablecloths. There is a nice bar area and then a couple of separate areas with tables. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. Service was good and the food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. For lunch, my spouse ordered the Sailor sandwich, and I ordered the Cuban. The Sailor came stuffed with pastrami, knockwurst and baby swiss on rye. The Cuban had slow roasted pulled pork, Virginia pit ham, smoked provolone, dill pickles and dijonnaise. Both were tasty but the Sailor was the winner – that knockwurst knocked it out of the park! The french fries were lightly breaded, and they were hot and delicious. Prices are average for the area. Highly recommend!“
“The atmosphere upon arrival was awesome. The rest of the stay, I cannot say the same. The game overall was great for first timers. Although our waiter was less than satisfactory. He asked us if we had been there before and we stated no. He then proceeded to ask for our orders on drinks and didn't even take time to explain how things worked. He came to our table about 4 times total and one of those times was to tell us that our time was up. He then proceeded to tell us that it was our fault and something would've came up on our screen. Which was not the case. Would recommend this place again, although I hope the next time is a much better experience. Btw ...make sure you're not in the booth 329...that's two high tops and not a lounge. Also, explore your options with wait staff, Jason was sweet but he was too distracted and was not a great listener.“
“Ray was amazing this Sunday afternoon. They had a steady crowd but we were seated once we walked in the food came fast we stopped by because we were traveling back home to Charlotte. Ray spoke about how everything is made from local ingredients and you can tell for sure. We even got food Togo so we won’t have to stop later ???“
“The food was good however a bit overrated. Ordered the salad which was good nothing extra special. Had the smoked chicken, was again good the gnocchi were a bit mushy could use more texture, they were more of a mashed potato. The chicken was hard to cut in the serving bowl it came in. Need to serve it in a more shallow plate. Deserts were slim pickings so didn't order any. Service was good but boy can he talk fast almost like he was on speed or cocaine. For such a specialized restaurant and considered higher end, need to have the bathrooms cleaner. So much dust and dirt on the baseboards and floors were not very clean which makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. I may consider going back but not anytime soon.“
“I ordered a turkey burger with a fried egg, bacon, lettuce, etc. The turkey burger was delicious! I liked that after eating their food, i didn’t feel tired or like I over ate too much. It was my second time eating here and it was good just like the first time i ate here.“
“Ursula was the best waitress I've had in the city! She knew the menu backwards and forwards, every recommendation she made was right on the money, and she made me feel extra comfortable. This was a great way to spend my Fiancée birthday!“
“We were looking for a place that serves fish because of a Friday during Lent. And we were very happy. Portions were HUGE and the flavor matched. Fish sandwich was more like a platter size and the fish and chips was way more that could be eaten. Service was great and the atmosphere was as to be expected.......a diner during afternoon lunch. All in all a good meal and experience. Worth a visit if you're in the area.“
“First Watch is one of our favorite places to grab a late, leisurely bite on the weekends or a sneaky breakfast after the bus run. Whether they are packed or we're the only guests, the staff is amazing and the food is always great! I don't think I've had the same thing twice yet because it all sounds so good and I haven't been disappointed yet! Thank you for the consistent hospitality!“
“We went for lunch on a weekday and it was very busy. Beautiful restaurant, and great atmosphere. I got a Cuban, which I was disappointed with. It was more like a sub than a Cuban. Service was subpar, and the wait for food was long. I understand it was busy, and they may have been understaffed.“
“Great place with just enough menu options to not make you feel overwhelmed. Pizza is phenomenal, you have to try the sausage and black pepper honey one! My daughter loves the crab cakes and key lime pie. You can book reservations ahead of time, and I highly recommend doing that on weekends and during the dinner hour. One thing to note— I do not recommend their goat cheese dip - it’s even what they use on their chips and Queso.Waitstaff is always attentive, friendly and on point. Would recommend this place for a nice casual night out or even a great date night spot!“
“Ask for the back room if you like a quieter space where you can more easily have a conversation. Our server was a dream - perfectly attentive, accommodating, and polite to my aging and innocently intoxicated parents. The food ranged from good to exceptionally good. We tried a variety of surf-and-turf entrees with sides like cheesy potatoes, broccolini, and shoe string fries. Members of our party ordered steaks in every temperature - medium rare, medium well, and well done. Every steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. When the manager came to check on us later in the meal, it wasn't the typical low energy drive-by, but a genuine interest and calming presence that stayed just long enough before floating on to the next table. Kudos to this restaurant and their excellent staff.“
