“I didn't do any research to see what kinds of things were available at Friday Harbor because I was here for a wedding, so I assumed that there'd be a lack of variety on San Juan Island, akin to what you'd experience in many rural and suburban parts of the United States. As such, my mind was blown when I smelled the French-style pastries, tacos, skewers, paella, and more at this farmer's market. Why are there so many amazing things to eat at this farmer's market? Seeing a Tibetan momo stand on this island off the coast of Washington floored me. And the craziest part? Everything tasted so good. The carne asada tacos were spicy and flavorful, the skewers were tender and marinated well, and the seafood paella was the star of the show, piled high with mussels and clams and prawns. That being said, the San Juan Island Farmer's Market is perhaps closer to a night market than a farmer's market, not only because of a Chelsea Market-like collection of food vendors, but because there was a distinct lack of produce here. One of the joys of a farmer's market is to crushing some fruit that you just bought, but there were none in sight over here. Although if I were to guess, it would be that transporting all the produce to and from the island for one day of a farmer's market isn't necessarily profitable and has a high potential to generate food waste. While I did love what was here, I couldn't help but feel that I was missing something critical to a *farmer's* market.“

“This wonderful small business roasts its own beans! And has the best chocolate toffee. My mom begs me to buy her this chocolate toffee every time we visit Friday Harbor, and she's quite particular. I appreciate the small businesses in Friday Harbor, and this is one of my favorites.“

“Sweet spot. Convenient spot located right at the harbor. With parking right at the front of it it's very accessible to get in and out. Looks like it has a walk up drive thru. Coffee shop vibes with good indoor seating to be able to study or do work or even to Lounge. Their bagels are very tasteful & the açaí bowls are a must. A little pricey and they close early so it's kind of inconvenient. Stuff are kind and patient as we didn't know what to order.“

“A charming little home shop on a charming little island. I'm glad I picked Friday Harbor to eat, because this is probably the best food you'll get out here. There's a nice selection of different bagels, and what I thought was a nice selection of desserts, until my choice took one out of the display! I guess, especially in early April, it's a small crowd on the island so they're more going for locals and Washington weekenders than what summer tourism may bring. Anyway, the prices were really not bad for being so remote, the sandwich was piled up big and tastes nice and fresh, the dessert was also really tasty and clearly fresh made. (I asked, and while they don't bake things themselves, they get them fresh from the mainland and prepare to order, so things aren't frozen or mass-produced. It's all high quality stuff.) Friendly place, rather small especially if there's a crowd, so plan on grabbing food (and coffee, I suppose most people get coffee there) and walking, but there are a few seats there. The cafe is also a little library (books and other trinkets for sale and/or display - I didn't look too hard at them but I was just looking all over the room at the variety). Kinda felt like places I've seen in Vermont. I love little town establishments, and when they deliver on quality as well as a wonderful community vibe, that's 5 stars all the way. Walk on in!“

“I'm already looking forward to returning to try more menu items. The peanut pepper wrap was vegan without any modifications, and they let me leave out certain veggies on request. It was ginormous, delicious and seemed relatively healthy. Can be made gluten free if ordered as a salad, per the staff. The staff was very friendly and the outdoor seating was beautiful, with a large lawn, lots of trees, and a distant ocean view. Nice lunch spot with my dog. Highly recommend!“

“Last year, I had the pleasure of visiting the incredible Orcas Cafe. However, today's review focuses on the present moment. My girlfriend, who is currently in Orcas for business, was having a rough morning. Despite being miles away in Texas, I desperately wanted to be there to comfort her with a hug. So, I called and Ryan, the GM picked up the phone.I inquired if his team could deliver a flower or, at the very least, an oatmeal raisin cookie (a small gesture she would recognize as from me). Ryan went above and beyond, swiftly arranging for the treat to be delivered. When my girlfriend called to express her gratitude, it warmed my heart. Ryan, your assistance meant the world to me. When we next visit, I insist on treating you to a drink or two. Sincerely, a grateful and loyal patron.E“

“Unfortunately just found them this morning before I left. Went this morning and had a Carmel frappe and breakfast sandwiches. The owner and girl working were great. Super fast service and the owner can make anything. Too bad I was leaving and didn’t get to try the Tri tip tomorrow. Great to grab and go if you’re waiting for the ferry. Just a couple blocks away. Love this place a must try“
