“Definitely a MUST TRY for hand roll lovers!!! Everything we tried was SO good! We got the 7 roll set and it was yummy. Also tried their uni handroll, and salmon and toro maki rolls, crispy tuna, garlic edamame, and miso soup and washed it all down with some ube beer. Everything was perfect. The service was also exceptional. Great service from Annie who can sell ice to Eskimos. Really sweet waitress. The hand roll chef was so on top of it like a boss. Handled himself very well while serving a whole bar! Chatted with the manager Kevin for a bit and he was also nice to talk to and shared some good info about all of the sister restaurants in the area. We will be back!“
“AMAZING QUALITY! Hands down the best sushi spot in all of SoCal! Service is top notch and the freshness is unparalleled! I recommend the Snowflake Roll, Yellowtail Belly Carpaccio and the Ryan Hand Roll, you won’t be disappointed.Vegetarian options: Leaf Me Alone roll“
“We waited over 2 hours to be seated on a Friday night but it was well worth the wait. It is honestly the best sushi I've had in awhile and for a price you can't beat. I can see why this place is highly rated on yelp. The quality of the fish was great, the taste was amazing, the service was prompt and friendly. It is great to see such a busy place run smoothly. All I have to say is bring your patience and appetite.Parking: It is located in a busy plaza. You should find parking within the plaza .“
“Great quality of food. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. The handrolls are stuffed with chopped fish cubes rather than ground meat, which I love.Premium handrolls are worth trying. The A5 wagyu beef is so fatty and delicious. Uni is fresh and sweet with no weird taste.I also love that they have a wide selection of sides. And they are all delicious. Strongly recommend the edamame and furikake fries.Service is great except that the server forgot about some of our orders. But it’s understandable, we are party of 8 and ordered a bunch of different rolls not sets. They served the missing rolls right away after we mentioned it. Water is filled in time. Payments were settled smoothly(split b/w 4 cards).Parking is easier and right in front of the restaurant. They have outdoor and indoor seatings, which can accommodate a lot more people than the other locations.Overall a nice experience. Would recommend this place and come back when in the area.“
“OMG! the best of the best. The flavors in the Broth is delicious. Tonkotsu is my favorite. Service can improve a bit, but overall can't expect the best because they are busy- and so worth it. I like the ambiance, chill and they have a good peach beer, ha!“
“Fantastic dining experience, definitely Michelin star worthy. This is a small and in many ways understated restaurant with very limited seating. The experience is intimate and cozy, with the chef preparing and describing each dish. The sushi bar experience is definitely more of a show than the couple of tables they have. There is only one dining option which is a fantastic omakase.“
“I was planning a nice dinner for my boyfriend and my good friend highly recommended Kai wagyu. The store is conveniently located near south coast plaza, so I stopped by after running some errands. The store itself is small, but very nicely setup. The girl who helped me was very knowledgeable and helped me make the best choice for my meal. I went with the A5 Japanese wagyu. She told me how to cook it and even gave me an instruction card so I wouldn't forget later. It turned out perfect. I would definitely recommend“
“My kids and I love Sushi Plus! We found them about 4 years ago, not sure when they had opened but it was a new hidden spot for us, (now I don’t think it’s as hidden, but happy to see them busy). The garlic edamame is ? and all their rolls are delicious. And the staff are awesome, I was in there few days ago picking up an order and it had been awhile since we’ve gone to eat there (had to cut back on spending money on food) but I love that they remember me andand ask about my kids, that just shows howpersonable they are with their customers. (:“
“First time ordering from Sushi Damu. I had the Coconut Shrimp and Aloha Fire. The Aloha Fire was very hot. I love heat but this was a bit much. The Coconut Shrimp was tempura inside of the roll and had great flavor. Everyone I encountered was very friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant was enjoyable. Next time I'll dine in. :)“
“Nice meat quality. Thin cuts. Love their Prime grade beef. Self serve vegetable/seafood island lots of choices. Most important to mention is their meat quality does not downgraded lower after my 2nd or more order. Highly recommend this Shabu-shabu restaurant. Leaving with a very full and satisfied experience.“