“River City Diner is the real deal! The staff is friendly and helpful, the vibe is 100% diner, the food is great, and they have a full bar. Memorabilia is everywhere, there are TVs to provide some entertainment, and the staff is top notch. I looked at this place from the outside for years, with no desire to go in. I went for the first time last year, and now I'm mad I didn't go in sooner! Don't be like me!Kid-friendliness: Great spot to take kids! TVs, memorabilia, good kid food.“
“I know that Malito’s has been a staple in the west end for a very long time but this was the first time we ever went there. It was fabulous. I had the 2 chili dog meal and they reminded me of being a kid again. My son had the club sandwich which was easily 2 meals worth of food. Beer price was a bit high but otherwise it was a great place to go and we will be back.“
“Very nice little restaurant on the side of the road. Enjoyed spending time with old friends and acquaint family style southern restaurant. Everything was a bit salty to my taste, but overall enjoyable for a home cooked meal of southern charm. Make sure you're paying attention because you can drive right past it“
“I don't love being sat outside with nowhere to place my purse unless I literally just plop it on the concrete ground. The ambience is non existent but we're still praying the same bill. They've also stopped serving the Chipotle salsa with the chips & guac and that was a let down.“
“Great neighborhood bar. Very friendly managers, wait staff, and bartenders. Food is pretty good - standard sports bar fare, but maybe a notch above. Best value: loaded nachos (you can add on toppings for a little extra) and chicken tenders (nice and meaty and not greasy.) Worst value: DO NOT waste your money on the Buffalo wings. You basically get a plate full of tiny overcooked wings that will make you think "this must be what chicken jerky tastes like." Really disappointing dish for what's otherwise a pretty darned good "Cheers" kind of place.“
“We are here about once a week for breakfast. Food is consistently delicious. Servers are always great, kind, courteous. We know several by name. We have also been to other locations and this is by far our favorite. Thanks first watch for a great breakfast experience!“
“Why can't the French dip be added to the menu? I would love to come by after work around 6pm and order the French dip! I would eat here more often and spend more money if I could get the French dip at any time of day. It's so sad I can only get it from 11am to 3pm. I would spend more time and money here if the owner would keep this on the main menu. I hope he actually looks at these reviews, but I doubt it.“
“This place never disappoints. We started out a little early for our reservation in the bar. The service was great, and the drinks were on point. We moved upstairs for dinner to continue our evening.. The food was perfectly prepared, and our waitress took great care of us. Keep up the great work!“
“Great time! Taco Tuesday is where it's at! They gave Brad a fancier mule cup than mine, but you know it was before I got there, so no hard feelings. Went for a work outting but would visit on another day to watch a game if that was my thing.“
“Happy Hour is the best! Beer selection is the best anywhere around this area. Brandon made sure we always had everything we needed. Service was prompt, food was hot and delicious, prices were reasonable. We are so glad we found this go to place for anytime and not just happy hour. They have brought Burger Night back on Monday.“
“I had lunch with a friend last Friday. This was the first time for me. Our service was perfect & this was with a girl in training. I had the Crispy Cobb Salad & added grilled chicken. It was delicious & I ate half & took the other home. Large, great salad. I am anxious to go again with my husband. I know he'll enjoy it. Pat“
“I visit the short pump location often, it serves the best spicy and crispy chicken in town, for sure. I like spicy food, so I like choosing the hottest spicy category here. For folks who may not be able to take all the spice, even the mild is good flavorful. I also tried their drinks, yummy !! I highly recommend !!“
“This place is always great. My boyfriend and (very picky) parents love it too. Servers and bartenders are all really nice. Interior reminds me of some NYC restaurants, nice ambience and lighting. Food has been perfect for everyone every time (except I'm upset they took away the jackfruit entree). Great place for anyone to eat - meat eaters or vegans. With that jackfruit platter it was enough for me to have another full meal at home... Last time my boyfriend could not finish his lobster mac and cheese and we were stuffed trying to finish my oysters. Our cats also agreed the lobster mac was delicious. Not too loud, not too quiet. Probably my new fav place in Richmond.Vegetarian options: Delicious jackfruit options“
“Frisby's, a local Powhatan restaurant didn't disappoint. Not 5 stars, but it's a family restaurant, not a fine dining establishment.I can't speak to the rest of the appetizers, but the Carolina Reaper wings actually brought some heat combined with a really awesome flavor! Tender, juicy, flavor packed! What more can you ask for?My catfish platter, with cornbread, okra, onion rings and corn bread was really nicely done. The portions were large and the catfish was really, really tender and juicy. The okra was cooked very well but lacked somewhat in flavor while the onion rings were really good as well. Tender, and not too much breading. My wife had Nachos, her report is, "they're not Mama Kwans or El Cerro, but the portion was large and the toppings generous and well flavored".My granddaughter had the popcorn shrimp with fries, the popcorn shrimp, she reported, were pretty good with a little too much breading. The fries......OK. She loves her some fries and can be a little picky. We all had leftovers for a fine dinner at home. That's hard to do with me. I'm a lifetime member of the clean plate club! All in all it's good American roadside fare at a reasonable price. We will be back.“
