“one of my favourite cafes in victoria!!! the food and baked goods are amazing, and I really appreciate having access to so many sweets without dairy (as someone who is lactose intolerant)!!! the staff is super friendly and helpful as well, and I always have a super enjoyable experience when I come here! the chocolate hazelnut cookies are ridiculously good, as well as the muffins, cinnabunnies, and cheesecake! the vegan breakfash sandwich is delicious as well!Dietary restrictions: So many dairy and gluten free options!“
“i’ve been here so many times omg, my #1 go-to place when i want a nice drink other than coffee!! i’m obsessed with the dandelion latte but the chai and seasonal drinks are also good!! i also love the cookies and brownies (i recommend smore & triple choco cookies, and peanut butter & maple marshmallow brownie). food-wise i’ve only tried the jackfruit scrambler so far but i really enjoyed it and hope to try more food items soon!!“
“Had a blast here. The owner was spectacularly passionate about board games and made everything fun. Right now, the prices at Board with Friends TOO cheap, not sure how they stay in business? Hopefully they will raise it later. Take advantage of it while you can!“
“This was a lovely surprise. We were in the area and searched for nearby restaurants. It was our first time having Filipino food, and it was delicious! The staff were welcoming and helpful in explaining the different dishes. We look forward to our next visit.“
“Great food & drinks!! Staff are incredibly kind and friendly. Doug the owner is the BEST! He always goes above and beyond for his customers and truly cares. They always remember your name which I find so sweet! You can tell Doug truly loves and cares about his community. :)“
“A real hidden gem Cafe, among the multitude of other cafes here in Victoria. Superb coffee, great food and cozy atmosphere. If you're visiting Victoria, this place is definitely worth the trek out of the core to make the pilgrimage to!“
“The service was exceptional, with a warm welcome and accommodating staff who provided detailed explanations of each dish, showcasing deep culinary knowledge. The passionfruit soda was delightful, and the prime rib dinner, while good, had slightly tough meat, possibly due to its thicker cut compared to other restaurants. The accompanying roasted vegetables were excellent, but the Yorkshire pudding, although tasty, had a chewy bottom. Their desserts were outstanding; both the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding were generously portioned and perfect for sharing between two people. Overall, I highly recommend this place and look forward to exploring more of their menu offerings in the future.“
“Literal “Hidden Gem”. Tucked away in a deceptive location within the converted motel that is the Portage West Apartments, this is my new favourite cafe in Greater Victoria. Phenomenal baked goods made in-house (I tried the Iluka bun - a modified sweet roll with macadamia and coconut - mmmm), superb coffee, and a bright tropical atmosphere. I’m picky about my pastries/baked goods, and in-house baking is a very good sign, which was definitely borne out by my experience here. Plus the bathroom was amazing. I totally support a place with a bathroom this nice. ?15/10 recommended!“
“Always such a treat coming in and being greeted by the most delightful staff and owner. Baked goods are amazing, quality food and coffee, great vibes and today I left with a delicious birthday cake. Thank you for the incredible vegan goodies!“
“Nice Surprise: the coffee was perfect ( good flavour but excessively thick), their muffin was fresh and delicious and the couple working there were very pleasant. They offered me butter for the muffin and it was warmed up. Perfect coffee spot.Too bad I walked past it many times and never tried their stuff. Muffins, scones, Nanaimo bars, cookies, bagels, sandwiches, etc all looked fresh and tasty.“
“We came on a Sunday at 11:30am and we were the first ones seated. It quickly filled up by 12pm. I got the assorted katsu set ($23) and the buta don set ($23).The assorted katsu set comes with 2 shrimp 2 pork and 2 chicken. The katsu is so light and crispy. Not oily whatsoever. The cabbage comes with the usual sesame sauce which balances off the katsu well. Their side dishes change every day which is nice. Today's side dishes was spinach, dumplings, fried shrimp on veggies. Each set also comes with miso soup and rice. The buta don set was pretty basic. Seasoning wasn't too strong. This is definitely home comfort food. I loved that it came with lots of salad. The meat goes so well with rice.Love their sets as they offer a huge variety of items. Their side dishes are always well thought out and always includes some kind of tempura. We had asked them if they have dessert and they said they had a sesame ice cream dessert which comes with red bean and sesame balls ($8). This dessert is a MUST ORDER if you love sesame. It wasn't overly sweet (except for the red bean but I think that's the offset the slight bitterness of the sesame). I would come back for this dessert alone.Overall I loved the vibe of this little Japanese restaurant/cafe. They don't do they sets to go yet so keep that in mind. I believe they have different things for to go menu. Their service is super friendly and nice. The food also comes out really fast. Would recommend if you are in the are and looking for some home cooked Japanese food“