“I went here for a business meeting with someone I was meeting for the first time. We both were amazed at the quality of the fish. Just on look alone, it looked like what you would see at a high priced sushi spot. They have 50% nigiri, so salmon is like $3.99 for 2 pieces. Tuna is $4.50 for 2 pieces and the most expensive is Otoro at like $15 for 2 pieces. Typically, a 50% off sushi sign would terrify me, and I would be lying if I said i wasn't skeptical the first time I went here but I assure you, the skepticism will be long gone after you see the sushi hit the table. It tastes incredible and it was so good that after going my first time, I went again 2 more times over the course of the next 2 weeks. This sushi spot is 50 minutes from where u live in Santa Monica and I plan to absolutely return soon. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND“
“I came here yesterday with husband and 2 little ones. No wait time since I reserved table online and they were not full.Staffs deserve 5 stars, very friendly and attentive. They replace the grill and clean up table before we ask them. They also provide little pastic cups for kids to prevent spilling. It would be nice to have plastic forks for kids because the metal forks are too long. Its kidda smokey inside the restaurant, maybe you need stronger venting system. We ordered Kobe set (not AYCE), the meats are very tender but they did not come with veggies, just a few slides of onion/carrot/pumkin. I suggest you provide lettuce in the Set/combo instead of the rice cake/shredded cabbage. The mini side dishes are not impressive, kimchi is very sour, I suggest you to improve quality of your side dishes. The set comes with stir fried noodle or fried rice. Noodles do not taste good. Meat is chewy but fatty, not very good quality. I feel i have korean bbq more than japanese bbq. Dipping sauces are plain, the sour one is too sour and the remaining sauce is too salty, they do not blend well with meats. I will not come back since im not impressed with the food quality. You have the best staffs.“
“CHECK IT OUT! This is NOT just a grab and go place (as some people think). They make sushi FRESH, and you can custom order. Fish is really fresh, good quality, FRESH ginger, pickled wasabi available. Great to grab to go (not reallly a sit down spot, only maybe 4 chairs?), and have some yummy fresh and good quality sushi at home.“
“I have been a regular since this location has opened and it has been nothing but positivity. They just launched a couple new items on the menu that are delicious and you can tell how much Axel cares about the customers, food, and restaurant. I would give 10 stars if I could.“
“Top notch Sushi! I've been coming here since they opened and I'm in love with this place. First, Chef Masa is the nicest most friendly Chef there is, and all his staff are friendly and spot on with water refills and quick service. The fish he gets is some of the freshest and best quality out there. For cooked food Try the salmon collar. It's the melt in your mouth part of the salmons neck and cheek, and prepared expertly! Everything I've had, from the fresh oysters, the halibut carpaccio, the Takowasa, and Takoyaki, they spicy yellow tail lover roll and al the sashimi- has been perfect. Can't recommend enough !“
“This is my family's favorite restaurant. Most of all, the sushi is very fresh, the plating is cool and neat, and the staff is friendly. I have no inconvenience taking my child with me. The rolls I always eat are always fresh, and the yellowtail collar is very delicious. Thank you for letting me have a fun time with my family while eating here. I plan to visit again soon.“
“This place is comparable to flame broiler or waba grill but much better quality and amount of chicken in their bowl. If you're craving a basic chicken teriyaki rice bowl, this hits the spot. Better option than the next door fast food joints by far.Hours vary so check before you go. Seem to serve the business lunch crowd more than anything.“
“One of my favorite sushi to go to! Quality of fish and prices are unbeatable. The place gets quite busy so I recommend be there at least half hour before they open for dinner. Staff are friendly. Love Vincent one of the sushi chefs. I come here at least once or twice a month.“
“The music and environment was chill. My group went on a Wednesday evening so it was not slammed. They have an all you can eat option but my girlfriend and I filled up on the shared ribeye option with spicy miso tonkatsu. It's a pricier option which adds up to about 50 per person including the sake. Our server was Gabby and she was attentive, kind, and knowledgeable about the menu!“
