Restaurantji's Half Moon Bay recommendations for the finest Mexican cuisine.
“Family-owned Peruvian Restaurant. We tried the Saltado with Beef Tenderloin and the Beef Empanadas. The Beef Tenderloin is tender and delicious. The empanadas are flaky and filled with seasoned ground beef. Everything is fresh-tasting. My wife and I shared this meal and it was much more than two of us could eat.Parking: The restaurant is on the corner of Falcon Ridge Parkway and Bertha Howe Avenue. Park in the Mohave Dermatology parking area and walk to L.A.M.A. The door to the restaurant is on the Falcon Ridge Parkway side.“
“Stopped by here for lunch and I have to say don't pass this place by!! It's right next to one of those touristy bigger Mexican restaurants but don't go there.. go here!! It looked like it was closed and there wasn't a clear sign when we drove by but it was definitely open. We had the asada taco, grilled fish tacos and the super quesadilla! The tacos were fresh and flavorful and they don't skimp on the servings which is great! The quesadilla is so flavorful. Friendly and fast service too. Highly recommend!“
“Had the California burrito and chips and salsa. Ordering was at the bar and someone brings out your food. Everything was delicious only downside was it was chilly outside and "inside" all the doors were open so it was equally chilly inside.“
“I gotta admit, I only chose this place because it was late and they were nearly the only thing open. But glad I did! Atmosphere is not much to speak of, but the food was excellent with friendly service. Freshly prepared, lean steak, crisp lettuce, chips and salsa gratis. I wish I could come back and try more things when I'm not heading straight to bed.“
“My favorite restaurant for Mexican food in the HMB area. The service is friendly and accommodating with taking your order and prepare the food in a timely manner. The restaurant is small with booth seating and a salsa bar. The menu items are fair priced with generous portions . Highly recommend if you are a local or just driving through area and want quality Mexican food .“
“this is an old school Mexican restaurant of the exact type my parents used to take us to in the 70s. the food is amazing and hearty af, the service is friendly without being overbearing, and the ambiance is...it's obviously an old house that got turned into a restaurant and i have no idea how they make such great food in such a small space but they do it, and they do it well.“
“This is my favorite Mexican restaurant on the coast. The food is always good and served promptly. The service is quick and the restaurant is very clean. They are easy going and have no problem with substitutions either. The burrito, shrimp cocktail, nachos, and quesadilla are all wonderful and highly recommended“
“Update - new vegan empanadas are great! They are filled with mushroom and vegan feta, very filling and tasty. They have always had vegan options since they opened, delicious plantains rice and beans. It's a local small business with an owner who cares. They added vegan meats now as an option which was something I've been asking for. Updated from previous review on 2023-01-24“
“The food is not only amazing and delicious but beautifully presented. Gabriel and Daniel are very nice and accommodating. We went there yesterday after a memorial for my brother in-law. This is a must try restaurant you won't be disappointed. Thank you so much for being so cheerful and making delicious food. I wish they had this place back in the day when I used to play and coach soccer at Murray field.“
“I'm a loyal customer of the Zumix juice truck on El Camino and by random chance I decided to walk over to Jovanni's taco truck (parked right next to each other). I started off light with the first visit and ordered a plain carne asada taco with no salsa or fixings. I personally always want to see if an establishment has good meat and a tortilla for a foundation. My next visit I ventured to the Carne Asada Super Taco and I fell in love. The flavors from the salsa and meat are perfectly balanced, the perfectly grilled tortilla has a bit of a nice char to it and lastly the cheese melt on the tortilla isn't overwhelming. I also enjoy the fresh cucumbers they serve with it and the grilled onions on the side. I come here 1-2 times a week now it's just absolutely worth your time to stop and grab a bite.“
“This is my favorite Taco Bell I've been to. They had the best customer service. I've ever experienced, especially with my elderly father. Patient kind very helpful in the food was fantastic. I had the chicken Powerball. They also sell margaritas in beer in all kinds of sweaters and “
“Omg are you kidding me? Wow I walked in and I'm astonished the food is not dried up Rice. The food is such great quality. I am so fortunate. I live in San Mateo where I can actually how to go to Whole Foods and get a stupid plate like spend like 75 bucks on a meal for myself. This is the most fabulous pies you don't even know how fortunate you are to live in San Mateo county but I'm letting you know this please I swear to God you're gonna love it. By the way, best mannerism after Covid people are not nice. When you go to restaurants, they act like they do you a favor. These people are amazing. I'm astonished I'm sucked into this joint. You guys can take it or leave it.!!!“
“I had 2 chicken enchilada with refried beans and a salad. It was just the way I like it.Then you help yourself to the salsa bar for added condiments and chips. Also they serve a little sour cream if you ate something a little more spicy to cool your mouth. At least for me that works.“
“The food is good. Service too but is not a full service to your table. So, if you expect enjoy a coffee and refilled at your table is not going to happen. Because you order at front , pay and pick up your food at the front as well.Food is delicious and the portions are descent for the price. They sell chapulines too.Note: no parkin.“
“The place is small, but the food is decent. I purchased one wet burrito and 2 super burritos. The super burritos suppsed to come with cheese and everything, but it didn't have any cheese in it. Nonetheless, the wet burrito is quite tasty.“
“Literally a HOLE in the wall spot lol. Service was quick and easy, wait times were reasonable and there is a lot of parking. Because they only do takeout, it's easy to pop in and out. The Beef Birria was so good; full of flavor and meaty. The taco was thick and cheesy. So glad we found this! I highly recommend this place!“