“Pros: Awesome food that includes doughnuts to actually breakfast and sandwiches, but still a cafe format. Patio and location are both on point. Friendly, attentive staff. Chairs with backsCons: A bit pricey. Seating is better than 90% of the cafes in the downtown but it’s not a spot to post up, if you feel my meaning.Overall: I’m surveying all the cafes in the downtown and this is my favorite spot so far. Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere on the patio. Would absolutely recommend.“
“Had the honey glazed pork bao this morning and wow. I'm so glad I popped in. the pork melted in my mouth, and everything was just perfect. Had to eat it in my car before driving back to Nanaimo, I didn't want to wait haha. thank you for such a good quick bite!“
“Great food and snacks, I’ve been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and haven’t been disappointed. The employees are super friendly and helpful, I definitely recommend this cafe for full meals too.Dietary restrictions: They are willing to leave certain allergens off of a meal if needed, a lot of the food has gluten but not everything.“
“We were looking for a nice lunch spot on our trip to Victoria and came across this place on google, the reviews were great so figured we would give it a try. So glad we did! The great reviews are warranted. We each got a sandwich, the chicken and the pork and we both loved them. I also got a side of soup and the small is perfect size to enjoy and go with your sandwich. We aren’t riders but still thought the theme and decor was super neat. If ever back in Victoria we will definitely be visiting again.“
“We were visiting Victoria and by chance met Fadi- one of the owners who told us about his family’s cafe. We LOVE Lebanese food so decided to check it out for lunch. We had chicken shawarma donairs and tabouleh and loved it. But most of all his family is so kind and warm and the cafe is super cute! Thank you!“
“They used to be on Broadway in Vancouver. I had a flat nearby and used to get roasted coffee from them. Joke(Dutch spelling, pronounced Yo-ka), and her partner ran the place. I tell my friends that their Belgian chocolate was ambrosia. The best I’ve had. Danke Yoka❤️“
“Always welcoming, freindly, witty inclusive humor, laughter and great food. Accessable indoor seating as well as covered outdoor seating.I go often as able to support local good people. Feels like home.Vegetarian options: Specific vegetarian choices also can make some meat options vegetarian.Kid-friendliness: Customers of all ages welcomed. Toys and coloring available. I have also seen them put children's shows on the wall mounted televisionWheelchair accessibility: Indoor eating bathrooms accessable, one step to outside seating.“
“Wandering, looking for breakfast. As we walked toward what we thought we were going to have for breakfast, we passed the Sour Pickle. The smell of breakfast wafting from the restaurant grabbed my sniffer and led us to the front of the store to look at the menu. A Quick Look and we decided to give the pickle a go. Me and the boss decided on the Mexican omelet and a coffee. What a meal. Toast and crisp, delicious hash browns shared the plate with the main attraction, an enormous three egg omelet stuffed with peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and onions topped with cheese and salsa sauce. The boss had me finish her omelet but by God I finished all mine too…. Thankfully we had a walk back to the hotel to work some of that big breakfast off.Prices are in line with every other place here in Victoria, however this is a local, husband and wife team that make awesome food and seem genuinely happy to be serving their brand of home cooking to the people. I wouldn’t hesitate to drop in again when we return and try another menu item, wish we had found you sooner!“
“Visited on a Saturday night. Staff was great to help me reserve for a larger group of 6 people. Our server was lovely and very attentive. We all loved our food, cocktails and some had dessert that was well enjoyed. A tad pricy but I'd say very worth it for a special night out. I had the lamb shank and savoured it and have to say the polenta base that it came on was out of this world...never had anything like that. So good!“
“Super cute family business with friendly service. Although the coffee isn't the best, the breakfast bagels for around 7 CAD are amazing and the homemade banana bread aswell. Everything is very decently priced and tastes amazing. Perfect place for an affordable and quick breakfast! Not the most striking place frome the outside, but definitely more than worth the price!!!“