“Best nigiri selection ever! The fish was super fresh and high quality and the service was amazing too. I like blue fin tuna, yellowtail and salmon but never tried seabass in any sushi place before, it was all amazing and we also had oysters and it came with sauce on top already, all top notch and not that expensive if you compare the quality you have. Don't forget to call before you go, there is a lineup most of the time. Wasabi is also pretty tasty and strong not like those imitation ones.“
“The food is quite good and seems really fresh. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The only problem we encountered was getting our mixed vegetables way before our entrees arrived. They would have been much warmer arriving with the main meal. Otherwise, all was good.“
“Prices are very reasonable for such high quality rolls. I was introduced to this place from my aunt and uncle who go regularly and definitely won’t stop going myself.Best Rolls?? drinks? Pretty much everything on their menu. TOP 4 ROLLS HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRYING:1. Chidori Roll2. Spicy dragon Roll3. Ghost Roll4. Rainbow RollGet there early right when they open to claim a table! They fill up quick and so so SO GLAD they do! The more business the better.“
“Tbh I was a bit socked to see the prices but the food was really good. We ordered the less expensive things and the quality of the food impressed us. My favorite thing was the soft crab hand roll, uffff, soooo goood! We ordered sashimi a la carte, one of them was really chewy, they didn’t took it out of the bill but gave us a complementary creamy green tea ice cream. Restrooms, not as clean as I would expected for the place.Make reservations (they don’t take same day reservation, has to be at least the day before)“
“Incredibly fresh fish with generous portions. The classic roles are perfect but even better than those are there unique roles. They balance the flavors really well while also have a nice texture, which is hard to do with sushi!Highly recommend for date night. Also, service was very incredibly good and really fast!!“
“A hidden gem! Brings the politeness of japanese culture to America! You need to be patient when ordering and waiting for the food, as they are often very busy. One item is enough for a person, don’t order too much! (We ended up having to pack half of our food for takeout) and price is very cheap for such fresh fish.“
“Fair price for the quality fish n yakitori. If ordering multiple dishes, ask the service personnel to bring the dishes out in a specific sequence if preferred. Otherwise all the dishes will arrive in random order almost at once. The restaurant has indoor n outdoor seatingParking: Parking validation avail at restaurant“
“First time visiting this indoor eatery food court. Interesting interior design with open-space sitting area in the middle of the court and several Japanese eateries dotted the outside circle. I ate at Gyutan Tsukasa and it had a line, but moved quickly. The grilled beef tongue does not disappoint. Definitely worth a visit.“
“We found this place on a whim after our wait at another sushi restaurant was over 1.5 hrs. We decided to do the omakase. It was the single best sushi experience I've had in my life. Not only was the selection given to us continuously amazing bite after bite, but the service was impeccable. We definitely found a new favorite spot. Treat yourself to a special evening here. They also have a non omakase option if that's not in your budget.“
“I still think about the sushi I had here. In fact I have dreams about it.I was born and raised in Hawaii where fresh seafood was always available and always delicious rarely ever frozen. I’ve also been stationed in Japan for a few years and ate a looot of sushi.Coming back to the states and moving to California, finding good sushi that can compare had been difficult but who knew a place like this was so near to where I lived??Definitely gonna become a regular here!Thank you!“
“Stopped by this beautiful sweet place! They sell all kinds of delicious cheesecakes!!We had ube cheesecake and it was very delicious!! ?I can try it out again when I visit there!! :)Sweetness is perfect ?Come and enjoy your subtle sweetness!Cheers ?“