“Had the pleasure of eating here on 4/21 for brunch. Parking was good. We had a 15 minute wait. Very nice atmosphere. They also have a really nice outdoor area. Our server Sophie was very nice and attentive. We ordered the donuts which were recommended and they were hot and delicious. I had the breakfast burger and my hubby had the B.E.L.T and both were really good. Prices were good too for the portion. We paid $42 for the both of us before tip. We will definitely return.“
“This place is everything you want in a dive bar, any of the bad reviews come from people who have been tossed out of the place for acting up . It’s a 4.7 out of 5. Only real problem is probably the location and you could easily argue that’s one of the benefits to the joint ! great staff , great owner and overall its a great place to meet people !“
“This is my “go-to” spot for a great meal and good service. The servers are always attentive, and the food well-prepared and served at the correct temperature: warm but not so hot as to burn one’s mouth. Pictured below is the pork chop entree I recently enjoyed. I heartily recommend Texas Roadhouse. Go ahead and order anything on the menu — whatever your choice, you can’t go wrong. #roadhouserules“
“We recently visited Glory Days Grill with a large group of 20, and I cannot express enough how phenomenal our experience was. From the moment we walked in, we were treated to exceptional service, but it was our server, Brody, who truly went above and beyond to ensure our evening was nothing short of perfect. Brody’s attention to detail, friendly demeanor, and the ability to juggle our large and lively group was remarkable. The food was just as impressive as the service. Every dish that arrived was perfectly cooked, delicious, and served with care, satisfying a wide range of tastes and preferences in our group. It’s not often you find a place that can manage large groups without a hitch, but Glory Days Grill did just that, making our gathering all the more special. For anyone looking for a venue that caters to large groups with outstanding food and service, Glory Days Grill is the place to go. Our heartfelt thanks to Brody and the entire team for making our visit unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back for more celebrations in the future!“
“We loved everything from beginning to end. Very friendly efficient waitress. Draft Beer and drinks were perfect. The pretzel is huge and wonderful and the beer cheese was the best I've had in this area. We tried cornbread, smoked Gouda grits and cheeseburgers. My husband said the it was the best burger he has ever had! Nightingale ice cream sandwich was unbelievably good. And the general came around to make sure everything was great and she was very nice and obviously cares about the customers. Very impressed - we will be back!“
“So happy I finally got to try this place! The biscuits were huge and some of the best I've ever had. The Firebird was tasty, and the shiitake mushroom gravy was out of this world. I was a bit sad that they didn't include whipped cream and strawberries for my French Toast Biscuits. They were very pretty online- a heads up would have been nice....since I paid for it! It is a little on the pricey side but the portions are huge. Come hungry!Vegetarian options: The shiitake mushroom gravy is AMAZING. A must try!“
“Dinner was great! We ordered the land + sea meal and the crab stuffed shrimp served with mashed potatoes and spinach. Loved the steak and potatoes, however, we’ve had better in terms of the shrimp. The cocktails were delicious and atmosphere & service were great too. When it comes down to dessert, the salted Carmel cheesecake (which is topped with walnuts) is a must have!!! Overall, we enjoyed our visit and I would definitely recommend this place.“
“First time here. It's our anniversary. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. Our server(Jake) was friendly and knowledgeable, answered all of our questions and even gave us some recommendations. We definitely will be returning!“
“Today, my husband and I dined at this location of Capitol Ale House with a large party to celebrate a family members birthday. Hope H our waiter was awesome. I loved my Cob Salad and Calamari. She is a definite keeper there at Capitol Ale House, awesome customer service.“
“Extremely confused by any negative reviews of this lovely establishment. I truly think Southbound is one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in Richmond, and that’s saying a lot! My friend and I dined there tonight and have only rave reviews. The atmosphere is 10/10: classy, cozy, and casual-chic. We tried the pork nachos (incredibly flavorful and original), Caesar salad, burger (possibly the BEST I’ve had in Richmond, which is also saying a lot), crabcakes, and tiramisu. Everything was so.freaking.good. Our server was friendly and service was prompt and accurate. We have friends who extol the virtues of their cocktails, but didn’t try one tonight. Wine selection is solid. No complaints and we’ll absolutely be back soon!“
“Love, love, love this place!! Biggest Breakfast in Town is my usual go-to & is always fabulous, though everything I've had otherwise is also very delicious. Sometimes I get the breakfast and then take the next meal to go! If you sit at the bar and see all the food coming up off the grill, you may just want to order/eat everything you see...! Service is great and the staff are down to earth and super-friendly; the place is usually packed because it is so popular and there are some obvious regulars that love the place and the staff, who love them right back. I am from Danville and every time I go this place always feels and tastes like home.“