“Came here for a second time to get “the Canadian” breakfast sandwich and a “chicken pesto” panini. Then a vanilla late and the handsome man behind the counter recommended me the cortado, which was absolutely awesome. All around a great place, one of the best cafes in Victoria.“
“The Hot and Cold Cafe is an absolute delight, especially for those who appreciate lovely soups and great hot drinks. Their selection of soups is heartwarming and flavorful, perfect for any day when you need a little comfort. The hot drinks are equally impressive, with each cup prepared with care and expertise. What adds to the charm of this cafe is the ability to sit outside with your dog in the heart of Cook Street. It's a fantastic spot to enjoy some great food while basking in the vibrant street atmosphere. Plus, it's always a bonus to find a pet-friendly eatery where our furry friends are welcome. The service at The Hot and Cold Cafe deserves a special mention too. The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant and satisfying visit. Whether you're looking for a quick bite, a leisurely meal, or just a great cup of coffee, this cafe ticks all the boxes. Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for a cozy spot with great food and welcoming vibes.“
“We came here with no expectations. The ambience is cute and nice. The lady at the counter is so sweet and polite. She served us with a smile on her face. The food was delicious. I loved the chicken soup which is perfect for a cold mornings. Will visit again for sure.“
“The Nest is a coffee shop that has excellent food choices which are made daily and fresh ?. It caters to folks who bike ? on the Galloping Goose Trail. Excellent sandwiches, baked goods and a variety of delicious drinks.Parking: Enough parking available and bikes also.Wheelchair accessibility: Flat entry-level“
“Wonderful ambience, and our server was fantastic. First time in the rebuilt Oak Bay Beach Hotel and it was gorgeous, upscale but not pretentious.Had the Bianco Verde and Margherita with added arugula. The tomato sauce was flavourful and the outer crust was chewy and nicely done. It got quite soggy quickly so perhaps the thickness under the toppings needs to be dialed in, but will definitely be back!“
“The atmosphere was lovely! I spend my free time visiting cafes in Victoria, and by far Hey Happy is my favourite. I strongly recommend visiting! I got the coconut milk iced latte and the flavours were perfectly balanced making it my new go to drink.“
“Absolutely delicious! We had both savoury and sweet crepes and they were so flavourful. I had an iced coffee and it was made very well. Nice and strong. Highly recommend. The only thing I’d say was that it was extremely hot inside and no blinds. Not sure if the heat is always like that or it was a one off. Still a great experience.“
“I had a delightful experience at de'lish, a cozy café near the ocean at Oak Bay. The charming atmosphere, delicious pastries, and a menu featuring healthy options made it a perfect spot. The table with a fireplace added warmth and a romantic touch to the overall ambiance.“
“I go here at least once a week and the staff are always so friendly, hard working, and thoughtful. Additionally, this is one of the few truly "cosy" coffee shops in Victoria; I feel so many places lean into the minimal aesthetic but not QVs! It's a very relaxing space to sit in and drink tea.“
“I’m originally from the Carolinas and my husband and I have lived in Victoria since 2019. We’ve been walking past Shanzee’s for a while now and decided to have breakfast there this morning. It didn’t disappoint. The biscuits and gravy were just like “home” and my iced oat milk latte was just what I needed. The Blue Grit pancakes were unique and delicious. Thank you for being here! We’ll definitely be back.“
“Most mornings I come here for a latte and pastry, but that’s not the whole reason. The dynamic duo of Dawn and Christina keep me coming. Their glowing personalities and warm welcomes are the best in town. Dawn truly cares about the products she makes and the customers that frequent the cafe.Keep up the great work!“
“I work in the area and whenever I run into Selkirk Cafe for a coffee or treat I’m greeted by the most wonderful staff! Everyone is so kind, even when tackling a long lineup of customers.Drinks are well made, especially the matcha which is hand whisked to order ? The baked goods and breakfast items are high quality as well.“
“What a gem ? Great coffee, chill atmosphere, yummy baked goods. What else do you need in life? The kind of place that brings you smile, forces you to slow down and appreciate the small wonders of life. Thanks folks for being a hidden gem. Take the time to look for it next time your in the Cook Street village neighborhood.“
“It is a bit out of the way, but definitely worth the stop. If you're headed to the ferry or airport, you should take a little detour for a pre-departure meal or snack. Their specialty lattes are great and I'm sure all the other pastries are good. I only ever get the vanilla custard Danish and I'm never disappointed. If you go in the summer they also have in-house refreshers as well which are also very good. If they break into charcuterie it would be a perfect place for me, at least.“