“Food was great. Filled with fantastic flavors. The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.Vegetarian options: Many great options to choose from. From a burrito, enchiladas, or the bowls.Kid-friendliness: Has many great food for kids. The quesadilla was great as well a the enchiladas.“
“The food is delicious- consistently. It is a bit of a hole in the wall , but again delicious food. My only gripe is the consistency with the cashiers. One time in particular, one of the brothers was training a new girl and she didn’t ring in one taco i ordered. Once my food arrived and I noticed , the brother said I wasn’t charged and when I went to pay with my card he enforced the minimum card purchase rule. This was extremely annoying because 1. This was the their error 2. I’m a regular. He should have either made an exception or given me the taco at no charge . Instead I got no taco . This made me not go back for over a year. This lack of customer service could really detour business. I have not had an issue since starting back and the food is just delicious“
“Pretty good food. Burritos can be hit or miss, though. Sometimes there is just way too much rice in them, making the burritos a little bland. Overall though the meats are flavorful. It didn’t used to say on the menu (they’ve updated it since), but you can order regular taqueria meats like al pastor, carne asada, carnitas, cabeza, etc. in your tacos and burritos, not just chivo and res.Parking: Parking in a plaza“
“When you see there is always a line of Mexican people waiting for food, you know you should check out the place. I usually get their lengua tacos, and I recently tried their California burrito, I really like the crunchy fries in it my only complaint was the portion of carne asada in it, a little stingy in my opinion. I think I will stick to their tacos in the future“
“Really liked my tacos!! Tortillas tasted soft and fresh, and the portions were great. I only saw 2 really young people working when I went(made me nervous) but I received quality service and food nonetheless :) I recommend the happy hour special . If you want spicy sauce just ask for hot, the medium had no spice for me“
“Andy's is a solid neighborhood taco truck serving up tasty eats with friendly service. They are usually open for lunch Mon-Sat from 11am-4pm. I stopped by last Thursday and ordered at the window: 3 tacos and 1 vampiro taco with both carne asada and al pastor meats. I preferred the tacos between the two, both meats were tasty, toppings were fresh, and salsa had a nice spicy kick. My plate came with some caramelized onions, radish, chips and salsa (green and red). Service was great, everything is made to order and came out fast. Great spot for a quick lunch.“
“I love this taco truck. I get the quesabirria tacos de res (beef). Everything is so flavorful and delicious. I can't get anything else like it in the area. I'm always craving it! So glad they brought quesabirria to san mateo. The workers are very nice too.“
“The only thing I could say is good tacos with affordable price. The owner made everything alone, so service might be slow if there are many people. There’s a couple of people before us so we had to wait. It was fine since we would chitchat while waiting.Fresh tacos, handmade tortillas. The flavor was a little light. After squeezing the lemon juice in one, all I could taste was the sourness, so I left the other tacos without lemon. Also, cash only food truck, so be sure to carry cash with you when ordering here.Parking: It’s a street food truck, so you have to find a parking lot yourself.“
“Ordered a super burrito with no beans, received a regular by mistake on a take out order. Chips and salsa included, which were great, green salsa especially. Burrito was large size, but with only meat and rice inside did not satisfy. They do not offer a breakfast burrito anymore and said they were out of eggs. I would give them another chance but would eat there to ensure my order was right, and get more chips and salsa!“
“This place is a hidden gem. The tacos Dorados are some of the best shrimp tacos you'll find! After frequenting the San Bruno location I was pumped to see they added another truck close to me in downtown San Mateo. Fast and friendly service too!“
“Ok, maybe not a 5 star restaurant, but the best places to eat are always the small ones that are "muy auténtico". Charlie's Tacos always serves a burrito filled with robust and varied flavors and textures. The only fault may be they're too big to consume at a single sitting.A big plus is serving the best (and only, to my taste) habanero salsa, El Yucateco Green.“
“The chain on the gate broke. I called them, and they solved the problem within 2 hours; I took two quotes, and theirs was better. Now, the work was professional. I will recommend you. Thank you.Service: General repairs & maintenance“
“Excellent and affordable tacos in downtown Burlingame.Quality: 5Value: 5Service: 4Ambience: N.A.They have $2-3 tacos that are AWESOME. Every flavor we got was great except the chicken. Good carne asada, good al pastor, and they have cabesa most days, too. It's hard to complain at this price!Yes, they only speak Spanish, and yes, the parking lot is only for the mechanic shop (and the mechanic will shoo you out if you try to park there). But for just picking up amazing tacos at amazing prices, who cares about ambience? Our new go to spot to avoid the bougie nonsense of Burlingame avenue.“
“Amazing tacos for a reasonable price! The truck was on the El Camino in front of Safeway. Red truck with some chairs in front. I had two tacos, carne asada (steak) and el pastor (marinated pork). If you order with everything it comes with seasoned onions, carrots on the side, and fresh onions and cilantro on the tacos. You can get green or red sauce on the side. Overall it's a great street taco. One of the best I've had in the area. Worth a try“
“I was in love with the first bite. Their Birria tacos will keep me coming back. It was so flavorful. The people are friendly. They explained the food and made great recommendations. The place is clean. 3 on the atmosphere only because it's not a linen type of restaurant. I would recommend going to my friend because yummy.“
“I had the pork cochinita pibil burrito and it was delicious! It was not overpowered by the typical sour cream, lettuce or cheese. The chicken adobo was exquisite! The chicken was so flavorful, tender and juicy! We will definitely come back to try other dishes. Thanks Chef Arturo for introducing us to Mayan/Yukatan cuisine!“