“Indulging in the flavors of this family-owned Thai gem is an experience you won't soon forget! From the moment you step in, you're greeted with the aroma of freshly prepared dishes. Their commitment to freshness is evident in every bite – whether you're diving into their delectable sushi rolls or savoring the succulent garlic and pepper steak. One of the highlights of dining here is the warm and welcoming atmosphere that comes with a family-owned establishment. You can feel the passion and dedication in every dish, as if each one is crafted with love and care. It's not just a meal; it's a culinary journey that leaves you craving for more.Their sushi selection is truly outstanding, with each roll bursting with flavor and expertly crafted. And when it comes to their garlic and pepper steak, prepare for a symphony of tastes that dance on your palate – tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned.Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, this Thai restaurant never disappoints. So if you're craving fresh, flavorful cuisine served with a side of familial warmth,Kid-friendliness: It’s not the best kid restaurant, but they are very accommodating for kids aswell.“
“It's literally the best bowl I've ever had!I had 2 scoops of protein for $13. good size plate, fresh fish, well cooked rice and friendly service ? sorry for my empty plate photo, it was too good to wait for the pics ?* Docked a star only because of the ventilation. Nothing bad, just smells like the kitchen right upon entering.“
“The sushi here is still really good but the quality in the nigiri and rolls are not the same. I understand the prices rising because the prices have risen everywhere but the portions are extreme small. This used to be my go to spot but now sad to say, not so much.“
“OK I hate to share this with everyone because I love how low-key the spot is. Best sushi in Newport Beach tucked away in a quiet little courtyard with great ambience on the patio. The service is always excellent. My husband who is not a sushi lover is happy to have dinner here, big fan of the Sakana roll, the Olivia roll, and the J roll“
“This restaurant had me hooked at fresh wasabi! In my experience only high end or serious sushi restaurants serve fresh wasabi. I have ordered here via Uber Eats at least 4 times in 3 weeks. The spicy tuna on crispy rice is addictive. Also ordered the 12 pc sashimi and it was fresh and delicious. Will try to eat live at restaurant. Highly recommended.“
“I did take out on a Wednesday night. I called ahead and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later. There were a few people waiting outside which was a good sign that this was a good place to eat. The dining room looked full. My food was ready along with several others in the rack. I can't really say much about the service here as I only did take out. The food however was great! The curry chicken tonkatsu was crispy and big. I liked the pickled radish. The price was good. The cheese tonkatsu was also very good. It tastes really good hot and fresh. Unfortunately since I did take out, it lost its warmth. I would recommend reheating it in an air fryer if you takeout for home. This place is great and I would definitely come back again.“
“This place is hands down AWESOME!The sushi is so delicious, we had the Bangkok, Salmon Lemon, Dragon, Kitajima, Philladelfia and the Alaska roll, all ingredients tasted so fresh. My hubby I are oversized and was very surprised that their sitting was very accommodating for peeps our size and very comfortable. The atmosphere is very chill with dim lighting and quite and the staff are very polite and attentive. We will definitely be coming back to this awesome place.“
“First time to this Japanese restaurant, I have to say, weekdays are the best for dining in with less traffic/crowd.The happy hour specials are great as well if you want alcohol or appetizers. The food was amazing, sushi was on point, the grilled meats were perfect, just the right amount of marination.Dessert with the mochi ice cream topped it off! Both my waitresses Christina and Angie were professional and pleasant from beginning to end. Next time I shall ask them for recommendations for the best dining experience.Overall five stars for the ambience, cleanliness and great customer services. I shall come back!“
“Yoooo this place is the best!!!! they have 2 Locations but this one!!!! Wow. Just amazing!! The Owner is the absolute best! She’s lively and lovely and makes sure you’re having the best experience possible!! I’m making this my new go to sushi spot!! If your searching for a new restaurant definitely try this place asap!“