“So lucky to have this amazing little café in our community. The food is always incredible and everything is sourced locally if possible. Shannon takes genuine pride in what she puts in your cup or on your plate, and the conversation is always great. The only down side is it encourages me not to cook breakfast at home because you just can’t knock off those Broken Eggers!Vegetarian options: Great Vegetarian breakfast options.“
“I was just there yesterday with my mom and their new carrot cake loaf with generous cream cheese icing was delightful and the service is always great too!!Vegetarian options: I had a veggie panini and it was alright. Not amazing but just right!Wheelchair accessibility: The bathroom was larger and the entrance was level. The door was not automatic and it was heavy but they would come running to help you open it!!“
“Cute deli-style restaurant with lots of options for a quick work lunch, including a daily feature. Great selection of desserts too, and super nice counter staff. Beautiful outdoor seating area covered in a plant canopy. Loses one star for inconsistency of stuff cooked behind the grill doors, like french fries.“
“who knew it would cost $3.25 - $3.5 for a side of buffalo sauce? Who knew it would cost $3 - $4 to have the fried chicken done Nashville style? A heads up by the server ought to be mandatory. Also, why remove the salmon benny from the menu? it was my go to item.“
“Great coffee ☕, service/atmosphere, and delicious treats! Also, nice patio available ! One of my favorites to stop at before going to work. Highly recommend ?!Shout out to Clay, Amelia, Aleisha, and Angela for runnin' things so smoothly ! & For letting me bring my E-scooter ?!“
“Food is always fantastic and the atmosphere is wonderful. The only problem is it’s nearly impossible to get a table. Every time I go here I have to wait at least an hour and there isn’t a good mechanism to book reservations or be notified once you have a table.“
“To begin with, their coconut chutney is just perfect and tasty. In an island city, far far away from India, this place is just perfect for your South Indian cravings. Pocket friendly and tasty food. Highly recommend their mysore masala dosa and Idlis.“
“This is a wonderful place to go in downtown Victoria. Wonderful sandwiches, soup, breakfasts & many other great items. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming & the service and food is always worth the trip. Will definitely return and I recommend this deli to everyone!✨“
“Ainsley was a great server. I come from years in hospitality and if I ever have standout service, I leave a review. Food was great, everyone in my group enjoyed it. The beef burger was so good (delicious house made bun!) but our service is was stood out to all of us. Thanks for the great experience Ainsley, we will back eventually and asking for you!“
“Very Quaint but awesome coffee shop. Had their tea cardamom latte and it was sooooo good! They even had a GF / Vegan cookie! With my food restrictions I felt so grateful for the variety options they had for drinks. Will be dropping by again!“
“Happily stumbled across this family owned (i assume) coffee shop. They were open Christmas Day and I tried my first baked Filipino deserts. The Ube Roll cake (purple cake) was what the kid at the register suggest I try as my a classic Filipino dish and it was extremely good.Great little shop and atmosphere, plus I love how they have a lot of food options to try and expand on what is normal in a coffee shop here in town.“
“Sunnyside is my go-to breakfast spot. It’s a cozy location. Consistently good food and service. Coffee tastes good. I’ve been to likely half of the breakfast places in Victoria and still while there are some places that may have more selection or variety I prefer and recommend this place for its consistency and tasty all day breakfasts. I typically only get breakfast Eggs Benny breakfasts with drip coffee.“
“Love this place. A wonderful, vibrant, wholesome, all-ages atmosphere. Every time we have gone a member of the staff has assisted us in learning how to play a new board game. This is the place we played our first REALLY (understatement) awesome co-operative board game. Now all we play are co-operative board games.“
“All the details coalesce to create a memorable breakfast - welcoming and attentive staff, varied menu with interesting ideas and classics that are well executed, and a friendly neighborhood vibe. They have several varieties of bennies - nicely done. And if, like me, you prefer your French Toast more saturated to create a slightly more pastry like toast... You'll like Shine's.“
“just stopped by today and had the most scrumptious donuts!!! i am particularly enamoured with the lemon crunch! it tastes a bit like fruit loops to me, in the most mouth watering way! each donut i had was delicious and totally worth making the stop :)“