“A HIDDEN GEM LIKE NO OTHER!!Very reasonable prices, DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC food, FAST service.A complaint i Will address for the owner is about the business and its operation… i have worked in food industry and i frequently travel to find the best food joints.. so i say this as advice more so than complaint.. CUT THE MENU IN HALF. Focus on all the best sold items. Cost of goods is too high today to be offering 50 items on a menu. Sushi IS LITERALLY THE BEST IN TOWN. Focus on that and cater to the newer crowds available in the area. This business is so successful!Vegetarian options: Vegetable yakisoba was super yummy!“
“Everything from the entrance to seating, vibe /music & of course food. Everyone has been so friendly & attentive & the food is fresh, savory & delicious. Feels like we're visiting friends. We'll definitely be coming by more.“
“Great spot! We celebrated a birthday here and it was a blast. Some people wanted to do all you can eat, and some people didn’t and they let us do both. The drinks, the sushi, the service…everything was awesome! Every roll was fresh and delicious.“
“This by far the best Poke bowl restaurant in SoCal! The food is always fresh and the staff is really polite and helpful if you want to try something new. It's always clean and has simple and mellow atmosphere. You won't find a better selection and service any where else!Parking: Underground parking is free when they stamp your ticket. Always space to park.“
“Shabu Shabu is our special date night meal. We like to seak it out wherever we travel to. We really enjoyed our meal here, portions (ordered large meat) were good and ingredients were fresh. This is the first Shabu Shabu I have visited that did not have bok choy and that's my favorite veggie I was disappointed. But they have all the other ingredients, excellent broths and variety of sauces, even egg for dipping. We ate here on a busy Saturday night, it felt like a cafeteria with how the business is run, very efficient but no ambiance for the cost of the meal.“
“Exceptionally excellent. Very impressive dining experience. I’m in town visiting relatives and my cousin has been looking for a place to call his favorite sushi spot - we tried a newer place - which was terrible - they had pictures on the menus, which was the first sign that it wasn’t a serious sushi restaurant. We ordered some maki - tried it - wasn’t good we left. We found Hashigo on google maps. As soon as we sat down at the sushi bar we knew that we came to the right place. Great selection / variety of fish - one easy tell if it’s a good sushi place is if they have either pickled or fresh wasabi. Which Hashigo has pickled. Very fresh fish - we ordered salmon, halibut, mackerel, bluefin, yellow tail … eel, and salmon Kama every bite was amazing - our chef was very personable. Very good knife skills. I’m convinced that a lot of the sushi restaurants in this area have fake reviews or people just don’t have any idea what good sushi tastes like. Eat here and Hashigo will become the place which you will compare the other sushi restaurants around too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ very good overall - this is my cousin’s new favorite sushi spot.Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level - sidewalk ramps“
“Fantastic restaurant. The Orion beer, the white corn, the peanut tofu, and the carpaccio are the highlights. The takoyaki, sukiyaki, and ramen were also great. Lots of new flavors. Very friendly.Dietary restrictions: Okinawan cuisine focuses on pork.Parking: Plenty of parking.Kid-friendliness: It’s a very small restaurant. I wouldn’t bring kids here.“
“Let’s make it simple: we travel from Las Vegas to Newport just for this restaurant. We first stumbled upon this place 4 years ago because it was the only restaurant open at 830 and it is an absolute gem.The food is out of this world and the service is exceptional. They even helped me propose two years at the restaurant and instantly recognized us when we went back this year.“
“This place a hole in a wall guys, lemme put you on seriously from the ambiance to the drinks. The most special is the owner, Goto-san, is super cute and he appeased to my wants and needs. Very friendly spot and fancy club-like vibe WITH karaoke. I must recommend to stop by for a chil drink/ night cap!!“
“We had a late dinner at the bar seats, great food and atmosphere! Although we seated 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, the server and bartender were really friendly and helpful, they made sure that we ordered enough food and checked periodically.“
“We dined in the 1st time - some of the food was great and well priced (spicy tuna rolls $10) but others were a miss; i thought the yuzu sauce on salmon overpowered the delicate salmon flavor. But the food is good, and i did takeaway a few days later. they were great despite the poor presentation.“
